"As always, our recent visit to the Chart House was perfect. We were there on Mother's Day, which must be one of their busiest days of the year. Even so, the service and food flawlessly met the restaurant's high standards. By no means did we feel rushed at any time. And the parking attendant's presenting my wife a fresh carnation when he brought our car around was a nice touch. We look forward to our next dining experience at the Chart House."

"Our reservation was for 10 AM and we arrived about 15 minutes early. We were told they were runing about 10 minutes behind. We were finally seated at 10:40. It was 11 o'clock before a server asked what we would like to drink.
Also the menu they were serving was different than the one presented online at the time we made the reservation. The online menu was for a buffet brunch, the menu they were serving was a very short brakfast menu. The omlette i had was small."

"We've been going to this Chart House for years. My group for Mothers Day kept increasing and the Chart House was having a hard time allowing a couple of extra people. I agreed to the loft room above the main dining room. Well, no view of the ocean from here. A litte frustrating. Maybe when doing the relations for holidays, Chart House could leave a couple of tables open for emergency add ons. I am sure there would be walk-ins to fill the table on a holiday night. So it was a little disappointing that our out of town guests couldn't enjoy the ocean view, but the service was exceptional. And I was glad we were able to be accommodated when we added a couple of extra people."

"Overall it was a fair experience but for the price, I could have gone to Del Mar at Jakes or Poseidon and had better ambiance, outside dining and overall service for much less. Service from kitchen was slow..... Did not like the floors being hand vacuumed next to my table during my meal. Was Mother's Day but was not packed. No reason for the slow delivery.
Valet, hostess and wait staff were good. Seafood was fresh, firm and nicely seasoned and well portioned. Charged extra for switching from mashed potatoes to a baked potato due to garlic. Presentation on one dish was 1 piece of fish, 1 baked potato and some sauce sitting like 3 little islands on a plain plate. Looked like a hospital offering sans the jello."

"Went for dinner on Mother's Day. Waited 50 minutes for our table beyond reservation time, all staff was frazzled and overwhelmed, did not get water for 20 minutes, did not get any bread for 30 minutes, did not get dinner for over an hour after being seated, asked for items multiple times...some came others did not. Most of the ffod was good once it arrived but everything was not hot. Did not have dessert because we had already been there for 2+ hours and it was getting too late. Bad, bad, bad restaurant management. Completely overbooked on a special day. I expected more from the Chart House and more for my $335! The location is beautiful but when there is trash on the floor and no service the ambience is not recognizable."

"I had planed to take my mother there 4 mother's day,(i had not spent Mothers Day with her in15 yrs, (she lives abroad) the service was terrible! the waitress got my mothers salmon mixed up with my sons salmon and hers was medium cooked (they ordered salmon but different,) she did not say anything to be polite! my son did not say anything to be polite, I noticed my sons salmon well cooked and that's how I knew, the waitress never came by to ask about how our lunch was!"

"Taking all things into consideration being Mother's Day, our overall dining experience was very good. The restaurant was packed but our reservation was honored. Our only concern was being a party of two on Mother's Day, we were somewhat lost in the shuffle. Our small table was overlooked by the waiter assigned. We found out later that he was new to the restaurant and was still in the "learning mode". Other than the delay in being served, the food was great, the view wonderful and the staff was very courteous. WE enjoyed our dinner and do plan to return."

"I made 9:45 AM reservations for the Chart House on Mother's Day. Prior to Mother's Day, the restaurant called to confirm the reservation and the time. We arrived at 9:40 and they informed us they were running behind. Nearly 30 minutes later, we were seated (after asking why others were being seated that arrived after our party). That was not a good start. Also, the food was just so-so. I'm no chef, but I could have easily re-created the shrimp omelet (using the same small frozen shrimp) and French toast. All-in-all, the experience was less than enjoyable."

"The Chart House, in Cardiff by the Sea, is a delightful experience. We seem to think of the Chart House mostly for special occasions because it just feels like a special place, but it shouldn't be restricted to just those times. Our most recent visit was Mothers Day, the first or second busiest day of the year for restaurants. From valet parking to the entire restaurant staff, we never felt rushed, the food was prepared exactly as ordered and the service was perfection."

"We were celebrating Mothers Day a day early, Saturday May 11th, for my mother and the Chart House. I t was a good choice. The view is absolutely amazing, on the ocean of Cardiff by the Sea. It was a warm clear day, the beach was calm and the view was amazing. I enjoyed my salad, I had a Chopped Salad and ordered steamed veggies. My son wasn't impressed with the Fish Tacos too much. My mother loved the Lobster Grilled Cheese sandwich. My daughter must have liked the Coconut Crunchy Shrimp, she didn't complain and ate the all the them. Our other two guests ordered the Clam Chowder. Both commented that it was one of the best chowders they had eaten in a long time. Our waiter was attentive, friendly and she did a fantastic job."

"Went to Chart House for our second time in a few months for my wife's birthday. First of all we couln't park in valet for almost 20 minutes as they were woefully understaffed. Then things got worse. Appetizers and drinks were very slow to arrive and from our perch on the north side of the restaurant we could view the cooks station not producing much food. So much so that the proprietor or matre'd was timing dishes for awhile. Our waiter, Dave, was fine and informative but constantly apologizing for the wait. When my wife's surf and turf arrived it was over cooked with little finesse. Same with my mixed grill. Too bad; such a beautiful spot. Hopefully this was just a bad night .."

"The Chart House in Cardiff has been on a slow decline regarding the quality of serivce and the general meaning of customer service over the last 10 years. The table staff are great, the problems seem to be more with the management of the staff and the lack of organization. Each dinning experience with them has gotten worse and my wife and I joke about what is next. On our most recent experience, we did not even make it to the table due to the 30 minute delay on being seatted regardless of having a reservation at 6:15.
Due to this last none-experience, we are done with the Chart House."

"I've dined at multiple Chart House locations and unfortunately the Cardiff location is by far the worst. We had to wait to be seated even though we had a reservation which in itself wasn't a big deal since we went to bar for a drink. Once we were seated, it took another 15 minutes for our waitress to get our drink orders. We decided to order the appetizers along with the main course thinking this would expedite the service. Ordered the fried calamari and half of the plate were fillers of miscellanous fried vegetables. My dinner looked like it sat under the heat lamp too long. The 3 scallops on my plate were the size of a quarter and the short ribs were dry. Dissappointly...I am not impressed and not likely to return."

"We use the Charthouse in Cardiff with family and friends on a regular basis and the food and service are usually excellent. However, on Tuesday, 29 April my wife and I invited friends to join us for lunch the food was excellent but the service can only be described as a disaster. The food took a very long time to arrive to the extent that the waiter apologized several times. The final blow was that a special desert we ordered at the time of giving our lunch order failed to materialize. When I questioned the waiter he said that he had forgotten to give the Chef the order."

"Why would this restaurant have a whole section of empty tables and make us wait when we had a reservation. Not impressed at all. Food was excellent but the service was terrible. And no one ever sat at any of these empty tables during the entire evening. And any folks arriving with no reservation were told it was a 45 to one hour wait. Many turned around and left yet there were all those empty tables."

"I don't see what the point is to make a reservation ahead of time when they made us wait another hour before they had a table for us. I was very diappointed after communicating to them that it was a special occasion for us to keep us waiting that long. Also the food servise was very slow compared to other restaurants. The quality of food and wine was good but very slow for a pricy place like this."

"We were a group of 4 celebrating my birthday. We told the waitress that we were here to celebrate my birthday. We had drinks and ate a full dinner. We spent over $200 on food and drinks. When we ordered 2 desserts, the waitress brought the one I ordered with a candle. We were charged for the birthday dessert. I think it is cheap not to give a free dessert when a group has chosen to celebrate a special occasion at your restaurant. It would have been a $6.00 gift to us and a good PR trick, not a cheap trick. Too bad. We were disappointed."

"I picked this restaurant because I had previously dined at the Chart House in Redondo Beach. That experience was great and this one in Cardiff was equally great. "The food was sub-par at best. The dinner was not worth the long food to the table wait after ordering. The food service was very slow. The prices were very steep considering I received 4 sallops of a small size upon ordering scallops. The ocean view is the only thing that never changes it is great. Years ago the Chart House was a place to go. Now, it is a place to stay away from."

"We are locals and the Chart House Restaurant is an easy go-to place for any special occasion or for date night. We ate there on Easter and even though it was pretty busy,we did not feel rushed or that other diners were encroaching on our space. It was the most beautiful San Diego day and it's what makes us happy to be locals. My fish dish was perfection. I can't tell you how many restaurants that specialize in seafood can still manage to mess up a fish dish."

"We were expecting a Sunday brunch menu and were disappointed to be offered only a dinner menu. However, the food was delicious and we were thus happy. Not being able to obtain a window table was also not good, but the view was nice from our table. The service was excellent and overcame our disappointment in not getting an omelet.

"I made a reservation for Easter Brunch at 11 am. There was neither a brunch or lunch menu offered, only the dinner menu. At no time was it mentioned when calling the restaurant prior to our reservation and when I confirmed the reservation that Sunday brunch was not available on SUNDAY, EASTER SUNDAY!!! It was also not mentioned anywhere on their website. This is completely unacceptable. I even printed the menus for my party. We have been to Chart House many times and have always enjoyed the food and ambiance. That is precisely why I made reservations for my family and friends on Easter. We informed the manager and left. This is a bait and switch situation, especially because I had an e-mail invitation from Chart House for Easter!"
