Restaurant Reviews for Mio Restaurant

Mio Restaurant reservations Mio Restaurant

1110 Vermont Avenue, NW
Suite1
Washington, DC 20005

Located just south of Thomas Circle in downtown Washington, DC, proprietor Manuel Iguina takes back to his Latin roots with seasonal urban Latin American cuisine found in large metropolises such as Lima, Ciudad México, San Juan, Buenos Aires and São Paulo. Always focusing on fresh, local products, Mio also features Modern American selections in a convivial atmosphere where customers are treated with genuine affection. Since opening in 2007, a number of great chefs drove Mio towards avant garde, four-star dining, leading to our maturation as a showcase for refined Urban Latin American cuisine. Signature dishes such as Bacalaito Coated Shrimp Salad, Oxtail Mofongo or Mahi Mahi with Chorizo Sauce and Escabeche de Vegetales, represent our open hearted attitude to delivering a fun experience with care and attention to unpretentious refinement. Mio’s recognized internal architecture is commented for its accessible elegance and clean lines and spacial freshness.

Review 2 for Mio Restaurant

Overall Rating 4.0 out of 5 (Very Good)
"I had never dined at Mio but it was close to an office where we had a meeting. The menu was very appealing. Each person in our party of 5 was very impressed and enjoyed their lunch very much. Both the butternut squash soup and tempura shrimp, avocado and tomato salad was excellent. The bread was delicious, warm, crusty and impossible to resist.

I will definitely return. ~P

Review 4 for Mio Restaurant

Overall Rating 2.0 out of 5 (Fair)
"I went to Mio with 3 of my girlfriends. Unfortunately the food was not good for me and one of my friends. We both ordered the Trout and it didn’t have any flavor. It was very bland. We absolutely hated the dish. Another one of my friends ordered the Asopao but she complained that it didn’t have enough rice like a true Asopao should and the portion was very small. She was still hungry after finishing the dish. We ordered chocolate cake and it was dry and not that exciting. The bill was $200 for 4 people and we didn’t even ordered alcohol. I don’t mind paying a high price if the meal is outstanding. The manager was nice, attentive and friendly. I am not interested in returning unless they change the chef."

Review 5 for Mio Restaurant

Overall Rating 2.0 out of 5 (Fair)
"The service was wonderful and the decor is very attractive. The food was nicely plated, of good quality, wonderful textures, cooked properly . . . but SO bland. I had prix fixe lunch and chose the yuca soup, the salmon on quinoa and the coconut flan. Just lacking in flavor."

Review 7 for Mio Restaurant

Overall Rating 4.0 out of 5 (Very Good)
"We've settled on Mio as a good "go to" for business lunch in my office. The restaurant is very open and feels comfortable and not stuffy. We like the latin slant it has taken and the larger portions it now serves. I had a pork chop roasted with bay leaves with rice and pigeon peas that was very satisfying and savory, and a Spanish white wine that was a good pairing. They could do a better job of suggesting these pairings in their menu. I think they are missing a good opp. Our group is a mixed traveling variety and we meet in D.C.once a month. We agree this place has the feel of a modern and elegant Miami Latin restaurant."

"One of the best-kept neighborhood secrets for dinner. It is hard to choose just one item from the menu. Don't forget the specials--there has been at least one tempting special for each of our visits. The beef tenderloin was also fabulous - tasty and melt-in-your-mouth tender."

Review 14 for Mio Restaurant

Overall Rating 1.0 out of 5 (Poor)
"Mio was a complete disappointment. The portions were tiny and the food was substandard. The "entree" seafood stew consisted of 3 shrimp, 2 pieces of undistinguishable fish, and one scallop. The risotto was greasy and had very little flavor. I was charged for an appetizer that I did not order, and when the server tried to fix the mistake, he charged my credit card again. Then when I called the restaurant to have the mistake resolved, they accidentally charged me a third time! Overall, I paid nearly $300 for a bad meal and they still have not resolved the issue. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY AT MIO!!!"

Review 15 for Mio Restaurant

"Mio was a great place, with amazing service and food. Try bakes eggplant tarrine and chicharonnes calamari for appetizer- delicious. Rockfish with seafood dumplings and salsa on top was tender, juicy and plentiful, so I took some back home. Also, have mago mousse, tropically amazing."

Review 22 for Mio Restaurant

Overall Rating 5.0 out of 5 (Outstanding)
"What a pleasant surprise. They had a Puerto Rican menu on Friday in addition to the regular one and we tried the roasted pig tapa. Wow. I had an octopus with a chickpea puree. Very nicely done and soft. A home made pate was very tasty and paired with a candied papaya. Unusual but delicious. My husband ordered guava glazed hen served with Cuban rice and was very tasty. I recommend the shrimp with codfish tempura. I could have had three more of this and skip the dinner. A bit noisy, especially with a high energy happy hour crowd but very friendly staff."

"I was able to get a reservation on a Saturday night a few hours before dinner. Puzzled on how this was possible was revealed with the dinner meal. Review 24 for Mio Restaurant

Overall Rating 3.0 out of 5 (Good)
"Unfortunately, there was large group fund raiser at the bar the evening we went. It was beyond loud. The manager was apologetic and assumed us that the crowd would depart by 8:00. We left at 9, and they were still going full blast. The menu is interesting, the food was good, the staff was very nice, but the noise really did spoil the evening. We had to yell to hear each other (which probably made it louder). They should tell you when you make a reservation so you can decide if you want to subject yourself to something like that."

"Felt like trying a new place in the neighborhood and glad we picked Mio. We will go back again. I had the crab cake appetizer and the Mahi Mahi dinner and could not have been more pleased. When the wine we selected was out of stock it was upgraded to a more expensive choice at no extra cost - very pleasant surprise. The server was very helpful and was able to answer all our questions and make great recommendations. The interior decor is also very attractive."

Review 27 for Mio Restaurant

Overall Rating 2.0 out of 5 (Fair)
"I tried Mio for restaurant week and was disappointed. I don't think the restaurant week menu encompassed the best dishes. The tuna appetizer was overshadowed by an abundance of soy sauce. The shrimp app was tasty, but the avocado salad that accompanied the shrimp was mostly cucumber. The goat and the hen were under seasoned. The vegetarian risotto was good, but could have used a bit more salt. I'm not a flan fan, but my friends thought it was pretty good. The Moose Lucerma tasted like a stick of butter, not necessarily a bad thing, but not for me.. The bread was delicious as were the margaritas!"

Review 28 for Mio Restaurant

Overall Rating 2.0 out of 5 (Fair)
"I found the resturant week menu fairly limited. There were only 3 choices for appetizers, and only two for dessert. I ordered Rock Fish that did not seem like it was described in the menu - it was more like a bland fish soup. My flan dessert had a somewhat unpleasant, sour taste. My husband did not like his oxtail appetizer and thought the cornish hen was only fair. We will not go back. VERY noisy."

Review 30 for Mio Restaurant

Overall Rating 4.0 out of 5 (Very Good)
"Great atmophere, especially on a Friday night- Was very vibrant and fun with salsa dancing later in the night. Only problem was poor accoustics, and we were seated at a table a bit too large for our group of four so casual conversation was difficult because of the noise, esp once the dancing began. Our server was attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable for those of us unfamiliar with the Latin Cusine, and Tuna tartare was excellent!"

"Food was excellent, as usual, as was the service. Unfortunately, there was a fundraiser or some other party and the management allowed the organizers to use a very loud microphone."

Review 40 for Mio Restaurant

Overall Rating 3.0 out of 5 (Good)
"The food was wonderful. The service was extremely slow -- very slow to provide menus, very slow to take orders, but very quick to produce the check when asked. There were very few tables in use in the restaurant that day for lunch. Food was great."

Review 42 for Mio Restaurant

Overall Rating 4.0 out of 5 (Very Good)
"You can't ask for anything more: the owner's gracious wife greeting us and becoming an instant friend; the waitress remembering me from my previous visit and my love of fine aged dark rums, the owner's personal mission to make certain I tasted his best rum. No better way to impress my out-of-town guests. When we arrived, there was a fundraiser taking place in the upper portion of the restaurant, which made the place noisier than usual. We were led to a table in the center of the restaurant but my request for a table in a side, quieter room was quickly and graciously accommodated. Oh, and the food was excellent, as always."
