Town
"Local first, organic whenever possible, and with Aloha always" is the mantra upon which this unpretentious neighborhood bistro was founded. With a menu that changes daily to reflect the freshest market ingredients, Town features hand-cut pastas and gnocchi, slow-braised meats, fresh local seafood, a wine list of small artisan producers, and hand-crafted cocktails. Drawing inspiration from classic recipes of the Mediterranean, Town's cuisine is best described as Contemporary American with an Italian sensibility, where the ingredients are allowed to shine and nothing is wasted.
With bar and "dog-friendly" patio seating reserved for walk-in guests, the restaurant has become a favorite for casual impromptu dining as well as for special occasions. Town is located in hip Kaimuki, just minutes from Waikiki, and is loved by locals and visitors alike. Go to Town.

"Kaimuki is all about Town. Hangout for the hip. Magnet for the foodie. Neighbor spot with affordable prices. Menu that's never dull. While we were promptly seated with menus, bread and water delivered for our 5:45 p.m. reservation, the entrees seemed to be on slow boat from another island... a 25-minute wait for the three of us. We saw three chicken orders pass by; and several surrounding tables filled after our arrival had their choices delivered with better pacing. Was just about to inquire with the wait help, when the ship arrived. Off night? Hopefully. A disappointment this time; we felt extremely neglected (and hungry). Good thing we had nowhere to go afterwards."

"The flavors of the food was outstanding. We started with the Mai Thyme cocktail, which we weren't sure we were going to like, but we loved it! The thyme really made it unique and refreshing. We had the fresh mozarella with watercress, caramelized figs, and bacon from the pig jowls as an appetizer. The blend of the flavors was delicious. For dinner we had the hand cut mint pasta with lamb ragu. Everything was so fresh and flavorful and the service was excellent! We will definitely come here again!"

"Tucked behind a lot of greenery, our cab driver almost missed it. Wonderful food, interesting menu, using local ingredients where possible. Tombo was great as was the monchong and the steak. Good wine list. Cool cocktails with herbal combos that were really good. Roasted pineapple and cake dessert was heavenly! Very busy. You must make reservations!"

"Friday night dinner, so the place was very busy. Everyone on the wait staff was friendly and capable. Our appetizers came quickly and it's yummy. The bean soup was exceptional. We did wait quite a bit for our entree, maybe 30 minutes or so, and I noticed the tables around us did not get their's either. Problem in the kitchen? Hence only 4 stars for service. Our waitress did come by and apologize for the delay. The gnocchi was good, so was the fish. The chicken was a bit charred and dry - again hence the 4 stars. The price is very reasonable for the quality of the food, we will return."

"I went here with my boyfriend on a weeknight on a 5:30pm reservation. We ordered 2 dishes, but I only remeber the lamb pasta with homemade noodles because it was so good! The lamb was tender and the noodles fresh. I normally do not like lamb, so this was unexpected. We ordered some other meat (turkey?) dish that came with a side of cooked kale and swiss chard, as well as a serving of polenta. The cooked greens were the best thing on that dish. Next for dessert we ordered a mango sorbet and vanilla bean gelato. The sorbet tasted like they just froze and blended ripe fresh mango--not icy as expected :) But the gelato was dissapointing...it was just like eating store-bought ice cream. Over all great experience with friendly servers."

"Truly fine food in a welcoming environment - we love this place. It's one of the few worth the effort to get out to dinner for well crafted cuisine that one would expect in Portland, Seattle or SF, and using lots of local ingredients. It's not your typical 'local' place - portions are ample but not gigantic - so you'll be disappointed if you're expecting typical 'local bargain' quantity over quality. Our hosts, waiter and servers were all so friendly and helpful. Clientele is mostly younger locals and hybrids (part time mainland/islands) and NOT tourists. A few families with kids/babes. Everyone's having a good time. We always eat here at least once when we're back (local born, mainland-residents)."

"Enjoyed our first dinner at Town. Prices and portions age good and reasonable considering the quality of the food. Had the clams and strip loinas well as some decent wine. The clam broth was outstanding. One of the tastier broths I have ever had. The strip loin was cooked perfectly with a nice light sauce on it. My wife had the arugula salad and pa'i'ai. "I have been wanting to try Town for a couple of years, but the parking is not ideal and it's closed Sundays which also contributed to the delay. But, it was well worth the wait. Menu = very creative with organic and farm-to-table choices. Also feature a nice selection of French wines (which I love). Ordered the ahi tartare appetizer (so good, we ordered a second one!), roast chicken & strip loin entrees, tomato bisque and a salad. Almost everything was delicious, cooked to perfection and presented nicely; bisque was just average, but the ahi was outstanding, so there's the trade-off. Also, it can get very loud as the night goes on, so not the best location for quiet dinner conversation. Highly recommend & will go again."

"One of my favorite restaurants. Love asking for recommendations and the excitement on the server's face in giving them. Priceless. We ordered the pan roasted chicken and I had the pork gnocchi... Mmm, was I in heaven. I live how the menu changes, just right amount if items on the menu, and keeps it exciting to see about the next time. Second time to Town in one week... What a record! It's open air ambience with the small town scene, make it the perfect place to visit with long time friends. I even saw one of my super good friends celebrating her birthday (Town is her favorite restaurant too). That's when you know it's good if you keep on running into friends there! Too legit."

"We're so lucky to live within walking distance of Town. This is one of the best restaurants in Hawaii, or anywhere for that matter. The creativity of the chef makes every dish I've eaten here a flavor powerhouse. The wait staff is knowledgeable and friendly and the minimalist decor is perfectly matched to the maximalist flavors of the food. I eat at other places, but always come back to Town as my first-choice for lunch with friends and colleagues and dinner with friends and family."

"The food was excellent! The manila clams in broth appetizer was so good! Followed by the hand cut pasta with Hamakua mushrooms--that was really good! My steak was also good although I could have used a little shoyu on the side...but what surprised me was how delicious the french fries were!
The place was packed, after 8 p.m. on a Wednesday night! It was our first time there for dinner. If only the noise level could somehow be toned down we would go again, but we prefer a little more quieter setting when we eat out.
Price-wise, we thought it was a bit pricey considering the neighborhood--Kaimuki. But it's great that there is ample free parking in the back.

"I showed up way late after rental car woes and they'd saved my table, so already I liked them, and then I had one tremendously inventive dish -- a taro griddle cake recommended to me by a local congresswoman I was interviewing: deelish! -- and one extremely good fish dish (monchong with multicolored spuds and baby bok choy) that felt less original but was very nicely done. If it hadn't been so late, I would've tried the three kinds of lamb, which looked great as it passed me by, and had a little more imagination and local eccentricity to it. All in all, a very happy place to go, with extraordinarily friendly service, and food that would be reckoned good anywhere. I'd go back anytime I was in HNL."

"Once again we enjoyed our meal at town. Happy to be seated outside, due to previous experiences inside that were too cold and too loud (poor acoustics in main dining room)food was delicious, service was kinda slow but we were having a good time with our party so it didn't matter too much. It was Friday 6-8 and quite packed. I always want to go on Sunday, unfortunately the restaurant is closed that day."

"Food is very good, but over the past year, their service is getting slower and slower. Was less than half full when we arrived at 6:00 and it took 45 min for food to arrive. Husband ordered second glass of wine when food was served, but it didnt arrive till we were done eating (almost 7:30). Perhaps they should hire more kitchen staff and a second bartender?"

"I enjoyed Town immensely..It was our first time, and I decided to celebrate my BFF Michel's birthday with another of our BFF; Kalena. The food was amazing...The best gnocchi I ever ate in my life and I traveled a lot! "Read about this place in WSj and had looked forward to dining here. Least successful meal of our stay in Honolulu. There are only about 5 entrees and at 6:45 pm on a Saturday night they were already out of one (duck). Companion ordered the pork shoulder which turned out to be a thin slice of meat that was dry and blah. I had a pasta which was tasty, but the portion was ridiculously small to call an entree at that price and had a pool of oil at the bottom of the bowl. Our waitress had 6 tables, including one 10 top and one 6 top, so we barely saw her until she came to get dessert order. The main dining room is all hard surfaces; wood, concrete, steel and the noise level with the room half-full was deafening. Prices aren't justified."

"Seemed like a cool place , good beer list. Gotta get there early cuz all the awesome dishes you read about are sold out if you get there late . Parking is very hard to get, and service is ok.
