"My wife and I came here 20 years ago when we were dating. I remember Bill Walton happened to be there at the time and my wife got his autograph. We moved all over the country been married 20 years now and decided to come back for my wifes birthday. We were happy to see that the same great food and service hasn't skipped a beat over all those years. Thanks you for a great dinner and evening. Our server was fantastic!

"Overall, my fiancé and I were not completely satisfied with the Brigantine. We ordered the stuffed sea bass and cioppino. The sea bass was dry and overcooked and the cioppino was nothing grand. I am afraid of complaining about my food and sending it back because I do not want the kitchen to do anything to my next dish. Call me paranoid but I am sure you would think twice after seeing the movie Waiting. The service was also very slow. On the plus side, it was our 4 year anniversary and we received a free crème brulee:) We also enjoyed the crab and shrimp fondue and the habanero lime margaritas. I believe in second chances so we will try the Brigantine again. We will just steer clear of the sea bass and stick with appetizers and drinks."

"Brigatine La Mesa met and exceeded our expectations. My mother is hard of hearing and it is a pretty loud restarurant. I aksed for a quiet corner and even though it was packed, they found a wonderful table for us. The food was excellent. We got amazing service from Sophia as well. What a wonderful day. We WILL be back!"

"Had a reservation. My party was seated right away but the wait for our 1 appetizer of chips and white sauce was 30 minutes. The wait for 2 child's meals (corn dogs) was 1 hour. At no time did the waitress touch base with us to apologize about the delay. Spent $78 for the WORST dining experience I've had in years, maybe ever. The Brigantine used to be a really great place. Now they could take a lesson in customer service.
Food--Anthony's has bad seafood and this place was still worse. Won't be back."

"We have been to Brigantine restaurants in a few different locations. All of them have been overall good experiences. The food has always been excellent and service has always been great. It is sometimes a little loud and hard to have a serious conversation with guests but since it is family friendly (and bar friendly), that is understandable.

"Great food, great service, welcoming staff. One of the few fine dining restaurants in East County. We went on a Wednesday night and it was packed. Glad we had made a reservation. 1/2 price wine bottle Wednesdays. Great idea. We try to go every few months and the food and service are consistently exceptional. And don't forget the dessert. I recommend the three little portions of creme brule. Good for sharing and oh so creamy and delicious."

"Two couples dined at Brgantine La Mesa to celebrate a wedding anniversay. This is the second year we have done so, and hope to make this a tradition.
The food was excellent, the wine special (Kenwood Cabernet) was very nice, and the service was outstanding. One of the diners has ciliac disease and must be very careful about gluten free foods. Tom, the waiter, was very knowledgeable about gluten free as his wife has similar challenges. The gluten free menu was very helpful, and Tom answered all the questions as well as made certain the chef was aware of the special needs of this diner.
Overall an outstanding experience that will be repeated, sooner that annually I am sure."

"Normally, I would give everything 5 stars but Saturdays dinner was not as good as usual. Our waiter was very nice, but things were running really slow.
My husband always gets your prime rib because he says it's the best in town. It was a little tough and his veggies weren't very good either. I get the Lobster/Crab Cobb salad and it was "skimpy"."

"It was my friends 21st birthday on March 2 and we dined in on March 2. We sat to eat and ordered drinks. Bryer was the waiter and when he checked our ids he wasn't sure if my friend could order because he was unsure if she had to wait till midnight. Make sure your staff knows how to calculate birthdays. Next, we asked for a box, when we dropped off the food, it was like a drive by. He paced without stopping and put the food on our table. When asked about the soup of the day and catch, he was unsure. His recommendation was odd, noting that the dish was nice looking. I'm not sure how the look of the dish would make me want to eat it. Our experience was an okay one."

"I bring guests to the Brigantine several times a year. I have noticed that the overall quality is declining. My latest visit was on Friday 1 March. Here's a rundown of our experience:
1. We ordered drinks, but they were very late arriving.
2. Bread wasn't brought until just about the time of the appetizer, about fifteen or twenty minutes after we were seated.
3. Service was very slow and the waiter was difficult to find.
4. We ordered a second drink, which arrived late, at the same time as the main course.
5. My guest's glass was badly broken, not just cracked. There was a large piece of the rim missing. This should have been noticed by the bartender or the server.
6. The food was mediocre."

"We were seated in an area that was very noisy. There were three of us, seated in a booth, adjacent to a large group of women, and we had to yell to be heard. "We went on a Friday night, so it was a bit busy. Not a big deal tho, because we had a reservation and only waited for a few minutes, which was great.
The food and service was very good. Even though it was very busy that night, we did not wait long for our food or drinks.
They were out of the type of beer that we drink, so that was a bit disappointing.
It was a great, fun place to dine and hang out with friends. We will definately go back!"

"I made a reservation five or six days in advance for our Saturday night 6:45PM dinner. With the exception of being seated at 7:00PM, we had a lovely dinner. We were seated in what seemed to be an overflow room (didn't even know that room existed), that lacked the ambiance of the rest of the restaurant, but the upside was it was a much quieter room. Our waiter, Tom, was exceptional. Not only did he explain the menu/specials in detail, his attention to service was top notch. My husband and I both had very good meals and we left wondering why we don't come to The Brig more often."

"Brigantine was very good, as usual. Accommodated a seating request easily, fish was great, veggies crisp, service was attentive. Took an out of town guest who thought it was the best meal she had in San Diego, and she had eaten at a couple of the 'fine dining" restaurants downtown.
One of the best places to eat in East County."

"I made reservations for my wife and I on Feb 16 to celebrate Valentine's Day because my wife worked an evening shift on the 14th. The reservation was for 5:30 PM and we arrived at 5:15 and reported with one of several hostesses at the front. A girl told me it would be closer to 5:30 before we were seated. She gave us a "beeper" and told us it would go off when our table was ready. We went to the bar to wait. 5:30 arrived and passed and at 5:45 PM I decided to check on our table. When I asked why we hadn't been seated the girl was clearly flustered and tried to tell me they called my name several times. I showed her the beeper they had given me and told her it never went off. We were eventually seated but it was a little after 6:00 PM."

"The service was very good. The appetizers were very good. My lobster on the other hand was rubbery, like a prop from a gag store. This was supposed to be a special dinner for me and my gal. Her dinner was very good so I didn't say a thing. I'm not rich so we only do this every few months. Next time it will not be the Brigantine."

"I always enjoy this place as a last minute night out. Food is consistent, service is friendly and I'm a sucker for their bread baskets (I leave bigger times because I'm that guy that doesn't ask for refills for my soda, I ask for bread refills) I strongly suggest making a reservation. Arrived 10 min early and got seated within 5 minutes in a cozy booth..the wait time for walk ins was 45 min...btw, I made my reservation on open table driving to the restaurant so there's no excuse really!"

"We were very satisfied with our food. The only negative of the night was our reservation was made for the patio and not indoors. My confirmation email from OpenTable didn't state anything being on the patio so I must have missed something when I made the reservation or the Brig overbooked. However, the patio has so many space heaters that it was very toasty outside and I ended up taking my jacket off. Great food. Always a busy place. Will surely go back."

"The Brigantine is a group of restaurants across San Diego County. All of them have pretty much the same menu. However, the La Mesa location stands out. Their chef puts extra effort into the dishes to make them simply delicious. Try the Cioppino which is excellent or the Prime Rib. My favorite starter is the Coctel Del Mar."

"Great ambiance, good happy hour, early bird specials are a good bargain. Prefer the Coronado Brig. The La Mesa Brig is very had to park and has limited spaces in the upper lot. The lower lot is quite a climb if you have any trouble walking. Other wise a fun place to eat and meet friends. Try to avoid either of the two restaurants on weekends. The noise level can get pretty loud making it difficult to talk and hear."

"Too much salt, too much butter, too much noise. Salmon and scallops were wonderful and fresh but everything on the plate was drowning in salty, greasy butter and pesto. Very good, friendly service. This is the place to go for drinks and appetizers in your shorts, tee shirt and ball cap. Dinner is like going to Anthony's. As usual, no where to go in East County for fine dining."
