"We have eaten at Nacional 27 a number of times, often bringing several guests. I'm not sure we will be back. The music level was probably great for dancing, but not so good for table conversation. I personally don't care for spicy food. The waitress assured me that "nothing here is spicy." Yet both the appetizer (which I got because of the plantain, but absolutely could not taste any plantain) and my steak entree were, for me, too spicy to enjoy. I'm sure others would have liked it, but for me it went way beyond just well-seasoned. To be fair, the waitress had the cost of my entree taken off our bill, which I did not ask for and was extremely generous. But I did not have this problem in past visits, with an older menu."

"The restaurant overall was awesome. I went for my bday. However, our server was horrible. She overcharged us several times, went missing for over 30 minutes, and was just not good."

"My wife and I booked this restaurant based on the open table reviews and are so glad we did. We ate early on a Friday evening, so it was pretty quiet, but the food, service and atmosphere were all right on. My wife had a special margarita made with rhubard, and said it was one of the best margariata's she has ever had. The guacamole was creamy and delicious when paired with the warm tortilla chips. We shared a "flight" of ceviche, where we were very impressed with the quality and presentation of the 4 appetizers. The roast suckling pig in adobo sauce was absolutely heavenly, and was the best pork dish we have ever experienced.
We highly recommend this restaurant and can't wait to return when we are back in Chicago!"

"The food was fantastic, we had the ceviche sampler as a start and were amazed! Our server was very friendly, attentive and knowledgable, the only issue was there were a few large birthday parties that were full of loud women and the music was turned up to the point where we couldn't even hear each other, and this was before the dance floor opened."

"This is a great restaurant that turns into a nightclub after 11pm. Our reservation was for 8:30p and when the night activities started we were able to keep our table and just enjoy. The food was great the tapas were amazing (get the BBQ lamb tacos) and the entrée was equally tasty. I'll definitely be going back soon."

"This restaurant was amazing! The food was absolutely delicious!! I loved the shrimp adobo and the coconut rice was yum! The music was great and very romantic setting. "Wife and I went for our 5 yr anniversary, we had a newborn who we couldnt leave at home. The staff was really accomodating and very discreet. Very knowledgeable about their menu options and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. We come here on occasion for the high class salsa atmosphere."

"It was my 1st visit. Although the food was interesting and flavorful, the place itself needs some updating. The chairs had holes in them, floors needed a good cleaning, service was slow, but I realize it's not always the waiters fault. I'm surprised the "Lettuce entertain you" group allowed it to become shabby."

"Was here several years ago, the food is still excellent, particularly recommend the lamb tacos and tres leche dessert. Decor is a bit tired and dated, and there were few diners there, but it was a Tuesday night. Would certainly recommend it for anyone that likes good food."

"Came early to eat before a show. To our surprise, all of our fav's were part of 1/2 price happy hour. We sat in the sun by a bar window and had 3 ceviche's, tuna & watermelon, octopus & crab, and a scallop & shrimp. All were VERY good. The mini chicken tacos were definitely mini, but delicious. Then we got a craving for some beef and ordered the filet medallions. We opted for the trio of crusts, bleu cheese, truffle and chimichuri. They too, were amazing! They were not part of the happy hour, but well worth the $26. My server was very sweet and accommodating. My only complaint is that 2 servers had to chase down a manager for about 15 min to apply the happy hour discount to my check even though i informed them I had to leave asap."

"... but nothing too complimentary to say about the food. We had a very kind and attentive server and it was pleasant to sit outside on a nice day during our meal. But for the money paid, the food was underwhelming both in taste and portion. The sangria was sweet and fruity, but almost to the point that it made you wonder whether there was indeed wine in it. Overall I likely would not return as there are enough other stellar restaurants in River North."

"This was my 5th visit to national 27 and for the first time I have no interest in coming back anytime soon. Friday night during our visit the server completely neglected us. It took him at least 20min to come get out appetizers order and another 25 for our entree. To make matters even worse he kept rushing us after we had dinner and were trying to have drinks and dance. He then said another server will come and help us because he was done for the night we waited around 25 min and none showed up so we ended up leaving very annoyed and disappointed. I regret deciding to go to national 27 to celebrate my birthday."

"We enjoyed Nacional 27. The food was tasty, especially the skirt steak. The red sangria was wonderful, the sparkling not so much (bitter). The portions are somewhat inconsistent in size with some dishes being about right and some entirely too large (as strange as this may sound). This serving size variation clearly varied in inverse proportion to ingredient cost. We also felt like the food was delivered too quickly (we went with tapas), almost in waves, whereas the best tapas restaurants plan this a bit better and at your eating pace. The food was a pretty good value for the money spent. While Nacional 27 is not our favorite Spanish/tapas in town, it is not bad, plus it is cool inside, so we would probably go again."

"Fantastic atmosphere, top-notch service and delicious food. Fit for many occasions - we were there for girls night out, but many couples and other groups seemed to fit well there too. Shortly after we arrived, there was a successful proposal and everyone got to join in the applause and see the bride-to-be get weak in the knees thanks to the beautiful round room layout. Dinner was outstanding, although the white wine sangria wasn't a favorite among those in my group who ordered it. After dinner, our table turned into a front row seat to fantastic Latin dancing. The bar was still hopping when we departed."

"We had super service and fabulous food! The huge basket of chips and salsa they bring to the table first is a great start. The drinks were fresh and very good and our server was so attentive and accommodating. THe scallops were super and all the tapas we had were top notch. "Admittedly, we went there on a Tuesday and the restaurant was very slow. The main dining room was closed so we had to sit in the bar, which was okay, but not the full experience I was hoping for with my date. The service is what you might expect from a bar area as the staff seemed less attentive to provide a fine dining experience, but rather a casual bar experience. The food was mediocre, although the margaritas were good."

"The food was really good. A little pricey for the portions you get, but that's expected when you go to these kind of places. Drinks were also good, with the caipirinha and pisco sour being my favorites. Music was a good selection of latin tunes and a few top 100 mixed in there. "Service was excellent, from the hostess to the waiter. However, the food was completely unremarkable, and for some reason everything, from the empanadas to the skewers, was covered in sauces that had no business being there. "My experience at this place was awful.The food is great.However,we were still planning to order more drinks when all of the sudden the waitress brought the check.It was very uncomfortable and kept on bugging us about the check if it was ready. We were a party of 8.It was really annoying after the second time she asked us we order one more drink. Then she decided to bring another updated check with the additional drink included.After that we felt insulted by the way she was approaching us and we decided to pay the check. However, we were going to order some more drinks and the manager approached us at the table and asked us to leave the table and move to the bar because they needed the table. That was such a rude remark from this place."

"I was celebrating my 36 birthday, and had an amazing time. My friends and I went once in the summer and had a great time and I said I have to go back and that's what I did! The service was great, the food was exception and the vibe was energetic! I highly recommend this establishment for dinner or dancing or the combination of the two and will definitely return."

"Went for a girl's night out, enjoyed the food although it all seemed to get to the table a little too quickly, we didnt mind that too much as the waiter was attentive and pleasant. Everything we ordered was delicious, especially the empanadas.
We were planning to make use of the dance floor once it opened at 11, but soon realized that it was all couples who were pretty serious about salsa dancing. The dance floor was the size of a postage stamp, and was packed very quickly; also the bass was turned up so loud that we were physically uncomfortable. Don't get me wrong, I love to dance and will stay out for hours but it was impossible for all those reasons.
That being said we all enjoyed the experience and people watching."

"The food was delicious but the service when we first arrived was horrible. We had dinner reservations for 9pm and did not get seated until after 10pm. They kept saying it will be just a few minutes and few minutes ended up being over 60 minutes. What is the point of making reservations if they are not going to be honored."
