"Great food in this wonderfully energectic restaurant. Every bite is rich in flavour and there are so many delicious options it really is difficult to make a decision. "The food here continues to be a delight and a revelation each time we go, all consistently luscious and arresting but with enough variety it never becomes routine. The Chiliquiles for comfort, grasshoppers for adventure, corn fungus for the heck of it and carnitas, yucatan barbeque and on and on for the sheer pleasure of it. The tiny plates make sharing a soemtimes complicated thing and more help from the waiters would have been appreciated. In fact, any help from the service staff would have been appreciated. The service was really poor. We waited and waited for everything, but mostly for our waiter to come by, to come back to take our drink order, our food order, refil our drinks. We never did get one grain of the salt we asked for."

"I'm not referring to the ocean; instead their signature margarita "Oyamel." No salt rim needed, the foam topping fills the need. Each sip begins with salt air followed by a fabulous margarita. Outstanding! The small pate format allows many samples and overall quality was superior. The only down side was the Papas. Taco choices are varied and exceptional. Salsa was very good and the guacamole excellent. It's a very energetic place where young professionals gather around the bar sipping Drink and devouring the guacamole, while you may see a senator, or two in our case, and a cabinet secretary in dining room. Quite the experience."

"The drinks at Oyamel are absolutely amazing! Many of them use infused ingredients, so you can't even taste the alcohol. The food (inventive, authentic Mexican) is also really good, though I found it to be a bit heavy. So I would recommend eating at Oyamel during cooler months rather than warmer months; and drinks any time of year of course. Great service and first-rate table-side guac!"

"We went to Oyamel to celebrate Mother's Day. The Mexican tapas were great - a nice play on traditional mexican dishes. Cocktails were also very good. The staff went out of their way to ensure we enjoyed our dinner, and even got a taxi for us at the end."

"Over numerous visits over several years this continues to be our favorite restaurant. Highly recommended, everything is created with such care and explosion of flavors in your mouth, from the drinks to the guacamole. Every once in a while we find a menu item that we personally don't like that much, but since the menu changes somewhat along with the specials there are always new exciting things to try. Can't wait to go back and continue to share this experience with our friends."

"It helps to read the tapas-style menu (in hard to read typeface) online before you go because of the many choices. Also, the noise level makes it difficult to hear the waiters describe specials. Service is fast, sometimes too fast because there is an urgency to get people out the door quickly to their next event, such as theater or Verizon Center event. The still-warm chips and made-at-the-table guacamole are excellent, esp. when combined with a specialty drink.I"

"The tableside guacamole was PHENOMENAL! The chips cannot be described. My husband is still talking about them. They were so delicious. I tried the white peach margarita. "When I arrived, my friends had already been sat, though the reservation was in my name.we ordered margaritas for starters and guacamole! This was the first time that my friends would eat Mexican food at Oyamel (not sure they had had Mexican food at all before). Our waiter gave us helpful hints on how many portions we should get per person and we order the tacos and some meatball. All was very good and also the wine we chose for dinner...
After eating a little bit too much we didn't have dessert.
After all it was a good experience, nothing really outstanding but also all well pretty smoothly! By the time our time was up we were done with dinner and ready to go!"

"Oyamel, like so many other "small plates" restaurants, needs to understand that some people need to eat reasonable, as opposed to precious amounts of food. I had a plate of ceviche that was delicious - but absolutely miniscule - for $12. I had a total of three small dishes - and then went home and had dinner because I was still hungry. Some larger, more substantial plates (they don't have to be main course size) should be offered. BTW, I work out regularly and am in very good shape - I am not overweight, but I do have a healthy appetite. That said, the dishes I did have were excellent. The service, tho, was subpar. Our waiter showed a lack of patience because we didn't order immediately; drinks ordered 1/2 way thru dinner arrived late."

"Server really went out of his way to point out specials, keep the glasses filled, and was always right at hand when we needed him. Hard to talk, however. Quite noisy. But for very good Mexican/Spanish tapas type food, despite the noise, this is the place."

"Went here for my birthday and had a blast! Food was fantastic, though small portions, ordering a variety of items was also good in exploring the menu. Im normally not a fan of mojitos but their mojitos are amazing, no mint leaves and all foam!!! A great twist to a traditional mojito!"

"I can't say enough about this restaurant. The food was incredible, not your usual hodge podge of tex mex... this is really creative, outstanding fare, drawn from the Yucatan peninsula and Mexican chefs who understand gourmet food... The crispy Brussels sprouts were the best I've ever had. The ceviche are also incredible. The drinks are all original creations and rate very high, not to mention that you can get their margaritas in pitchers. Our server was great, Alex... He was not only knowledgeable about the food but also prepared several tables worth of fresh guacamole. Prices are reasonable, not cheap but the value is high. Meats were perfectly done, we also had fish tacos and a really great cactus salad. Please GO THERE!"

"Oyamel was great! However, of the 3 Jose Andres restaurants in DC, it's my least favorite. The food was good and there was a lot of variety but it was all very heavy which isn't always great for tapas. The plate sizes were good though, and the drink list was great. Don't skip the tres leches!"

"The food is excellent, as one would expect in a Jose Andres restaurant. The ambiance is poor for dining though. The restaurant design is festive and interesting, but they have crowded in far too many tables into a relatively small and noisy space. There's little space between tables and conversation requires near-shouting. The service is personable. There's a lot of hovering, however. Plates are cleared before finished and flipping the table is obviously a priority. If you have to have Jose Andres take on noveau Mexican, this is your place. Look elsewhere, though, if you want to enjoy your meal and have a conversation that does not make you hoarse by the end of the meal."
