Nestled in the Landmark Building in The Historic Third Ward, Coquette Cafe serves up authentic bistro fare in warm, casual surroundings. Coquette is the kind of place where guests can pop in any time of day for everything from French Onion Soup and Flatbread Pizza to Crisp Provincal Roast Chicken. Whether it's cozying up to the bar for a glass of provincial French wine or exclusively brewed French ale, or having dinner or a small banquet in one of its three bustling dining areas, Chefs and Co- Owners Nick Burki and Chris Hatleli and their wonderful staff are eager to accommodate one's every need. Although brand new in February of 1999, Coquette's informal decor blends well with its vintage surroundings. The dark wood, mirrored back bar and glowing gold walls invite you in to experience top quality and unassuming fare that you might find in the home kitchens of French grandmothers.

"We had Mother's Day lunch at Coquette Cafe this year. They were EXTREMELY accommodating, even to the point of possibly adding 3 more to our party at last minute, even though it didn't need to be. Called 15 min before reservation to let them know we would be 15 late because Church ended late :) We were greeted promptly. Within 5 min of sitting down our beverage order was taken. Food arrived promptly. The quality of the food was impeccable. I had chicken pesto sandwich with phenomenal French fries, something I rarely eat! Everyone loved their food. The waitress was very attentive & personable. When asked if she added gratuity she said she forgot. Asked what percentage was, indicated 18%. I told her we gave her 21%. That says it all!!!"

"My husband and I enjoyed a lovely dinner at Coquette Cafe this past weekend. The menu had a nice variety and the prices were very affordable for the high quality food and service. We appreciated how the restaurant was divided into separate eating areas. This helped with a quieter space compared to other restaurants. Our waitress was professional, helpful and friendly. I highly recommend Coquette Cafe for a special celebration or for an evening out with a friend/spouse."

"Coquette is always a good call. On this visit I had the trout and it was both fabulous and complemented with very tasty accouterments. My dining companion had the grilled hanger steak, done to perfection and one of their most popular entrees. The service was extraordinary. Our server, Zoe, was especially helpful in helping us decide on our entrees and made the evening extra special. As a side-note, two friends showed up at the restaurant as we were about half-way through our main course and the staff sat them with us, served their meal apace and made the entire experience seamless. Very professional."

"I thought the Ravioli dish I ordered was very dry but my husband ordered the eggplant casserole and that was very good. "Love the feel of this place. Met a friend for brunch and was impressed with the variety of menu items. Interestingly, neither of us ended up ordering breakfast items, but my roasted veggie sandwich was very tasty and friend's hamburger was amazing. Terrific spot to enjoy a lazy Sunday. One of the best things is a parking lot in the rear that is available after 5pm and on weekends."

"The atmosphere was really great, loved the space.. On the food front , they over-complicated the dishes. Instead of good French Bistro cooking, with simple ingredients, they tried to put too much into the dishes and it was not successful. I had the hanger steak, expected hand-cut FF, not McDonald's fair, and the sauce on the steak over-powered the steak itself, and way too much sauce. My table mates were okay with their food, but overly impressed.
We were visiting Milwaukee, and will not choose this restaurant on a return trip."

"The food exceeded my expectations. As a starter, we ordered mussels which were just right. They tasted perfectly fresh, in a broth that was not too garlicky. My main course was the hanger steak with french fries. I have tried a lot of french fries in my life, these were tops, crisp but not too hard outside, fresh potato taste inside, not too salty. The steak was dabbed in a mushroom-red wine reduction that was so good, rich in wine taste, that I soaked up the last drop with my bread. The meat melted in your mouth.
Three other observations: The light at the tables could be better. I like to see what I eat. The wine menu needs some work - more selections, some descriptions for those who don't know the labels well."

"My wife and I were very pleased with Coquette. The food was interesting and the service was great. Wine list so-so. I chose a $9 glass of Roussillon, and was disappointed. My wife chose a Pinot Grigio, which had a very weak finish. But the food was great!"

"All was as expected. We were entertaining guests and having been here before chose to bring them there for a great place for food and ambiance. They loved it and all enjoyed our meals and topped it off with Key Lime Pie. YUMMMMMMMMMMM"

Customer's had the short ribs and onion soup and were very happy.
Another had one of the flat pizssa and equally happy.
I always have the travelers. The sauce on the salmon was delicious, but overpowered the salmon, I thought. I wanted to drink the sauce the mussles were in, but thought that was tacky. Used the fries to get as much sauce as I thought was polite."

"We have been here several times over the years. The hanger steak with frites is one of the best dishes you'll find anywhere in Milwaukee. Great ambiance and friendly service. Great wines by the glass with generous "Milwaukee" pours."
