Chef-owner Daniel Patterson presents innovative cuisine made with locally sourced ingredients. Reservations are taken for our two dining rooms, both which feature a multi-course tasting menu, offered at $175 per guest, as well as an optional wine pairing offered at $105 per guest. Requests for a specific dining room can be expressed while making a reservation, and the restaurant will do it's best to accommodate. Due to the intimate size of the restaurant, we can only accommodate reservations of up to 4 guests in our two dining rooms. Reservations for parties of 5 to 8 guests can be made for our private dining room, which features the same multi-course tasting menu.
"Though this restaurant was recommended by a friend who works in the food industry, and though it has two Michelin stars, my friend and I were completely underwhelmed by the fare. It was certainly good, and a few of the dishes even went beyond just good, but given the price, we found the food mostly mediocre."

"Dinner at Coi is an adventure in food experiences. You start with a series of innovative amuse-Bunche, each with an unusual combination of ingredients, and all exquisite. Then the main event starts with a wonderful spot prawn course and continues with one innovative and wonderful course after the other. All on all, a delight!"

"The food was outstanding. The flavors were perfectly matched. The chef showed great promise. The service was excellent except that the wine service was unacceptable. we had brought a bottle of wine and I had to ask on two occasions to have someone pour the wine and should have done it a 3rd time."

"We first ate at Coi in 09 and found it to be rather a revelation. Four years latter(we live in Australia) little has changed to require us to reassess our view. Daniel Patterson's food continues to delight and surprise. The smoked yoke, onion and morel was the standout dish. The final protein, whilst very good, felt as it did four years previous, a concession to traditional menu construction, the previous 7 dishes standing alone as a outstanding savoury array. The wine pairings are daring and innovative, the sake, whilst not to my taste, matched well with the Geoduck and the Vuillermin a interesting treat. We were happy to overlook that service was not as polished but perfectly acceptable and the closeness of other diners claustrophobic."

"From a service perspective, Coi really earns its Michelin stars...and most dishes are really great...i can't give it 5 stars though, because it missed the mark on the main course, the Lamb. Most of the other dishes were really excellent, but I found myself fighting with the lamb...trying to cut it, trying to separate it from the mass of fat it had on it.
The wine pairing were quite good; almost all of them were perfect. I'd recommend it, and really did enjoy it, but it wasn't amazing."

"It was an interesting experience. Food was creative but we were far from blown away. It was okay and it been half the price, it probably would have been a better experience. The salmon was truly great, but that was the best part of the meal. Service was also great, but not worth the lack in food. While I was totally stuffed from the menu, my husband was still a little hungry."

"The dining room now is much brighter than few years ago ( I could not read the menu without pen-light ). All staff members are cautious yet friendly. Each dishes were presented the extreme details and precise works with elegant color. Yellow Squash Soup and Lamb Breast were a bit salty for us, but paired glasses of wine mended the salty-ness. I especially was impressed by the color contrast of Celtuce and burn hay. Beautiful."

"Coi deserves all the praise it has received. One of the best meals I have ever had. Especially liked the asparagus with mint and the squash soup.I grimaced over the idea of whipped coconut with olive oil but it was great."

"Given the pricing, Coi was just not great. Service was great. The main dining room is purposely minimal. But, unfortunately, so was the food and wine.
I wouldn't go to Coi again, nor would I recommend to any friends.

"I'm a big fan of tasting menu's and "tweazer" cuisine but Coi did not live up to the hype.
None of the ingredients evoked luxury or wow'ed me.
The menu is very stingy with proteins. I though I was eating a vegetarian menu. The wine pairings while good were not generous pours. I would have paid more for a few drops more beverage to accompany the plates.
Service was generally good but not at all personal or interactive. It came off all of it as very scripted and stilted.
We enjoyed our meal with its shortcomings but will not be back."

"One of the most inventive menus in the US today. You will be disappointed if you arrive expecting luxury ingredients. Expect, instead, redwood shoots, or the most fresh and intense pea soup you're ever tasted. The menu builds to a crescendo in the late courses."

"I'd heard quite mixed things about Coi (it's ancient French for 'tranquility' apparently) and fool I was for avoiding it for so long. The service was spot on, the food delicious and the venue pleasant. It was little things that made it for me though: the best playlist of any restaurant I've been to in the bay soundtracked the meal, the pace was just right (a little over 3 hours in total) and the most helpful, unpretentious sommelier I've encountered in a while (plus a very sensible range of prices on the list). Yes, it is very pricey indeed but it's worth trying if you are interested in high end cuisine."

"The price value is ridiculous, some dishes completely oversalted, mediocre wines. It is the worst combination of very high price and low food quality I ever experienced.
Please take off list of good Bay Area restaurants: That will help gourmets to spend their money more wisely."

"Eleven courses, all artistic, interesting. Many of them did not happen to taste good to me (a finger of salsify with tiny herbs planted in a brown substance on top), and other, delicious flavors were in too short supply (a single perfect oyster made me yearn for more). It's an experience -- more aesthetic than gustatory -- but if you're curious and have the time, give it a try."

"Of all the special facets of Coi, it is the creative cooking that puts Coi in a class by itself. A look at the menu can be off-putting: -how are we going to deal with tofu coagulated with seawater and topped with oxalis flowers? -how will the olive oil taste in one dessert, or the beeswax in another?
Questions like will pop up, but cast away your fears. If your experience mirrors ours, your answers will tend to fall along the lines of "it's beyond good, beyond interesting, a new approach to food."
Coi's food is as satisfying and as attractive as can be, but totally beyond what you're likely to have experienced or imagined."

"The whole experience was wonderful from start to finish. It is very pricey! But we enjoyed all 11 unique dishes that were served in the standard pre fixe menu. The portions are small but add up to 11 dishes - it does fill you up. The wine was wonderful too. It is very quiet and romantic. I think it is great for a romantic dinner for two for a special occasion. The wait staff is so nice and professional. We will go back once a year..."

"Definitely a special occasion restaurant with a fixed tasting menu similar to Brothers and Sisters. I would probably scare you off with the number of dishes, but they are all very small with intense and highly crafted flavors. The wine pairings were very imaginative and eclectic from all over the world and suited the dishes incredibly well. The fresh local produce was artistically presented and the flavors balanced to not overwhelm. To nitpick a little bit, the duck, which was a new dish, was served with a cherry blossom reduction. That was a little to subtle for my tastebuds, but it was still cooked to perfection. It's on the tackier end of Broadway, but the ambiance more than compensates."

"Don't know how many restaurants that tries to mimic Noma, but fails. This theme is getting tiring, and my next dining experience visit will probably rather be a not-so-fancy BBQ in Texas. The food at COI is not very special at all, the different flavours are competing with each other for originality, but the result usually ends up in a not so balanced dish.
Also, the wine pairing is a steal. Go for a bottle instead."

"Outstanding experience from the initial greeting as we entered to the escorted departure at the front door. The late winter / early spring 11 course tasting menu was notable with several outstanding dishes and one or two good but not great. Wine pairings were creative and interesting too. Service was impeccable...never rushed but never lagging. We received a printed copy of the menu and the wine pairings in a nicely designed envelope along with the bill. A very nice closing touch. We set our personal record for the most expensive dinner for 2 but it was a special occasion and Coi fit the bill."

"Dinner for 2 at over $500 should have risen above the mediocre/ok rate. The waiter was odd and seemed out of place. The location is curious. The initial courses were bland and uninspiring. The red wine was good. The lamb was very good. Not very memorable. It was a one time experience, won't be back. Sadly disappointed, and the wait staff really seemed out of place or like they were lookign at us like: you really aren't going to like this -- they almost seemed embarrassed or something. They could do a lot better with flavor in the initial courses. The winter menu is a dud, mostly. We went to Tosca's and then Brandy Ho's afterwards for potstickers and spicy chiicken to get the kinks out and spice it up a bit. Expected more. Oh well."

"My dinner at Coi was out standing. As a chef visiting from Canada I had high hopes eating here. It did not disappoint. With the best service I've ever seen. 3 Michelin star service. I've never felt so comforatble at a restaurant before. My only criticism would be that the portions were too tiny, I never wanted to stop eating every dish!"
