Bistro 7 is an elegant, food-first American BYO bistro located in the heart of Philadelphia’s historic Old City section. Chef/Owner Michael O’Halloran relies on a network of local, organic farmers for the pristine ingredients that form the basis for his eclectic American bistro dishes, and the ever changing menu reflects the best that the season has to offer. The understated, minimalist décor features white linen tablecloths, filigreed heirloom flatware and graceful stemware, and the open kitchen provides an intimate glimpse of the chefs at work. Try the 5 course, $35 Chef’s Tasting Menu (available Tuesday through Thursday) and see why critics have called Bistro 7 the "Jackie O. of the Philadelphia BYOB scene"
"The menu was very interesting, and the dishes were spectacular. I hadn't been to Bistro 7 in a while, but will make sure that it is on our list of restaurants that we simply love."

"We went to Bistro 7 for a friend's birthday dinner and, unfortunately, we won't be going back. Service was incredibly slow and the food was ok but nothing special. Definitely not worth the price."

"This was the third time we've been to Bistro 7. Again, I think the food is outstanding and its presentation is great. The service is attentive without being intrusive. It would be hard to improve on the cooking. The cook fortunately has a light hand with the salt. Never the less, the flavors of the food were quite fine. Many restaurants are a bit freer with salt than I would prefer. A word of warning for those not from Philadelphia - It is BYOB. I did not find this to be a problem since I was prepared."

"A great spot! Wonderful food. The menu always has choices that include complex flavors that have been chosen and prepared with skill. Wait staff are attentive and helpful. When I go, I always winder how I could have forgotten to go for a while. It's clear that a chef is doing what he loves and we benefit."

"At first, staff seemed very pleasant on the phone, very accommodating, but when we arrived and asked for a different table than the one first offered, the manager seemed to us to be quite put out. Also, we had some dietary restrictions, and the menu did not contain much flexibility for us unfortunately. What we were able to order was very well prepared. While at first our waiter seemed a bit attitudinal in dealing with our menu ingredient questions, he noticed that we were going to the theatre and gave us the 10% discount that theatre members receive from the restaurant. It was very thoughtful and appreciated. I'd go back. It was a pretty place and the food was delicious, but if you have restrictions, this may not be the place to come."

"The gnocchi, foie gras and duck were outstanding. My girlfriend ordered the short ribs, which were good, but somewhat lackluster in terms of flavor. Everything else - service and ambience - was excellent, and the duck was exquisite."

"All the dishes we tried were inventive and tasty. The wait staff was attentive but not bothersome. The dining room could use some ambiance - lower lighting would help. Overall, I would recommend this restaurant for a nice, quiet date."

"Warm greeting as we walked in. Our server Ricky was very accommodating. We wanted everything coursed out one at a time in a very specific order so we could share and it was seamless. Food was perfect. The Striped Bass and Short Ribs were amazing and the Gnocchi was so good we had 2 orders. The other patrons were very friendly too. We ended up trading some wine with the table next to us. If you're under 40 I would suggest going later. For our 630 res we were the only people under 50."

"Really great food. Service was OK, not terrific. Not clear that it's byob, but maybe I just wasn't reading closely enough. :) This was a terrific spot for dinner with an "old" friend - we really enjoyed it. Thanks"

"Food is excellent. Small menu, very French, nice portions. Servers were polite and well trained, though not overly friendly/seemed like they were just going through the motions. Enjoyed the ambiance - lively but could still have a conversation. Would definitely return."

"The chef , Michael O'Halloran has stepped up his game. We went for the 10 course tasting menu, and every course was a wonderful experience! The fresh goats milk gnocchi with butternut squash was fabulous - melted on your tongue. The escargot were perfection - and I am not even a huge lover of snails."

"Bistro 7 is a gem. I have not been to Bistro 7 in a while, and every time I go, I am so pleasantly surprised as to how wonderful the food is. We went during Restaurant Week, and the choices on the menu made it difficult to decided what to order. The portions were perfect, and more importantly everything was prepared to perfection."

"We were seated right next to the door on a freezing night. We were told it wouldn't be cold and that there was a space heater. It was absolutely cold and we were uncomfortable. Appetizers were good but there was a long wait for entrees which were bland and underwhelming. Disappointing experience."

"Looking in from the outside you would never guess this place is as amazing as it was. went there during restaurant week and it was somewhat crowded, Had a reservation and was seated right away. Food was portioned small however when the meal was over i was completely full. The only bad part is that it is a tiny place and the tables are kind of on top of one and other and you can hear your neighbors ENTIRE conversation. However this place was so good with great service that it wont keep me from returning. Also it is a BYOB which is always nice."

"We don't often treat ourselves to such fine dining, but we chose this place for Restaurant Week based on the review in Philadelphia Magazine and it's BYOB status. The food was excellent. It was all we could do to not lick the plates clean. I noticed that there are mixed reviews about the noise level... It is a very small venue, focused on good food and customer experience. I suppose, in such close quarters, the ambiance can change from night to night. We were there on a Wednesday night. It was packed, and you could feel the energy in the room of people enjoying themselves, but we were able to have a nice quiet conversation. My only complaint was that after a lovely meal with attentive service, it took about 15 minutes for the check to come."
