"Unfortunately, the hostess we had wasn't very friendly. We were about 10-15 minutes late and she didn't seem pleased about it, even though I called to let them know we were running late. When seating us she implied that we would need to rush the dinner and she just seemed unprofessional on handling the whole manner. However, the waiter we had out shinned the hostess and we soon forgot about her. He was super friendly and very helpful. The food was awesome and I would go back."

"gyu-kaku has 3 great happy hour periods and with a gold card you can get it all day from sunday to thursday. you seriously can't complain about $8 kirin pitchers and the prices for the food is super cheap.

"This is a great place to get great tasting food as well as your grilling fix. I love grilling food but hate prepping it & the clean up. However, Gyu-kaku does both for you so all you have to worry about is cooking the food perfectly. I highly recommend happy hour, which makes the menu pretty reasonable."

"I thought the service was really friendly and helpful in explaining the menu for first timers. They were also very good at getting us refills in beverages and putting our orders in even though they weren't our server. The food was also very tasty, especially liking the different meats and happy hour prices."

"This was a successful Mother's Day dinner! The staff was very friendly and the food was great. We did arrive early and the only flaw is there were not enough waiting seats outside of the restaurant (which made it difficult for my parents who are senior citizens and my grandmother). The noise level was very loud but this is definitely a good place to go drink and eat pupu's. My boyfriend REALLY enjoyed it for his first time and my parents were grateful. It was a different scene but if you're parents are more of the quite and enjoy the relaxing scene, I would recommend to go somewhere else. This place is fun and a go to place with friends."

"Didn’t start off right when the host tried to sit five of us by the door way one chair sticking out; We were planning on ordering a lot of food and this small table wasn’t going to work.
The couple in front of us sat table enough for 6 should have gotten our table for four.

"Their "lunchtime" happy hour was till 6:30, so they had specialty items that were marked down to happy hour prices, so it was a great deal for dinner. Service was friendly and attentive, and the good --both quality as well as taste -- was great. Enjoyed it very much. My friend who recommended we eat there was surprised we could get a reservation, and said it is usually a mad house, so the early dining was definitely a plus, price-wise and experience-wise. Very nice, and open table reservation made it very easy."

"Everything went well! Celebrated a birthday, went very well. Only thing that was a bit bothersome was the greeters attitude. Waited a bit longer than usual because they got our reservation time mixed up. After that, everything was awesome! Food was very delicious & server was excellent!!"

"I had a reservation for 9:30 PM. We did not get seated until 10:05PM. Unfortunately it is common knowledge that even if you make an appointment at Gyukaku it doesn't make a difference on your wait time. I love the food and the experience once you get seated. I might try the one in Kaneohe next time because rumor has it there is no wait."

"Little disappointed this time. Enjoyed the food as usual. Hostess was very nice. Waiters forgot two orders, milk for my son and food item. Made reservations online and put that it was my wife's birthday. Would have been fine that they didn't do anything for her except that they sang Happy Bday for the customer in the booth next to us. The saving grace was them letting us order from the Happy Hour menu that just finished. The staff is very courteous and friendly so that helps too! C grade this time won't stop me from returning."

"If it's raining and you don't have a reservation I suggest you don't go. There's only minimal awning available and the hostess will tell you that you can't wait inside (even if it's a half hour wait), so be forewarned - YOU WILL GET WET!
Also hopefully they have asked the nice Caucasian boy to shower before he comes to work because he reeks of B/O. It's an immediate appetite suppressant. You can smell him from several tables away.
Overall, the food is great and the atmosphere can be pleasant, but if you come here on a bad day, everything just goes down the tubes. No fun waiting 17 minutes for a check because they forgot you were sitting in the back during lunch and no one came around."

"Food was good, but reservations didn't help in getting seated at the time I requested. I had to wait about half an hour from when I checked in to get seated. And then I was finally offered the bar/group table to sit around strangers even though I requested a private table. We finally just sat at the group table."
