Boasting the beautifully carved oak paneling and unique tin ceiling of the haberdashery it once was in the 1930's, Shuckers is one of Seattle's oldest and most pre-eminent oyster bars. With a daily menu featuring a selection of fresh fish and seafood, Shuckers brims with 13 different kinds of oysters prepared nine different ways and features local artisan microbrews.
The Zagat 2005 Restaurant Survey coins Shuckers as a 'Seattle classic' that is one of the 'best seafood restaurants in town' with 'great ambiance' and 'excellent service.'
"It was very noisy when we arrived. Apparently some prom had just let out.
The oysters and seafood were very good and the service was excellent. We were tired and hungry and after the noisy customers had left it was very nice ambience."

"Menu on Open Table, did not reflect the $$ value. There were a lot of items greater than $30. The price for food did not reflect the portions which was disappointing. $25 for fish and chips and you get four nugget size pieces of fish. Good for large groups and they can accommodate. The address is actually on 4th avenue, not on on University."

"Visited while my wife and I were vacationing in Seattle for a few days. Noticed the menu while out for a walk and planned to return in the evening. We were not disappointed! The Chopped Seafood salad was quite delicious (and packed with crab and shrimp). The clam chowder was very creamy and flavorful. We ordered the Mixed Seafood Grill (as we could not decide between the salmon or halibut). All was delicious - especially the halibut which was cooked to perfection. The waiter suggested a great bottle of Oregon Pinot Noir to complement the dinner. The blackberry/blueberry cobbler with sour cream gelato dessert was INCREDIBLE - incredible intense berry flavors."

"The food was very nice the waiter was not attentive he seemed like he was not enjoying his job. I felt liked we were being rushed, I would go back but with a different waiter, they do not validate parking"

"In making the reservation I requested a window table and they were happy to accomodate me. The service was outstanding with a knowledgeable waitperson who was able to answer all our menu questions from how different items were prepared as to the names and description of the raw oysters on the menu. The prices are such that even monthly excursions to this restaurant is out of my price range I will definitely be back for another special ocasion."

"I made reservations through Open Table, assuming for Mother's Day that they would be busy, we arrived about 15 minutes earlier than our reservations to a practically empty restaurant, so a table for 4 was easily available. I would have to say the host and hostess were the highlight. If this was based just on them, I would definitely give them 5 stars. But sadly, it's not. Oysters and Jumbo prawn appetizers aside (because those were enjoyable) the food and service was bland to say the least. This was my first time here. I didn't know seafood could be so bland. No flavor in the seafood paella, my ribeye was more rare than medium rare, but that was tolerable. We won't be back."

"Shuckers is an excellent seafood restaurant for pairs, small and large groups. I ate there twice, consecutively.
1. On the second night, we were a group of 12. Service (by Richie) was outstanding; he was knowledgeable, patient and friendly. We had 3 bottles of wine suggested by Richie, all good. We had a selection of 8 various tasty seafood entrees and 6 starters which we shared. Nothing was overcooked nor underseasoned.
We did not like some of the heavy side dishes, possibly b/c we are used to European food. If you like light side dishes; select the vegetables and salads which were very good.
2. The night before we were only 2 for a light dinner at Shuckers. Cornmeal Halibut +Quinoa was outstanding, but the waiter short-tempered."

"This spot has seen its day and if it closed few would notice it was gone. It may be the oldest oyster house in Seattle, but for the price point there are so many other restaurants with better, fresher, more seasonal and locally sourced products.
This pace was sad."

"Shuckers is one of the most consistently great restaurants. It can be anything you want - a bar, a grill, great for family groups, just all around reliable. I can't say enough about the quality of the food or the service. It is my "go to" place for lunch or dinner when we are in Seattle."

"Fifth visit - no negatives whatsoever. Food excellent, fresh, tasty. Service - very knowledgeable staff, not pushy. One of our small party sceptical about oysters (East Coast experiences) but now sold on this delicacy, as well as Alaskan halibut and scallops. She went back the next night for a repeat.
Not to be missed when in Seattle."

"Service was horrible. Served one person on my parties soup first and our salads 20mins later. We noticed our waitress had so many tables . However we had to ask for our salads. There was about a 20min wait for our main course after we finished our salads. Then they forgot part of our order . It appeared our waitress was taking care of all the tables. So I don't blame her mainly the management ."

"Great shucking on the oysters (no shell bits) and perfect presentation. We had the kushi & treasure cove oysters which were excellent. Always love the shaved horseradish. The Crab Louie Salad is always so cold and so delicious. I absolutely love the lavosh. Charles was a wonderful waiter. We're never disappointed coming here!"

"Dark wooden paneled walls, plush chairs, this place is old school. My server was over 60 and apparently a few of the clientele too. But service was efficient and friendly, the food was not bad. I ordered a dozen oysters which were shucked well save for some grit. The crab bisque was so so, and bizarrely two pieces of crab meat were served on the side on top of two pieces of oily toasted bread. The rocket salad had a sweet honey and bacon dressing, coming up to expectations. At $60 for what I just described above, it's not cheap, but you come here for the ambiance I think."

"Made it in time for $1.50 oysters on the half shell happy hour so had a half dozen of a variety of those which were good, but what was amazing was the variety of their baked oysters. Rockefeller was good, but the others were top notch. They also smoke them in house so they have an amazing flavor. Typical business type decor; hardwood and benches. Would recommend if you love oysters."

"Food was very good but not great as I would expect for the price. Also the portions were on the small side. Hence the lower rating. Service was very attentive and not stuffy. Listed as a $$ but really is a $$$."

"My initial experience is that the hosting and getting my party of two seated was slow (and the restaurant was only 1/2 full) and that it took a long time for the waiter to get to us. Once they engaged though we had a terrific experience...the waiter encouraged us to try oysters that we weren't familiar with and made some fantastic recommendations. I just wonder if there isn't enough wait staff since everything took a while to get. I'd go back again for the oysters just making sure I have the time to be there."
