"Went to celebrate an anniversary dinner. Service was nothing more than average. We ordered a filet and a porterhouse, theFood was between very good and excellent, portions were very generous. The room was very nice, I found the noise level to be a little bit too high if you want a quiet, romantic dinner.
With New York offering so many great choices for a steakhouse restaurant, I will try some of the others before rushing back. Overall, I would recommend giving it a try."

"Noise level was unbearable (staff clearing tables certainly added to this, not the least bit quiet), tables too close to each other, staff intrusive, did not appreciate waiter sloshing my wine from glass he got at the bar to the one that was on the table, steak was stringy, too much activity going on with staff and manager/owner to enjoy a nice dinner. And on top of this the man next to us had half of a cigar hanging out of his mouth - discusting- even if unlit. Why was this allowed? Certainly not a place to go if you want a nice quiet evening and conversation."

"The bar at the resturant is very small. It seems the resturant has a policy to make you wait in the bar regardless of your reservation time. We had to wait 30 minutes after our 7:30 PM reservation to be seated."

"This is an amazing dining experience!!! Have been here casual and romantic , both experiences outstanding!!!!! The food is amazing, the staff is awesome and the ambiance is great! Was a repeat customer of Smith and Wollensky but they have fallen and Benjamin now is the place to go for a phenomenal steak or lamb chops!!!! The only critique I have is maybe a larger selection of oysters, other than than that AMAZING!!!"

"We totally enjoyed our evening at Benjamin. It was a Saturday night so the place was packed but we did not find the noise overwhelming. We had no trouble carrying on a conversation between the two of us. Tables were close but not as close as many other NYC restaurants we've been to. I had a filet mignon which was cooked perfrectly and one of the best I've had. My wife has a 3 lb lobster which was also excellent. We had a Benjamin salad which had ample very large blue crab lump meat in it. I also had the sizzling canadian bacon which was delicious and (almost) too much for one person. The wine list had great choices with many very affordable and also some "slect" choices which were much more expensiuve. Overall, a great meal."

"I took my boyfriend here for his birthday and there were at least six other birthdays going on--it's that kind of place. The crowd was pretty diverse--casually dressed tourists, retirees, upper east siders, 20- and 30-somethings, it ran the gamut. It is on the pricier side but considering the amount and high quality of food you are getting, plus the above average service, it's pretty worth it. I had an excellent filet mignon, and the cut was much larger than I expected, and my boyfriend got the ribeye and it was superb--I'll order it next time. He doesn't drink, so I got a 1/2 bottle for myself, and it yielded 3 glasses for what I'd have otherwise paid for two. Our server recommended the bourbon pie for dessert, and we both loved it."

"We went there on our last night in town as it was higly recommeded by the hotel. Unfortunately, the restaurant did not live up to the recommendation. After waiting for over 30 minutes to be seated, when we had a reservation, the service and food was not good.
The party of 6 seated after us was served drinks and dinner before we even had our drinks. That was just the beginning. No need to continue.
Don't plan to return.
On the upside, we spoke with a manager on our way out and our bill was adjusted. So, that was a nice gesture but the dinner experience was a bust."

"Everything was Outstanding! Always a good sign when the restaurant is so quite because everyone is too busy enjoying their meal. The staff was extreamly attentive without feeling like you were being stood ontop of."

"We made a reservation in advanced but, by the time we arrived we were told we had to wait to get a table. This was the second time we had to wait a while. First time, we waited an hour (had a reservation at 9 and waited until 10 pm) this time we waited 30 minutes.

"First time here, but would definitely come back. Wanted a steakhouse to take a client out for dinner who was in NYC and selected Benjamin's after some research online. Had a 7pm reservation on a Wed.- the restaurant was mostly full and we were seated on time. I ordered the Ribeye - it was outstanding and I'm picky when it comes to steaks, especially $46 steaks. Don't know the exact size, but am guessing at least 22oz to 24oz on the bone, cooked perfect medium-rare, great flavor, served hot. My guest had the double cut veal chop which was huge and was told it was also very good. We shared onion rings (large size, very good) and a vegetable. Didn't have any appetizers or dessert (was too full), so can't comment on them. Worth a visit!"

"I had not been to the Benjamen before but it was an old line NY restaurant and the menue read well for a steakhouse. Friendly wait staff and great drinks. My guest ordered the Ribeye and was very happy, I on the other hand ordered a lobster and was terribly disappointed as two large (probably South African and formally frozen) lobster tails appeared. The menu specifically said Lobster, steamed or broiled it did not say Lobster tails so I was very disappointed. Would not go back for lobster, maybe steak!"

"Old-school service. This place makes you feel like they care! The steak for 3 easily feeds 4, and the sides were great. I've eaten here twice and both times, if you eat the edge of the steak there is a bit of a strange taste present, which I have a feeling comes from their aging process. Otherwise I'd give the food 5 stars."

"Incredible all around. Great staff, very accomodating, amazing meal! The reservation process through open table was fast and easy. We were stuck in traffic trying to get into the city, they moved our reservation on a busy friday night, and our table was waiting when we arrived. I will definitely be back."
