"Took a group of 16 of us here for dinner to celebrate my cousins recent graduation. Was perfect for this occasion. The atmosphere has a hip vibe to it and the casual high-end diner atmosphere was very cool. Menu is pretty creative and the halibut with spring pea shoots that I had was perfectly prepared and the presentation was very appealing. Portion quantities are very reasonable - not crazy giant or taster menu small. My sister had the black cod with a miso marinade that was delicious and my daughters had the pork rib chop with Tuscan influenced white bean and sautéed greens that they loved. Overall a great experience and our waiter did really well with this large a group."

"Went for an early dinner before the opera. The service was great and totally respectful of our time table. The ambience was a little loud but we could still carry on a conversation. Had the halibut that was plated in a sea of watercress puree and spring peas. The halibut was grilled just right and hot but the puree was very cold. My only negative comment is that everything is a al carte and ends up being very pricey for the meal. Not sure the price is worth it."

"We joined friends for a birthday celebration at the Steelhead diner.
We tried a variety of house items. We started with the Shrimp and Crab Tater tots. For the entrees we tried the catfish po' boy, the burger and the sole. We also added the asparagus as a side dish to share. The portion sizes were very generous. The sole had a topping of fresh lemon slices that were lovely and delicate. The po' boy which was listed on the web reviews was too much bread and not enough fish. The asparagus were wonderful. They were cooked on the diagonal with peanuts and Asian seasoning.
The restaurant was packed from the time we sat down to the time we left. If you are going, you definitely need reservations."

"Having never been to Steelhead Diner before we did not know what to expect for lunch but the very nice interior ambience suggested right away that this could be good. First impression at this place are born out by the food. The Catfish Taco via New Orleans style without blackening was truely one of the best fish dishes I have ever eaten. The catfish was heavenly, the hot and spicy underlay of beans and potatoes added just the right spicy note to the delicate fish. Basically this meal is one of my top 10. Nice work Steelhead!!!"

"First time visitor to Steelhead Diner. We were seated in what appeared to be a temporary area of the restaurant..it looked like it was still under construction. We asked to be moved, but were told there were no other tables..weird because walk-ins were being seated elsewhere. Not what I expected for an Open Table reservation. The noise level in this area was deafening..hard to have a normal conversation. The restaurant was cramped with several large groups. Servers did their best, but I never got my drink, and entree (fish) came out overcooked/tough. By this time, we were ready to go. Anyone considering Steelhead should go somewhere else in the market...there are better choices nearby that have been consistently great for me."

"Service was slow, food (by the time it got to the table) was very cold ( though they did give me a free dessert for the inconvenience), and the drinks were brought only after I had to remind the waiter that we ordered them. The food wasn't terrible, but it's a standard restaurant with decent food. Their are much better places in the area to check out."

"I've eaten at SD many times and it is usually a hit for me. So it was a little unusual to have an off experience (relative to prior). We went for the Seattle Restaurant Week promotion based on the online posted menu, but the prix fixe menu had substitutions that I didn't find appealing. Then it just seemed like each food course took a long time - we were there for 1 1/2 hours. Finally, I was surprised to be charged for my 2nd non-alc beverage. I should have asked, I guess. Still, the food was excellent as always, and our server was friendly and helpful."

"Went during Restaurant Week on a Wednesday for the special menu. Glad we had reservations--they were packed! Seated promptly and had attention right away, but our server was clearly overwhelmed with the number of tables he had and so was unable to focus on us for more than a minute or two at any one time. He was friendly and ultimately the food was served timely; it just felt like we were interrupting him when we needed something. The food was tasty, though a couple of dishes were not as successful (shaved asparagus and radish salad was more bitter than expected; NY strip steak was medium well, instead of pink throughout). Portions were generous. The mahi mahi special was apparently delicious. Like the ambiance, and will go back."

"Four of us went to Steelhead on a Wednesday evening. It was hopping when we arrived! And the sun hadn't yet set so the view was spectacular! Our table didn't permit seeing the Sound unless standing but our location was quieter than some others. The food was wonderful! Our entire group was very happy!"

"Went here with the new in-laws the day after our wedding.
The vegetable dishes rock! The fish and chips was a little bland. The whole fish was succulent and cooked just right. We were too stuffed to get dessert but will be back for the vegie dishes and hopefully have room to try the cheesecake."

"Seattle Restaurant Week - what a deal. Had the crab/shrimp tator tots for the appetizer and it was delicious. The pesto pasta sounded really good, but flavor-wise was ordinary. Went lighter with the sorbet, which was refreshingly good. My friend had the wilted spinach salad and arctic char - I tried a bit of both and both were excellent! Overall (again) very good... The service was exceptional (very nice and attentive waiter)."

"Aside from having some of the best service in Seattle - food is always an experience to look forward to. Due to the 3 course restaurant tastings - I am now a fan of the crab tator tots, major yum program. The atmosphere at the market is always energized, but your staff is a major reason I come back. There are few Seattle places that realize that more and more competition is penetrating the market - service and quality of food will rule. Steelhead is an icon restaurant for Seattle - thanks so much for taking care of my friends, clients and ME! Love the place. I have recieved many customer service awards during my career - hats off to you for knowing how to make customers feel special."

"My husband got the salmon, which he raved about. It also came with a good-sized portion of veggies, so he didn't feel compelled to order an additional side dish. I'm a vegetarian, and I found great food on the menu - plus, after drinking a couple of the Green-Butted Skunks, everything tastes good!! Great restaurant. Attentive and enthusiastic (but not intrusive) service."

"Popped in there on the spur of the moment (Thanks to OpenTable) and enjoyed Easter Brunch. The food was great and there were a nice selection of options. I plan on going back soon to try dinner. Nice windows to catch the action outside and it's right there in the Marketplace which is a big plus."

"The location and ambiance were very good. It was the weekend so service was pretty slow as they were very packed. The food is where they missed. My hamburger that I ordered medium rare looked like it had been cooked in the UK during the worst of the mad cow disease scare and was well into the well done category. The potatoes my wife and aunt ordered were in pretty tough shape from an overcooked point of view. The girls enjoyed the salmon and salad. Overall great location and atmosphere, but the food and service missed the mark."

"Everything would have been perfect if we didn't wait for an hour and a half for our main course, all the tables around us had eaten and left. The server came out a few times to say it would just be a few more minutes and that he was comping one of the meals. The food was really good, but we were there for lunch for 2.5 hours. We had to pay extra than we wanted to for parking. Pretty sure the server forgot to send our food, but the chefs should have put a rush on it."

"Went there with my family from overseas. I was there for dinner before and found the food then more interesting. The lunch menu is a bit blah, even diner-like. It could have been a bit more elegant. The service is great though and the people friendly."

"The manager and our waitress and waiter were friendly, knowledgeable and fun. The caviar pie was scrumptious and can only be found at Steelhead. The crab tater tots were full of crab. The fish and chips are exceptional. The special dinner had a beautiful, fresh salad,perfectly cooked sweet catfish over hominy with wonderful spiced coleslaw and cajun sauce. The special early dinner is a great buy. We love to try these new dishes from Chef Tony. Steelhead's bartender always seems to make delicious cocktails.
One of the best places to dine in Seattle."

"Outstanding food and great service just steps away from the Public Market sign in Seattle. No reservations were available directly but I was able to get one via open table, Thank You Open Table. The service was good. The atmosphere was good. I would absolutely recommend this restaurant to anyone in Seattle and looking for a great dinner location."

"This was my first visit to the restaurant via Dine around Seattle. It was packed at lunch time, a good sign. Nice views of the market and bay from several tables. Waiter brought an amuse-bouche, unexpected and good. Had an excellent soup and loved the chocolate pecan pie for dessert, a very generous portion. The mahi mahi main dish was a bit too saucy and very uniform in color-a drier grilled piece and some colorful veggies would improve the dish. All in all a good find and right in the market!"
