Bluegrass
Bluegrass is a casual restaurant located in Highland Park. With a cozy setting nestled into the west side of town it is a true destination dining location. Complete with a warm friendly bar and an American flare, Bluegrass blends in a little Southern influence into its repertoire. The wine and beer selections are all American, along with a full back bar, all hand selected to echo the quality of the fare. Check our website for all of our special events. Holiday Gift certificate specials at the Restaurant through the end of the year. Mardi Gras is upon us through the 12th of February! "This was our second time to Bluegrass. The first time we had the more traditional brisket and ribs which were amazing, but this time we decided to go with some of the specials. The service was great and the food was phenomenal. We got the Louisiana blackened grouper and the shrimp and crab pasta. Both were mouth watering delicious. We will definitely continue to go back for more."

"One of the best restaurants around! The owners are always there making sure everything runs smoothly and patrons are satisfied. The Chef comes out to check on the patrons as well. If there is ever an issue (and there rarely is) they make it right no questions asked. We highly recommend Bluegrass!!!"

"As I arrived, the location across from the police station and storage lockers, the low ceilings and 1950's ambiance of the dining area with mustard colored walls caused my expectations to plummet. Yet, the food was very good. The service was excellent. Eric, the waiter, gave good suggestions; and the water pouring person filled my glass, seemingly after every sip. The menu is a little unusual with a mixture of styles--all reasonably priced: sandwiches/hamburgers, Cajun, Texas Bar-B-cue, steaks and sea food."

"I llovef the ahi but only had a appetizer because they ran out. Calamari was very good. I ordered medium steak and problem should have got medium rare. . It was a little over done. . But still tasty. Environment a little chilly but warmed up then cold again. Typical winter but good to know it may be cooler. I would have liked to see a more diverse group of fish served too. But I'll be back to try the ribs for sure. Also add a few more selections for dessert. Overall very pleased. No complaining just suggestions. "Bluegrass has become our "go to" place for almost any weekend or occasion. The warmth of the hosts and owners is rarely seen in any restaurants today and it is truly a differentiator. The drinks are great, wide selections of beers and wine with specialty martinis. The food is just terrific, southern comfort food with a flair. We try new things on the menu. Our teen/adult children will even go out with us if they know we are headed to Bluegrass. They claim the Chicken Alfredo is the best they have ever had and the shrimp jambalaya is perfect in taste and consistency. Of course when our older son can order the Half Ribs Half Jambalaya he is pretty happy. I had filet and green beans and tasted the baked beans and peanut brittle."

"Our second visit to Blue Grass. Experience not as good as the first so slightly disappointing. One of our group of four was quite disappointed but should have spoken up; one thought the quality of the fish was only average and the amount of risotto (quite tasty) was skimpy; the other two quite enjoyed their dishes. Service was informative but often broke into our conversations - didn't read the table. It was a busy night but everything seemed to be moving along smoothly. We may return but there is a lot of competition in the Chicago metro area."

"The waitstaff and management were very friendly. The decor is sorely in need of updating and seems very nondescript;The food is somewhat overpriced. The sesame shrimp appetizer was excellent.
My wife had a steak ribeye steak that she enjoyed and that was fairly priced. I had jambalaya that was okay but simplistic. Its spice was very one-dimensional, and the dish is not authentic. Anyone who has sampled New Orleans jambalaya will attest to that.
Also, I had the shrimp that was offered as an add-on, but they were small, unseasoned, and not integrated into the dish. The jambalaya had much more rice than any other ingredient.
The restaurant is small and extra noisy when families with small children dine there."

"The food is good--there is no where else nearby to get decent Cajun food. Didn't have the gumbo this time (we are repeat customers), but highly recommend it! Also recommend the calamari and the bluegrass salad. The service is great, the staff is accommodating. We enjoy the casual atmosphere and the bar menu!"

"It is Mardi Gras at Blue Grass, and the Hurricanes are pouring! My Jambalaya was just right and my wife's catfish and shrimp, made to fit her special food needs, was delectable. Highly recommend this jem that we keep coming back to."
