"I began going to New Heights a couple of decades ago....heard it has gone through many changes. The gin menu and tonics are quite fun and delicious. Our server was very attentive and pleasant. Most all of the dishes were called something like mousse, but ended up being something totally delightful and different! Totally enjoyable!!"

"Everything about New Heights was incredible. The service was prompt & attentive but not intrusive. The food was gorgeous and flavorful. The heirloom root veggie salad is not to be missed. The pan seared scallops with leeks and asparagus tasted fresh- and each component was cooked just to tenderness. I ended my meal with the pomegranate sorbet...the perfect ending. Everything was sooo good, I thought about returning in the morning for brunch- but will save that treat for another visit to DC. Convenient location, too. Cheers for New Heights!"

"Our family recently had dinner at the New Heights restaurant and we were very disappointed with our overall dining experience. While the food was good, the service was nonexistent. We were basically ignored and had to ask for bread while we waited for more than an hour for our food. Additionally, we did not receive all the food that we ordered and even though we brought it to the waitress' attention we had to request not being charged for it. So disappointed, will certainly never go back, and can not recommend it to anyone. When we asked our waitress what was going on, she indicated that she had a larger party that was more important. No tip!"

"Service was the worst service I have had in years. Example: they brought the bread when they brought the bill. Food was over cooked and slightly burned. A terrible experience overall."

"Our first meal here will not be the last. The four-course prix fix dinner offerings and wine pairings were wonderfully satisfying. Heirloom root vegetable salad was lovely and refreshing. House-made fettuccine was one of the best dishes we've ever had anywhere (we've dined at terrific restaurants all over the the U.S. and Europe)--perfectly cooked, delicate pasta in light cream sauce, topped with an exquisite runny-yolk egg. The Spanish mackerel was delicious and well-prepared (the skin would have been better either crispy or omitted), and the serving size was just right for a third course entree. Husband loved his dessert mousse; my deconstructed apple pie was tasty. All the wines were well-chosen to complement each course."

"We have gone to New Heights when we are in Washington, DC for the past twenty years (perhaps longer!) It is one of our favorite restaurants and has always been a great dining experience. I can't imagine coming to Washington, DC and not going to New Heights. The food is excellent, the service is wonderful, and we are welcomed as returning guests."

"Excellent menu in a warm, pleasant environment. The presentation was artistic. Those who ordered the sweet potato soup had it poured at the table. The scallops were some of the best I have ever eaten.
The waiter was stellar - fun, knowledgable and helpful - until it was time to settle the bill. We were a group of 8 and informed him prior to ordering that we needed the bill divided for business expenses. He acknowledged his ability to do so. When the checks came, they were wrong, he got frustrated and became unpleasant. It took almost one hour to settle it. Management did not appear to assist and an otherwise wonderful experience ended on a sour note."

"The menue was not what I would call american Cuisine. My friend and I had a hard time piecing together a meal that went together. The portions were moderate at best. There is too much emphasis on being tricky; ie fried stinging nettle. I do not think i will go back given what we ultimtely paid and the abundance of other really good restaaurants nearby."

"Very disappointed with the food. Steaks advertised as filets were actually a lower quality of meat. Salads and appetizers were good but overall not good enough for a return visit."

"Dined by myself during business trip to area. Creative menu. Excellent plate appeal and flavors. Nice choices for 1/2 bottles of wine (but could add a few more heartier reds...). Pleasant and informed wait service. Would recommend without reservations."

"The food at NH was just okay and the portions way too small for the prices. One shouldn't leave a $50.00/person (appetizer, entree, glass of wine and shared dessert) restaurant hungry. My appetizer, a sweet potato soup, was poured from a coffee creamer into a bowl the size of a small trough. The amount of soup was 2 oz at best and looked lost. 2-3 spoonfuls and it was gone. My dinner (gnocchi) was meager at best, both in size and taste. My European guests, had pork based on the menu description of the dish containing sauerkraut, except none was to be found. When queried, the kitchen stated the black beans in the dish were cooked in sauerkraut - deceptive at best. NH is a "wannabe" good restaurant, but has some serious work to do to get there."

"We had reservations for New Heights on Valentine's Day. It was a mistake. The service was the worst I've had in DC. Our server never gave his name. Probably for the best, considering the service. Never received bread for the table. Twenty minutes between the first course and entree. Server never bothered an apology or explanation. Girlfriend's risotto was undercooked. She couldn't finish. Dessert tasted like it was from Safeway. Sad thing is that their Valentine's menu was prix fixe so I cannot for the life of me understand the hold up between first course and entree. Table next to us also had troubles. They were more vocal so got half off their meal and free wine. I prefer small tip and terrible review on Open Table to make my point."

"Had a wonderful tasting menu at New Heights. Innovative presentations all round, and that 69 degree egg for the carbonara was to die for!! Owner stopped by to chat and was charming and full of wonderful stories. Our server was a pro. Will definitely return and bring friends."

"Based on recent Open Table reviews we decided to take our friends (who had just moved from San Francisco) Sat 2/16. We arrived on time and were promptly seated but waited 15 mins for menus and 20 mins for water. When the waiter finally approached I mentioned we had been waiting and he not only did not apologize but made a smart remark (everyone at our table thought so) and had an attitude from then on. We waited 30 mins for drinks and received our appetizers at the 45 min mark. Truly I was watching the time as I was so embarrassed that we had brought our friends there. The food was fine but not exceptional - when one of our guests asked for a colder beer (her beer was actually warm) the waiter did not even attempt to remedy."

"It has been a while since we visited New Heights and we wanted to see what the new chef had to offer. We tried his four course "tasting" menu. Overall our experience was good with the service being quite good. My only slight complaint concerns desert. I have a sweet tooth and while I am a fan of "new and creative", a desert needs to be fulfilling and fun. I found the textures and visual appeal of the selection offered with the "menu" to be a bit lacking. That said...we will be back again soon."

"I want to like this restaurant as it is a nice ambience and has been a mainstay of finer dining in Woodley for the 16 years I have been here but everytime I visit I leave disappointed. I ate here on Valentine's night. It was busy as you would expect. They were slow seating people and slow on the service, especially with entre and dessert. My biggest issue was the pre-fix menu selections which were not all that appealing and the portion size was quite small considering $65 price for three course meal. My entre was trout and was not that tasty. My dessert was angel food cake which was not very good."

"We went to New Heights for the first time this Valentine's Day. As is common with many posh restaurants on a holiday, New Heights was offering a set menu. We decided to splurge and get the four courses with wine pairing. The total ticket for two of us was $300 total with a 20% percent tip. We loved the food and the service was impeccable. Some of the wine pairings were spot on but others were off. Overall, the set menu felt a little overpriced because the entrees were just small bites. Regardless, we'd probably still go back just to order off their normal menu."

"Went for Valentines Day dinner with the significant other and the food was amazing but the service was horrendous. Honestly, on one of the busiest days of the year you think that they would have been prepared and with a bill totaling over $250 you think that the service would have been better. Nope! The staff at New Heights didnt care for their tables and the food took way to long to prepare. Given, the food was amazing, but they also ran out of some of the main course meals (steak was one of the foods that wasn't available).
Overall, great food but not worth the price or putting up with the terrible staff."

"We love New Heights. There is a new chef and we enjoyed his menu. Valentine's Day was very busy. We ordered an IPA beer called Sisters of the Moon which my husband enjoyed. I ordered a glass of Barbera from the Piedmont region of Italy. It was a nice choice. The salmon was nicely arranged and tasty, while the squash soup with cream was very good. The strip steak was cooked the way my husband likes it and the fettuccine was really delicious. It was served as a small portion which was just right with a light sauce and pancetta. Dessert was the chocolate sponge cake;not your mother's sponge cake! Very tasty, and the coffee mousse was light and delicious. At the end of the meal, we received a red ribbon wrapped box of candy."

"Very interesting food. Surprising combinations of tastes, textures and colors. Nice presentations. Something you don't find very often around DC. The whole experience would benefit from more attentive service, though. Everybody was extremely nice and warm, and the overall atmosphere was very pleasant. Nonetheless our entrees arrived when the empty dishes of the appetizers were still on the table. We had to ask and wait for silverware before every course. Not a big deal, especially on a very busy night. Still, something you don't expect in a refined, expensive restaurant. We are definitely going back."

"A Monday night so it was very quiet--which was good. "Ambiance" might have rated higher had there been more people. The food was very good...some dishes better than others, and some absolutely superb. No question that I'll go back again. Presentation would have been improved by more upscale plates and cutlery."

"New Heights did not disappoint. The food was simply magnificent. A creative and well thought out menu that delivered in every way. After dinner, we headed downstairs to the bar and to the best gin and tonics in the city. Nicole is an amazing mixologist and is also very personable. I will definitely be back."

"What a surprise. This was an extraordinary restaurant from A-Z. Many DC area restaurants depend on food critics hype. This young Chef delivers excellence in a full circle. Superb. I invited out of town guest but worried it might not meet up to my expectations. It went beyond. We literally licked the plates. The baked apple dessert was extreme in its delicacy and deliciousness. I hope they can keep that momentum, as I intend to recommend to many. Delicate and competitive with the headline Chefs of Washington."

"The Grouper entree was excellent, as was the duck. Desserts were disappointing. We ordered the apple (I think it was supposed to be poached) with caramel. We expected a whole apple, but instead were served two paper thin slices of apple. The chocolate cake was two small mounds of cake that was closer to a chocolate-flavored sponge cake than what I think of as chocolate cake. Appetizers that we had, poached pear salad and a salmon appetizer were OK, nothing special."
