La Notte Cafe, located in Berwyn, is a real treasure! This new bistro, open in May 2006, is the creation of Giovanni Matteo Mancini; it successfully combines outstanding cuisine in an elegant yet family friendly atmosphere. Giovanni is a restaurateur with experience that spans from his native city of Bari to Phoenix, and now in Berwyn. Delightfully decorated with pale coral walls and festive artwork, this corner cafe is large enough for a crowd, yet intimate enough for festive celebrations. The staff is outstanding, friendly and unbelievably attentive. Most of their dishes are handmade ---their pastas and desserts are made by hand, and their entrees feature old family recipes. You won't be disappointed by the cuisine at La Notte.
"A wonderful place to have that special occasion, small family gathering or with friends. A good wine list with helpful recommendations from your server."

"Not large enough portions for the $. The food was tasty, but I love all Italian food. This was nothing special, not bad, not great, but definitely a little pricey for the portions."

"The food was wonderful and they are willing to modify anything to meet your own taste. Service ane food quality for top notch. The family (owners) were on hand to make you feel very welcome and appreciated. We came in from Munster Indiana and it was well worth the trip!"

"We've returned to La Notte quite often since a relative recommended it several months ago, and our group keeps getting bigger each time. It's one of our favorite restaurants because we always leave extremely satisfied with the food and service.
We keep ordering our favorites - grilled calamari, caprese salad, fettucine alfredo, fruti di mari (mussels, clams, calamari, and shrimp) with linguine in red sauce, fresh fish with grilled vegetables and linguine. Everything is fresh and made to order - e.g., the owner recommended farfalle (bow tie) pasta for the kids instead of fettucine because it would be easier for them to eat (spot on!) - and we've made other substitutions for our preferences.
Wish we could go every week!"

"We have a birthday tradition where the family member whose birthday it is gets to pick the cuisine and then we go to restaurant featuring that cuisine that we have never been to. I picked Italian and, to our good fortune,we ended up at La Notte Cafe in Berwyn. What an enjoyable experience it was from the warm friendly atmosphere to the delicious appetizers and entrees. We had grilled calamari for an appetizer. For dinner,I had the Chilean Sea Bass, one son had the Veal Piccata, the other had a spaghetti dish, while my wife had the Risotto Funghi. They barely had to wash our plates when we finished if you know what I mean. The owner-host, Giovanni, was very nice and we thoroughly enjoyed our meal. We will definitely return!"

"Giovanni was amazing. Took college roommate from out of town and my daughter, who has celiac's. The food was absolutely delicious, the owner/chef made us feel like family. Best veal parmagiana and halibut we have had in years, and yummy home-made sausage. We will definitely be back"

"La Notte is a downtown Chicago caliber restaurant quietly tucked away along the Metra track in Berwyn. A must do for anyone seeking authentic Italian food in a great setting."

"We found La Notte on Open Table while stuck in traffic on the way to pick up family at Midway. We knew we wanted to find a place for dinner out near Midway before fighting the traffic back into the city. What a fantastic surprise! The service was attentive, friendly and informative. The owner also spent some time talking to us as well. The food was really amazing, authentic Italian. They take a very flexible approach to the menu letting you customize and mix/match different preparations. The waiter was amazing with our 4-year-old daughter, painting a vivid picture of the butterfly-shaped pasta (farfalle)!
I can't wait to find an excuse to go back, or maybe we'll just make a special trip from the city - it was that good!"

"We go to La Notte for the consistency in service and food quality and this time was no different. This restaurant could easily be dropped in the middle of Rush Street and compete. The food and service are a direct reflection of the owners pride in keeping this place up. You will see him serving tables and interacting with customers."

"I very much wanted to like this place, as I like the idea of these small, local eateries that are NOT chains but very much "themselves." I just thought in this case that the prices were high for the quality we got. It's a humble place in terms of the chef's abilities -- so I thought the prices should reflect the fact that it's really a pretty amateur Italian storefront restaurant."

"The staff often mentions they can make any meal to order, you do not have to be cornered by their extensive menu. I ordered for my wife, I knew their fish was fresh and asked what they had in the back and what kind of steaks. The waiter, off the top of his head, began a long list of fish from Blue Fin to fresh Alaskan Cod, after he finished with the fish, his list of steaks made my mouth water. Grain fed T-Bones, Porterhouse, Rib eye, Loins and rib roasts. I ordered the Porterhouse, medium well, with blue Cheese crumbles, baked potato with sour cream, butter and a light layer of fresh ground sea salt for my green vegetable I asked for broccoli with parmesan cheese melted on it and lightly sprinkled with fresh ground pepper. My lovely wife h"

"We happened upon La Notte Cafe because we wanted to be close to Fitzgerald's for the music, so I checked out Open Table and saw that folks seemed to really like this spot...well, as a person who dines out a lot, is a good cook himself and someone who appreciates a great meal for a good price, La Notte comes through with flying colors! The owner, his son, the staff, all awesome---friendly, helpful and full of Barese zest for life, la dolce vida indeed! Our food was really fresh, fantastic grilled calamari, unreal, seriously...I had veal picatta and it was perfect, my wife had arrabiata sauce on fresh pasta, our friends had grilled salmon and zuppe de pesce and it was to die for, I am not kidding. Look, we drove to Berwyn from Palatine...!!"
