"Once I had convinced a very bored front desk attendant (she was litteraly just attending) that there was a table outside (it was bussed and empty) we enjoyed a gret meal. Shame the forst contact could have spoiled the whole evenng - but I will not allow that to happen....."

"We went to the River Walk for the weekend and our friends had been here before. We made a reservsation and asked for seats outside. They seated us with a view of the river. the service was absolutely outstanding! The food was good as well. I was very pleased with them both. Too often in tourist areas the food and service is a let down-- not here. We'll return the next time we're in the area."

"The food is hit or miss. Sometimes the food is good and sometimes not so good. Saturday night, I ordered the shrimp nachos. They were pretty good. My friend ordered the beef skewers, and they were tough. She couldn't cut the meat with her knife. Don't know if I will be back. The service was wonderful."

"On our first trip to San Antonio, we scouted the best restaurants. This place was recommended while I was shopping at Paris Hatters (where I bought my first ever cow-person boots). Food was excellent, but we were seated inside, upstairs, with no view or particular ambience. When we left we saw the fabulous patio seating and realized we missed the best view on the Riverwalk. Be sure to eat here and wait for outdoor seating."

"San Antonio has by far the worst Mexican food ever. And Acenar is not excluded.

"On a rather crowded Saturday evening, we were promptly seated at our reservation time. Although there were many large groups (8,10,12 seats), our waiter, Roger, got our order and we were served without any wait. The food was well prepared and well served. "Food quality was excellent across the board. preparations were tasteful if somewhat "safe". They did make us wait for a table but we were a large group and ultimately were seated outdoors at a comfortable table - definitely request an outdoor table since the indoor section looked fairly sterile. Attention was good and not overbearing - don't come if your on a tight schedule or have to make an event - be prepared to relax and enjoy the meal & night air."

"The food was really good. The only difficult piece of the dining experience was the 7 piece mariachi band that played near our table for about 10 minutes. I did not see a band when I walked by the restaurant earlier in the day. I would never have booked if I HAD seen it. In the band's defense, after we said we were not interested in the music, they moved away from our table. So that was a positive for the situation."

"We really like this restaurant on the Riverwalk. They seated us immediately and our service was good. Our waiter for attentive and friendly. My children liked their meals. I had the shrimp and grits - very delicious. The atmosphere has a nouveau feel and had nice tables overlooking the river if you wanted to eat oustide - even had heaters when it's a bit chilly. It wasn't too pricey. I would go back, had a nice time."

"We ate here while visiting San Antonio for a winter getaway. The food and drinks were great! I had spicy shrimp and they had the perfect blend of spice to make it comfortably hot. Our server was a bit aloof but we had a 2 year old so maybe he was annoyed by this or maybe he was just super busy. But he did let us know that there was a child's size portion of what I wanted so that was helpful. The host was great! Very cheerful and high energy. We enjoyed our experience here!"

"Acenar came back fairly well after a really rocky start - we waited 20 minutes on a larger group reservation made months in advance. The hostess seemed to have real difficulty grasping the difference between reservations and wait list. We were placed in the darker upper level with no other diners, which made us feel a bit like pariahs. We did however, have a waiter to ourselves, which helped somewhat. The blood orange mojito and tuna margarita were deemed winners. The group was also taken by nearly every shrimp dish ordered, the carnitas and crab tacos. Consensus on the house made salsa was less favorable, from color to rather bland taste. The patio, which looked out on the River Walk, seemed like it would be a nice spot for dinner."

"I came here with a friend while we were in San Antonio for work. He got the snapper entree and I had the crab tacos. Both were flavorful, nicely presented, and priced very well. If I am ever back in San Antonio I would definitely come here again. The wait staff was very attentive and we were able to be seated promptly outside by the riverwalk. A definite gem!"

"We showed up a few minutes early and checked in, the host rudely stated that she would call us when it was our time. It was very clear that there were numerous tables open. It was also clear, both the host's were speaking to all patrons the same way. Once seated the service was slow and very sporadic."

"As always, Acenar comes through with great food. Had Conchita Pibil (roasted pulled pork with Mexican spices) and roasted Cabrito. Both were simply outstanding. The cabrito was easily the best I have ever had. The salsa is IMO the best in town! The Tres Leches was also outstanding and easily big enough to share. Highly recommended!"

"The food was only OK. I had a duck confit crepe, and I never tasted any duck, but the jalapeno mashed potatoes it sat on and the grilled asparagras were nice. It is all hard surfaced and very noisy."

"One of our most fun and tasty dinners in SA all week! Our server, Desiree, was outstanding! She even compiled a list of "must dos" while visiting. Food was great and drinks were dee-ish! It's always busy so don't go without a reservation!"

"Delicious food in a great location on the San Antonio Riverwalk. Fabulous signature margaritas. Service was pleasant and efficient, though at times it felt that we were being rushed (e.g.,the "bouncer" offered to clear our water glasses three times), yet we only stayed for 1 hour, and it was a weekday night. I'd definitely return for the wonderful food, ambience and margaritas, and hope we won't be rushed the next time."
