Neyla
Meet Neyla, the Mediterranean spirit of prosperity, abundance, and success. The restaurant that celebrates her is a treat for the senses and social graces. Both elegant and comfortable, Neyla is inspired by Romanesque Mediterranean villas, and influenced by the myriad peoples who settled in that wondrous part of the world. Neyla is a delightful mix of exotic cultures, inspired in the homes, hearths and taverns of the rugged land known first as Phoenicia, then the Ottoman Empire, and later the Republic of Lebanon. From nomadic Arab tribes, Ottoman Turks, Egyptians, Greek and French rulers, Neyla's food melds the best of all the Mediterranean cultures. Vegetables, salads, grilled meats and fish are set off by light, and subtly spiced sauces. Coriander, cinnamon, basil, thyme, Turkish pastries, coffee with cardamom and of course the renowned Lebanese mezzas tell the tongue a story of four thousand years of culinary history.

"We were really looking forward to our evening at Neyla, had a reservation confirmed and were dressed up! But after waiting at the table for 20 min to get greeted by our server and at least receive menus we felt very unwelcome. Waited another 15 minutes, hoping to place our order, but the server never showed up - so, we left the restaurant. Would never go there again and not recommend Neyla to anyone."

"Whenever I have the chance to visit Georgetown, I make sure to dine at Neyla, and I am constantly recommending it to friends and colleagues. The staff is great, the atmosphere is unique and transports you to the other side of the world, and the food is fantastic. I've never had a bad bite at Neyla, and enjoy dining there whether I'm by myself or with a group of 10 people. Two thumbs up for Neyla!"

"We ordered several different appetizers and the food was great. This was not a good venue for a first date though. It was very noisy and I sat at a table that was narrow and long so that I was sitting a long distance from my date. We had to scream and lean in close just to be able to barely hear each other and finally gave up and decided to sit and look at each other and just enjoy the food. I would only recommend this place for groups or if you just want good food and already know the person or people you are with."

"Each one of us at the table could not get over how amazing the food was not only in the presentation, but every dish tasted so delicious. We loved the authenticity of the hommus, Lamb chops, Chicken Shawarma, mixed grill (I can go on,,)...Oh and you must try their Arabesque...they use a special lemonde to mix with the Vodka, it had a mint flavor to it, very good. We all walked away feeling so good about the meal we just shared. I highly recommend Neyla."

"I have always loved the ambience and food at Neyla, but this time around it was different. Our waiter was less concerned about servicing us and more concerned with chatting with the other employees. There was a screaming child at 9pm and the resturant could care less about the other guests who were trying to enjoy their meal. Granted it is a public space and people are going to be loud, but manager (wears glasses) added to the loudness. I understand that he has to chat up his guests, but he could have used his inside voice.I was trying to have a romantic dinner, and this was a fail. I have always had good service at Neyla (just not this time) and will try again."

"entree portion was small. maybe that's by design. (entrees were relatively small part of menu)
I had the branzini sea bass.... it was very good. The rice was a smooth complement - some kind of subtle nuts in it = great texture and taste with the fish.
the fish came with the tail - i think the head was gone... I liked this as it felt like I was getting the whole deal rather than some dude's idea of a filet.
cool decor (middle eastern tent-like thingy) - bar seemed cool as well... back patio, though i didnt use it - was pretty; interesting shaped chairs. in the back."

"Had to wait for an outdoor table but the host kept an eye on us at the bar so we weren't forgotten. A large party before us caused our dinners to be delayed quite a bit, but our waiter kept us informed, and brought two desserts on the house. While there is a list of entrees, one can chose an assortment of small plates instead, and all were delicious, including the bread and dipping suace that arrives complimentary. I am not a fan of baklava but would definitely order it again here."

"I just love Neyla! The food is superb, the restaurant is beautifully decorated and the waiters and waitresses are attentive and helpful. For the first time, we sat outside as the weather had warmed up, and I was pleasantly surprised how quiet it was--easy to have a conversation over good food, even though it's close to busy Wisconsin Ave. I live in Adams Morgan, but go over to Neyla's all the time."

"My wife and I chose Neyla for its location near a concert we were to attend. We had never been and had no particular expectations. What a terrific surprise! First, the food was outstanding, made with the freshest of ingredients, meticulously prepared, very delicious, and beautifully presented. Second, the service is impeccable: the wait staff are well trained, formal but not snooty, and extremely attentive -- a rarity in the US! Third, and important to us because of hearing impairments, they honored our request to set us in a quiet area (which they have). We can't wait to tell our friends and can't wait to return. Neyla is a superbly managed restaurant, a tad pricey but well worth it for the food and the experience."

"This place was really nice. I loved everything about it. The only drawback was the food. As a person who's very familiar with Middle Eastern dishes, all different entrees that we tried at Neyla was kind of spiced the same - lots of allspice and clove. I just wish they'd expand their menu a bit and add a little variety. Other than that, if I lived in Washington DC, I would make it a regular spot."

"Perhaps the sound system can be re-assessed, whereby the louder volume speakers are positioned nearer the bar area and the other speakers at the corners of the room can have lower volume so that diners hear each other and not yell at each other. "This was a real roll of the dice... After looking online for any reviews, I wasn't sure what to expect. My bf and I went to dinner here with 2 other couples, and it was actually very very good. I'm surprised there isn't a bigger buzz about it. We ordered a ton of tapas, all delicious and mostly vegetarian (which was hearty enough to feed all of us meat eaters :) ) the staff was quick and charming in helping us decide which mezzas we wanted. The prices were excellent -avg. $9 per mezza. Best of all was the lighting/mood. Really unique and sexy, and perfect for a date or a group of friends. Definitely going back!"

"We were visiting Washington, DC with our family and went to Neyla for dinner on a Saturday evening. They seated us promptly at a roomy table and imediately brought a plate of pita chips, dip, and olives. We sampled several of the Mezze (including the falafel, hommus, tabbouleh); all were excellent and made even better by the basket of hot pita bread that simply melted in our mouths. The chicken shish taouk and beef kebobs were very good, and the branzino (in a marinade of lemon, olive oil, and oregano) was outstanding. The service was fast paced (a bit chaotic) but attentive. We skipped dessert (as Georgetown Cupcakes beckoned from around the corner) but they looked good from a distance. Neyla is a great dining option in Georgetown!"

"Fresh, authentic and creative Lebanese cuisine are the hallmarks of this neightborhood gem in the Georgetown area of Washington, DC. All the traditional Lebanese staples are here (hummus, babaganouj,fatoush, taboulieh, falafel and much more), served beautifully. The mezze menu is extraordinary - beyond the "usual" Middle Eastern fare in the U.S. Freshly made, piping hot pita is served, and the kebabs are prepared over an open coal fire in the heart of the dining room. Service was meticulous and very friendly on our Sunday night occasion. House-made desserts, including baklava and kanafe, were outstanding. A nice wine list compliments the service. The dining room is very welcoming."

"Food was good, and service was even better. The portion size is okay, but not too filling. Lots of condiments and potatoes, which to me is insufficient for a $24 and up entree. You should order at least three small plates per person for dinner. Lamb chops were tasty, but they are served with a huge serving of potatoes and condiments. So it would be nice to have a vegetable with them other than a herb and red onion hash with yogurt. I was still hungry after ordering them because I didn't want to fill up on potatoes. I will return, but probably try small plates instead."

"This was our 2nd time at Neyla and we were not disappointed. We dined on several starters instead of one main dish. All the dishes we had were delicious. Our waitress was a gem. Great energy and very knowledgable. A very nice evening. The first time dined we here was in the summer and we were able to sit outside on the patio, which was delightful. Our recent visit was winter, thus inside seating. The decor is very nice and lends itself to a romantic experience..and that was even before any belly dancing."

"We were celebrating my friend‘s birthday and were very well taken care of by everyone at Neyla. We were shown to a nice table, given a lovely welcome and the birthday girl even received a complimentary dessert. It was the first visit for all of us, so we wanted to try a bunch of things - we had a Lebanese tasting sampler and a few restaurant week specials (pastilla and salmon), in addition to the fatteh and muhammara mezza. Everything was delicious -- my only complaint would be that it got pretty loud in the restaurant on a Friday night. I will definitely be coming back for a fun atmosphere, great service and fantastic food."

"We asked for a table away from the door in a quiet area. The restaurant was not busy yet we were seated right next to the door. Also, no valet was working. The waiter, the food, and the drinks were fantastic, yet those two things really upset me. I can understand not being able to accommodate a request if you are busy, but that was not the case this time around."

"Handsome young black-shirted wait staff give a martial whiff to this terrific Lebanese restaurant. The ambiance is not laid-back, and the enterprise is devoted to pleasure. High ceilings hung with whimsical draperies and large multi-colored chandeliers, a big long bar, and an open hearth for kabobs that dominate the main courses make for an unusual retreat from the honky-tonk atmosphere of Georgetown. The food however is the main thing: I will return for lamb chops and almond rice."

"Even though we had reservations, we were seated in front of the door on a night when the temperature was 22 degrees. Also, our table was so dark, we couldn't read the menu. The waiter did bring another candle but we still couldn't read the menu. The waiter was attentive but kept trying to upsell. He told us we could add a lamb chop to any meal for a couple of dollars. A couple was actually $8. After he took our order, he later came back trying to get us to add appetizers,
The Branzino was good but, again, we couldn't see what was on our plate."
