Grafton Street Pub and Grill
Originally opened in October of 1996, Grafton Street Pub and Grill has been a beloved institution of Harvard Square for over a decade. Located at 1230 Massachusetts Avenue-the Gateway of Harvard Square-this neighborhood hotspot is named after the spirited cobblestone-lined shopping district in Dublin's famed Temple Bar area. Grafton Street deftly combines a traditional pub's warmth and coziness with a contemporary and comfortable dining environment. Executive Chef Eric Gregory serves up contemporary American cuisine for lunch and dinner seven days a week, including a prized Sunday brunch. The bustling bar boasts an extensive selection of beer, wine and liquor, and features many signature cocktails created exclusively by award-winning Grafton Street mixologists. The 5,000 square foot space revels in tones of cream, beige and brown, complemented by black trim, yielding what is a well-designed but inherently relaxed space.

"We've eaten at Grafton Street probably six times and have always enjoyed it: reliably very good food, generous portions, reasonably broad wine list, not seriously expensive. Not a dinner you'll mention in your memoirs, but well above average. A good Harvard Square mid-point between, say, Sandrine's (excellent and pricey) and Mr. Bartley's Gourmet Burgers (excellent and inexpensive)."

"I'm English, and I have to say - their fish and chips BEAT the original hands down!! But that's only if you make sure to order them with the rosemary truffle fries instead of the ordinary ones - because these fries are quite extraordinary. (I should mention, you don't pay extra.) It's an amazing mixture of sweet truffle oil and fragrant rosemary - just heavenly. We keep coming back and we don't even have to look at the menu when we do - it's the fish and chips every time!"

"Went here to celebrate a graduation. We were seated right away. Staff was friendly and attentive. Food was good pub grub and was served on a timely basis even though the restaurant was very busy. "The brunch selection was solid and nearly Mother's Day special was intriguing. Initially the waitress was gracious and thoughtful. When we considered asking her to pour coffee for my tardy father, she suggested waiting until he arrived, to make sure it was warm. However, she disappeared for the longest time after we got our food until we were done eating. Besides expecting the typical "How is everything" check-up, my father's granola didn't come with spoon (first world problems), so he felt necessary to wait and ask for one. The opportunity didn't come easily until the end of the meal.
Otherwise, pleasant ambiance, tasty, well-plated food and amiable service for the price."

"Usually a decent place to eat before theatre or a concert.You can expect reasonably priced and tasty food.This time around the cooking just didn't add up to anything edible.With the tempura fish and chips, the tempura was glued to the fish and the fish fell had no substance and fell apart.
We also ordered a pot roast that was not very tasty.It touted some sort of parsley and horseradish crust that added nothing to the mix."

"I went to Grafton Street Saturday night with my husband, son, brother, his wife and son. Firstly, it's so nice that free parking is available with an Open Table booking. Most of the food was fabulous. My son complained that the pork was over cooked and dry. We ordered appetizers that were all exceptional: beet salad, Ahii Tuna wontons and a mussel and chorizo special in white wine sauce. I had scallops with roasted cauliflower and wheat berries at our waitress's suggestion, delicious! Others ordered a steak dish, and the Atlantic salmon. We shared a chocolate chip cookie sundae for dessert that was also yummy. I'm a coffee snob and was very happy with my Espresso. Nice and strong! Very noisy though, making conversation a bit tough."

"I came here for brunch one day with a couple of friends. The food was pretty good. I ordered the eggs benedict and my boyfriend ordered the corned beef. The only complaint I have is that my eggs were supposed to come with bacon and instead, there was a chewy piece of something on the side... it seemed like something in between a slice of ham and thickly sliced bacon... not sure... anyway, the rest of the food was pretty good. The service was also great. We will be back to try it for dinner."

"The restaurant was much as described by other reviewers. Even with a Reservation, it took :15 to be seated. The booth was cozy and quiet. The waitress forgot our drinks, but that was quickly remedied. She basically did the minimum required of her as a server. The food was good. Sweet-potato ravioli was excellent. The fish and chips: a little crispy on the outside, but we broke the shell and ate the fish inside. The beer was great, but I only had one since the marathon was the next day."

"I dined here on a Sunday night with my husband and daughter. Upon entering, I was surprised by the large capacity within! The bar was large and happening. The staff was pretty pleasant. We had the calamari, pretty good, but a little heavy on the salt. We also had the burgers and they were delicious! I did feel that our waitress was a little overwhelmed, which resulted in some of the service being slow, but she was pleasant enough. Very loud inside, often making hard to hear our soft spoken waitress. Overall good experience. Nice to try something a little different in Harvard Square. Definitely classier than Mr.Bartley's, and much more expensive. Will I kill myself to go back? No, but I may stumble again sometime if I'm in the neighborhood.."

"This review is for brunch. First, the hostess was very rude when I asked her if my party could sit at the open square table (rather than the large circular table) - we had only three people. I was denied and that square table remained open the rest of the meal. The rest of the service was decent. Second, the food was just mediocre. The english muffin of the eggs benedict was almos stale. The french toast was cold and with little added flavor. Would not return for brunch.
I have been there for dinner and the burger is quite good."

"The food at Grafton Street is consistently good and the atmosphere is always energetic and fun. The drinks are delicious, though they are always slow to arrive at the table. I like this place for groups of 5-8 because the tables are the right size for such groups, so that you can easily converse, rather than being put at a bunch of 2 person tables that are strung together."

"I made a reservation for a group of 7 at Grafton Street Pub for a Saturday night at 6:15. We arrived well in advance of our reservation but it took more than an hour to be seated. Even after telling our waitress that we had a show at 8:30, we ended up jogging through the streets of Cambridge to make curtain call. The plus side was that the food was great, they offered us appetizers on the house for our wait, and the drink selection was tasty. I'd recommend this to people who can take their time with their evening."

"Went here with a few friends for dinner and found it was just what we were looking for - reasonably priced, good food and cocktails, and a lively atmosphere. The lobster mac and cheese was delicious and it was a huge portion, enough to take home half. The gin cocktail I had was also good - refreshing and not overly sweet. The waitress was attentive without being overbearing and the to-go sandwich I ordered to take home for my fiance came out very quickly. There were quite a few large booths and tables, which would make this place good for larger groups. Although it is right in Harvard Sq, it didn't seem to be overrun with students. This may become my go-to spot to bring visitors for a relaxed yet tasty dinner."

"Grafton is our go-to restaurant in Harvard Square whether we're entertaining family or friends from out of town or business guests. The food is always consistently good, the price point is not out of this world. It has a comfortable environment and consistent good service. The bar is small, but if you can get a seat it is a nice place to meet for drinks, especially if you can get a seat at the windows that open up in the summer (good for people watching:-))"

"Location was perfect as we were coming straight from Mass at the spectacular St. Paul's Church - a 1 minute walk away. Apparently known for a great regular Sunday brunch (not buffet), they offered an additional special brunch menu for Easter. We enjoyed traditional brunch fare such as Eggs Benedict with home-fries and Corned Beef Hash with poached eggs in addition to Easter menu items of a Salmon Frittata, served as a fluffy quiche-style wedge, with a generous serving of fresh baby greens and an "Irish Breakfast" chock-full with eggs, bangers (sausage), black & white "pudding" (more sausages) home-fries and toast."

"Not an overwhelmingly large menu here but the signature cocktails were terrific and the crab cake was excellent. Shared the beet salad with my spouse, which was a good thing... as it was HUGE. The seared salmon came w/ delicious roasted vegetables and yummy pureed parsnip sauce. Never made it to the dessert menu as we were all too full!
The waiter got busy and had to be reminded of a couple of our orders... but all-in-all a great dining experience!"
