Dawat is a fine north Indian restaurant that also serves a couple of south Indian dishes as well. Located in Midtown East, Dawat is one of Manhattan’s finest Indian restaurants that serves an eclectic array of interesting dishes.
"I had the chicken curry (great) and my gf tried the lamb curry (fantastic). Do yourself a favor and try the corn chaat - it's my new favorite Indian appetizer.
Excellent service - close to the level of one of those uber-expensive places like Asiate. Friendly and available without being pushy. Good suggestions (really - those curries were fantastic).
We arrived 20 minutes past our 6:30p Saturday reservation but were seated immediately. And they listened when we said we needed to make a show - we were out of there after just an hour."

"The food was scrumptious and service wonderful. The unexpected surprise was that parking in the lit on 2nd ave between 55th and 54th Streets was FREE!"

"A patron near us was shouting throughout the entire meal into his cell phone. This is never allowed in upscale restaurants. He refused to stop after repeated requests. You should have the same rule as all other quality restaurants.
NO CELL PHONES"

"We were a little disappointed that there was no lunch special on the weekend and that the food was not stellar, despite a pretty hefty price tag. We had taken our friend there for her 50th birthday celebration, and she enjoyed herself, but my husband and I have had much better meals at Dawat in the past."

"Excellent Indian food in a beautiful setting. We found the restaurant via Opentable. The reviews captured the quality of the food and the comfortable setting. Highly recommended."

"My husband and I have been to this restaurant so many times over the years and the place has not changed in terms of high quality and variety in menu items, impeccable service, and the classic and serene ambiance. It is always reliable, as it was when I visited the restaurant for lunch last week with a business colleague. Dawat is one of our all time favorite Indian restaurants -- for dinner, for lunch or just to have a glass of wine and snacks after the theater."

"We were very happy with the selection including the specials for Frenched rack of lamb chops cooked in a tandoori oven and a curried chicken in a very fragrent sauce of mixed spices like cardamon, coriander, clove and other spices. The ion and pepper bread was delicious as were out appetizers. The list of wines by the glass are short but they we satisfactory. The only disappointment was the Kulfi ice cream was strangely Americanized and cream and less like traditional Kulfi. I would be happy to come back anytime - and try a different dessert!"
