"After reading all of the accolades regarding this restaurant, we were anxious to give it a try. Unfortunately, we were quite disappointed in the ambience, which didn't quite resemble the photos in magazines as being upscale. The noise level was more on the 'very noisey' side, more than 'energetic'. It is understandable that the focus is on the food, wine, and service, rather than non-essential frills; even a table cloth, with real napkins (not paper squares), would have been nice. Overall, this restaurant is as good as claimed for the chef's talents."

"This is the fifth time I have been to Reef and as usual I was not disappointed. Food was excellent, well presented and super tasty. Good value for money given it is fresh seafood. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone who likes seafood and good wine."

"After we waded through the extensive wine list and grabbed a pinot grigio.
For appetizers we had a salmon ceviche preparation and a crab cake. The salmon ceviche was a great app. Especially when combined with the grapefruit and chili pepper side.

For our main dishes, my wife picked the scallops and the waiter picked the grouper for me. Our waiter also recommended the charred brussel sprouts. All of these were good, the charred brussel sprouts were incredible!
For dessert, we both left it completely to the waiter, he brought us a molten chocolate cake and the blueberry financier.
The financier was unique and we agreed the best.

"Reef was great from start to finish. Excellent apps to uniquely delicious seafood entrees ended with phenomenal desserts. I am from Nashville, so a refreshing seafood experience is always welcomed. The beet and watercress ravioli with ricotta was wonderful. And how could I forget the Jalepeno jelly that accompanied the rolls! I had the Redfish on a halfshell which came with fried macaroni and cheese. Every bite was great. The cheesecake with honey gelato was the only way to top off the meal.
Great food for reasonable price. Incredible wine selection. Very good wait staff. Go eat at Reef."

"Food was pretty good, but it did not meet the expectations I had coming in. So I may have put undue pressure on the restaurant to perform. The service was not that great, but being mother's day weekend, I understand that we weren't going to be attended to as well. For instance, my water was probably refilled twice and the waiter missed the other people at my table's waters when refilling mine. The food turnaround time was good though and we did get our food pretty promptly, which was nice. Overall, I think I came in with grander expectations on the food based on other people's reviews and that wasn't fair for the restaurant to meet those lofty expectations."

"Husband and I went to celebrate our anniversary. Everything we had was so good (the tuna and snapper practically melted in our mouths), and I love that the ingredients are locally sourced and seasonal. Atmosphere was fun and energetic, and there was a wonderful cross section of ages and stages represented in the clientele. Definitely recommend for anyone looking for a night out - whether you're celebrating a milestone (like we were) or just celebrating because its dinner time! Highly recommend."

"This is a seafood gem. The food is superb, as well as the service. We travel to Houston from the Hill Country north of San Antonio several times a year, and love the restaurants. Reef will become a regular stop whenever we are there. Great bar and the wine selection is fabulous! This is the way a seafood restaurant should be. The guys at the prep table at the entrance are really entertaining. Great fun to watch pros at work."

"We visited Reef at the recommendation of our son, currently a college student in Houston. Everything was excellent, from the jalapeno jelly to the milkshakes and everything in between. I would say it was the best seafood restaurant we have ever had the pleasure of dining at. And those brussels sprouts! Our waiter was delightful. We are looking forward to our return trip to Houston in August and will certainly dine at Reef again. Next time we will purchase more jalapeno jelly and I will be sure NOT to pack the jars securely in my carry on, a huge oversight on my part! I just wanted to get them home safely and totally disregarded TSA regulations. Needless to say they were confiscated, all the more reason to return to Reef!"

"This is my second review. Perhaps my first review was deleted because it wasn't complimentary enough. We started with the steamed mussels and snapper carpaccio, followed by redfish on the half shell, crispy skin snapper, and roasted grouper. The best was the Crispy Skin Snapper, my Fried Macaroni and Cheese was bland, needed more oomph. Dessert was fabulous, especialy the Vietnamese Coffee Tart.
Service was good until the server neglected to apply the gift certificate to the bill. Unfortunately, we didn't catch the mistake right away. Reef was closed on Sunday so I called to speak to a manager on Monday. I was told the manager was in a meeting and would return my call. He didn't. Called back again but manager couldn't credit my account"

"This restaurant has become one of our most favorite places to go before the symphony or after an afternoon play. Service is always excellent. Food great. We do many of the appetizers for our main course. This is a different looking kind of restaurant for this part of the country which makes it fun. A great finish is always the 'not for minors' milkshake. Order 2. Thanks for the experience."

"The menu changes daily based on the available local fish and seafood. The quality and freshness of each main course reflected this. Each dish was perfectly cooked bringing out the essence of each fish. The wine list is quite comprehensive and priced extremely low. The service was good and she make an excellent recommendation regarding the wine pairing. We went a bit early and as a result the noise level was fairly low. Since it was our first time at the restaurant, the manage provide a complimentary after dinner drink to thank us for coming. Very welcoming. What is not to love about this restaurant!"

"The very best seafood in Houston, bar none! Fresh, creative, simple seafood...none of that mediocre entrees that are always overwrought with fish topped with "oscar" lump crab meat...Swordfish is back with a vengeance (best I've had), not too mention the crab carbonara! The complimentary desert is a fitting treat of added value and service. Young, hip atmosphere in mid 20th century Pontiac showroom turned haute cuisine! Be cool, be found at the reef!! Great service, superb architectural transparent wine room...Truly EXCELLENT and always repeatable!"

"For New Yorkers in Houston for a short visit, our party was thrilled with Reef. Food was excellent-- desserts, especially the cheesecake, were among the best we've had.
The wine list absolutely blew us away. Not just the breadth and scope of the wine selections, but by the prices-- where was the markup? Closer examination of the wine list revealed the owners despise the typical restaurant model when it comes to wine and instead want their diners to feel free to drink good wine. We took advantage with a bottle of Nicholas Feuillate Rose Champagne, which routinely retails for over $40.00, and were only charged $57.00. Next was a Cakebread Sauvignon Blanc for $45.00, another bargain.
Must mention the noise level, which was extreme"

"Eight of us went last Saturday night for my Fiancés birthday and we all had a fantastic night. I received the table I requested and the atmosphere of the restaurant set a great mood for the rest of the evening. The food was perfect, everyone enjoyed their meal. Our servers name was Wes and he was outstanding, very attentive and informative in addition to a great attitude. Reef also provided the table with a complimentary birthday treat. I will definitely be going back and recommending to friends."
