Artichoke Cafe
The Artichoke Cafe was reopened in 1989 by Pat and Terry Keene. Pat, who was formally trained in New York City, is executive chef and Terry has 30 years experience in restaurant management. Their dedication to the best in food, wine, and service has made this 120 seat restaurant one of Albuquerque's finest dining spots.
Its downtown location on Route 66 in the Historic Huning Highland/EDO District, cozy modern decor and rotating art exhibits add panache and charm to its ambience. The food is a mix of French, Italian, and creative American, using only the finest ingredients.

"So glad to find fine restaurants in Albuquerque. We took my husband's family for mother's day and enjoyed it very much. The only thing I would change is decreasing the salt a little on some of the dishes, other than that it was a great experience."

"After dining at Artichoke for over 15 years, this was our first disappointing experience. My companion and I both ordered steak, which turned out tastelss and tough. Absolutely laughable to think the price they charge for that kind of meal. It will be a long, long time before we ever set foot in that restaurant."

"Complete disappointment. Brought my 87 year old Mother and 90 year old Father for Mother's Day. No entres were available (zero), and only four Brunch items were available. Of those, the Quiche was sold out by our 1:15 PM reservation time. Parking was an issue, although I was on crutches And my parents were obviously a little unsteady. It cost us $240 before tip for two Cesar salads, two Charcuterie plates, two French Onion Soups, three boiled ham brunch items, and one steamed Artichoke plus drinks- no wine.
Service was good. The rest was pathetic. Will never return. Complete poor value and based on the availability of menu items, also poorly managed."

"This restaurant was highly recommended. Did not dissapoint! Our appetizers and dinner were excellent. I had the chicken special and my husband had the lamb. We stopped in on the way to the airport.
We had a key lime dessert and a chocolate dessert that was their special for the day. It was incredible. Kudos to the pastry chef!!

"Our dinner was very average. Not terrible but not great. I was very uninspired by the menu choices. I usually find a couple of choices that really jump at me on a menu, but here it took me way to many reads of the menu to choose. First time ever my wife decided before me. We both agreed that the dessert was the best part of meal."

"We ate on a slow Monday night at 5:30pm and the food was very good. Service was slow, it took a while for our server to realize we had been seated and then we waited for the artichokes, waited for our soup....and then our entree came around. I can see a restaurant wanting to space the dishes but it was a bit too long. I am a big fan of fast service so my expectations may just have been too high, but as I said we were there during a slow period. Food was very good."

"After years of saying "next time we visit Albuquerque we should go to the Artichoke Cafe" we finally did! My grandmother is close to 94 and in a wheelchair, but she was accomodated by the hostess with ease. Grammie downed her steak frites and really enjoyed it. The food was very good and we enjoyed our lunch outing immensely."

"The food was ok. I ordered the steak with fries and I got this itty bitty 6 oz steak with two handfuls of French fries covering the whole plate. It took me two minutes to eat the streak. There were too many fries. I had to stop off for a burger on the way home. My dinner was $20. Very disappointing wedding anniversary dinner. We won't be back."

"We had another excellent meal at the Artichoke. We had a beef tenderloin, pumpkin ravioli stuffed with butternut squash, salmon, and the Artichoke's version of "bangers and mash" (lamb sausage and a lamb rib with pureed cauliflower and kimchee). As an appetizer, we had their signature roast garlic with feta and grilled peppers. The service was also meticulous."

"I had an absolutely wonderful time while dining at the Artichoke Café! My waitress was very nice as well as the rest of the staff. The menu is diverse, so even picky eaters can find something they like. The Seared Ahi Tuna was great and the duck was delicious! I really liked the mood that was set in the restaurant; the lights were dim without being too dark. I had a great time and I hope to done here soon again. I definitely recommend trying the Artichoke Café next time you're in downtown Albuquerque."

"My filet was melt-in your-mouth tender and cooked to perfection (medium rare). We sat in the "back room" which was much quieter than in front. Really like the fact that parking is easy and there is an attendant on duty...not always the case with restaurants in Abq. One of our favorites."

"We go to Artichoke quite a bit. Seated Very Promptly. They have a great parking attendant(s) that help you park and keep an eye on your car. Something happened to our order for both our appetizer and the main course. We were there for almost an hour before food showed up. HOWEVER, our waiter took full responsibility and COMP'D OUR APPS, DESSERT, COFFEE AND BROUGHT A MORE EXPENSIVE BOTTLE OF WINE BUT CHARGED US FOR ONLY WHAT WE ORDERED! I was with my beautiful wife and we had a babysitter until late, so we were in no hurry. Our waiter was very apologetic about the delay. When the food came, it was spectacular (and hot!). Generally, the food is prompt, so I chalk this up to 'one bad night'. We'll surely go back."

"Wow! this was my second visit in 4 days while visiting in the area. Loved the food the first time, but found the service slow. This time everythhing was outstanding. "First time at Artichokes, and we had a wonderful dinner. Then had a large "Restaurant Week' menu and everything I wanted was on it. The portions were slightly smaller, but plenty of food, and the food was great. We were given the choice of a table in the front dinning room or the quieter back dinning room, which I appreciated. "Our waiter was very good, but the food came out very slow. This was surprising since we were there by 5:00 pm because we had theater tickets. My lamb came overcooked even though I was told it would be pink. In fairness, the waiter offered to replace it, but we didn't have time. So they took a glass of wine off our check. Very considerate of the restaurant. They tried to make it right. And I would certainly go back--I just wouldn't reorder a lamb dish. Overall, a very good experience."

"Overall positive experience, as expected from the Artichoke. Food was delicious and presented beautifully. I was meeting a work associate for lunch and the only problem was very slow service for a lunch meal. We waited 15-20 minutes between having our soup bowls removed and the arrival of our entrees. Long after entree was finished (and during which time I would have liked coffee) the waitress returned and asked if we wanted anything else."

"Overall, a good dining experience. Varied menu with a good wine list. Not gourmet, but good quality, albeit expensive. The chef didn't seem to know what "medium rare" was. I ordered filet mignon mr; my table mate ordered the lamb mr, but both were rare. For the price (I paid $32 for the filet, but the menu said it was $30) the quality of the beef should have been better -- too much gristle for a small filet."

"It had been a number of years since my last visit to the AC. I can say at the time I was less than impressed and really thought twice about giving the place a second chance.
My recent experience was very good to outstanding and I would highly recommend the AC as a great place for date night and or special occasions. The food and atmosphere were excellent and the service was good."

"Artichoke Cafe never disappoints! Warm and cozy, great food and service every time we visit. This time, my husband and I enjoyed a quiet dinner for two the night before Valentine's Day but we have had the same service with a larger group from work. Service is personal and attentive without being intrusive. Lots of great things on the appetizer menu but I seem to always opt for the artichoke as they don't appear on restaurant menus often. Had every intention of having dessert but couldn't finish my steak frites so maybe next time..."

"We were seated in a small room away from the main dining area and bar area. It was very intimate and cozy. There were four tables in there and each only had two diners each. Everyone had a different waiter so it seemed to be a more personalized service. The meal was excellent. We both had crabcakes, Ceasar Salad and filet. All presented with flair and warm foods warm, cold foods cold. And I loved that each course they gave completely clean utensials! We will definitely be returning to Artichoke Cafe!"
