Located less than a half a mile away from Steven’s grandfather’s farm estate where his culinary journey began over 25 years ago, Local - Seasonal Kitchen offers an intimate New York style dining experience showcasing Chef Santoro’s award winning contemporary American cuisine and creative use of seasonal, farm fresh ingredients, local markets and long time trusted purveyors.

"We visited on a Saturday night with friends and it is really loud. Our last visit was also a Saturday night, and was too loud for a nice conversation. But we all loved the food and the service. My first visit was a Thursday or Friday and just two of us, and it was a nice romantic setting, not too loud to converse. But don't let the acoustics keep you from going. The egg raviolo is too good to miss!"

"This is my second visit to this restaurant. Everyone raves about this restaurant, but I was not impressed either time. The ambiance is very nice and the service is great, but the food was not very inspiring. Both nights I started with a salad. Each night it was a different salad, but neither one appeared to have any dressing. They were flavorless. For my main corse I ordered salmon, which was prepared undercooked which is the way I like it. However, the vegetables were very disappointing. The pearl onions were undercooked and the broccoli florets were burnt and mushy. None of the vegetables had any flavor. I don't think the chep uses any spices at all...or at least that is the way the food tastes. Nothing to excite the palate."

"Local is excellent all around and what you would expect from a well established (and decorated) Chef. Mouth watering selection of apps and entrees, exciting creative combinations (with a hints of down-home familiarity and comfort) that draw inspiration from local farms.

"Great restaurant, focus on local products with emphasis on seasonality. Liked the use of herbs in the dishes we had, hints of fennel, rosemary, etc. Prices are high which is fine for the quality, however the portions are small. My short rib dish could have been at least 50% larger, which would have made it right for the price, and satisfying as a meal. And I'm not a fattie either, 5'11" 165 lbs."

"The menu was wonderful, and rounded out with the specials that were offered. The atmosphere was homey, but the noise level was very high. We could barely hear each other throughout the night. It took us an hour to get our first course. They also served our red wine in the traditional white wine glasses, and white in the red wine glasses - go figure! Though all of this, the food was wonderful and imaginative and we will return to try again."

"Hard to get a reservation,but when you do you feel elitist . Local lives up to that reputation The location is deceiving, in an old strip mall,however, step inside and itis vibrant, little loud but electric and the food so interesting. At first we were a little taken back because we barely understood the menu, never heard of most of the ingredients. Our waitress was very helpful and answered our many questions. I would like to tell you what i ate but i cant remember the proper names. My appetizer was a large ravioli with and egg inside, unbelievable! My entree was braised lamb with pasta, so delicious. I have already made another reservation to share this experience with my friends."

"The chefs creative dishes are overwhelmed by a heavy hand. the sauces and accompaniments which should add a grace note to the well cooked main courses Overtake them in a very unpleasant way a very good pasta appetizer was completely overwhelmed by the soup of butter it came floating in. The Seabass which was perfectly cooked was drowned in its accompaniments rather than highlighted by them. The dessert of a huckleberry" tart "was a heavy crusted turnover with a completely frozen semifeddo . The Decor was neither cool enough not elegant enough and missed both aspirations. The meal was $150 for two and while that is perfectly acceptable for great food it wasn't for this..."

"We had the steamed clams and Maine Mussels with savory broth, chorizo and beans, very tasty. The pappardelle with Hudson Valley Duck and sea scallops were both excellent. We like the idea you can get a half order of pasta if you are not that hungry. The service is knowledgeable and friendly. It does not matter Local is in a strip mall once you enter and see what a beautiful restaurant this is. Enjoy the fresh local food and you will be glad you are dining at Local Seasonal Kitchen. Make sure you make reservations or else you might not find a table available - that is how popular Locals is rapidly becoming."

"I'd heard about this place mostly through Facebook and we decided to try it early on a Saturday night. We brought our infant daughter with us and found out upon our arrival that they didn't have high chairs (so it's not a baby/kid friendly place) but we were able to get seated at a booth with her in her carseat. The food was PHENOMENAL! We tried a crudo trio appetizer special and the pork belly (order it!) and my husband got the grassfed steak while I got the short ribs. We both cleaned our plates. I got the budino for dessert while he got the cookie sampler, both of which were excellent. Service was immaculate all around. It's definitely pricey ($175 for dinner - 2 apps, 2 entrees, 2 desserts including tip) but worth the splurge!"

"Even though this was in a little strip mall, its a great find in Bergen County- I loved the concept of this restaurant- great menu of local and seasonal food. I'm still remembering the "buratina" appetizer ...wow! Our server was knowledgeable and very accommodating. She mentioned that everyone works in the kitchen one day a week, so they get a feel for how things are made, etc. Would definitely go back and recommend."

"We now have dined at Local five times so with confidence born of consistency I can say this has become the smart, delicious trendy spot that has been sorely lacking in Northern New Jersey. Every dish we've had has been inspired. Our last visit was for a tasting of my wine club. We had a seven-course tasting menu that was the bargain of the century at $89. Service was impeccable, and Chef Santoro presented dish after dish featuring wholesome ingredients put together in a way that brings a smile to your face. Congratulations, and we will be back often."

"Often when I go to a highly rated restaurant I am disappointed - high expectations. I WAS NOT disappointed. This is one of the best restaurants I've been to in NJ - probably one of the best even compared to top name NYC restaurants. Too bad they don't have a liquor license. Food was great, menu interesting and service was wonderful."

"What a treat to find a high-quility, new restaurant in Northern NJ with terrific food, service, and a varied menu that rivals the best restaurants in NYC. Do not be fooled by its location within a small, non-descript strip retail center in Ramsey NJ. Once one reads the bio on the owner and chef you then will understand why this restaurant will be ranked as one of the best NJ restaurants in NJ for those who appreciate excellent food with a professional presentation. In addition, being a BYOB helps keep the costs reasonable.
We definitely will be back again & again!"

"Everything was pleasurable, from the food to the service to the ambience. We felt like we were in someone's home. Our previous visit, we felt the wait staff was hovering and tense to some extent, but there was neither of these distractions this time.
Even the care for my 88-year old mother, who is unsteady on her feet, was caring and professional , as Mike, the Manager, helped her both in and out of the restaurant with total graciousness.
We look forward to the seasonal changes in the menu that are coming!"

"Clearly they spent lots of money on decor which helped since restuarant is located in lower end strip mall. Pretty on the inside and noise level not too bad. Similar complaint as others, service was weak. Need to get some experienced wait staff ASAP. Never even offered bread, kept trying to fill water galss that was never touched. Food was tasty for the little they gave. Ordered the special, 3 cheese ravioli and received 7 paper thin raviolis which had almost no cheese filling at all. I think most places give portions that are too large, but this goes the other way. Pricing was way too high for what you get. $35+ for 3oz fish over beans, $13 for all desserts and $6 for cup of tea makes NYC look cheap. Fine food - bad value/weak service."

"5:15 sat. seating...overall excellent seasonally fresh food.....pork belly and ricotta gnudi apps. were great......I had the squid ink pasta and shrimp special, wonderfully cooked but, flavors were a little subtle for my palate, and my date loved the short rib entree, but I found the meat again a tad underwhelming in the taste department,not as succulent as expected.....dessert was outstanding I had their take on pot de creme take and my date loved the cheese plate......the service was friendly, caring and knowledgeable, if at times mildly lacking attentiveness. NYC prices but, the bring your own really evens things out......will look forward to trying it again!!"

"Based on some of the opening press we went to Local Seasonal Kitchen with high expectations. We were not disappointed. Don't be deceived by the strip-mall locale. There is some serious dinning to be had inside. Upon entering the restaurant your greeted with a warmth in most restaurants usually reserved for regulars. A few steps inside and you begin to notice the care taken in the décor of the restaurant which is in keeping with its fresh, sophisticated approach to food. Throughout the meal the knowledgeable service was attentive without being fussy. The best part however was the food. The starters excellent,the housemade pastas sublime and the entres showing a depth of flavor and ingredients found only in the finest destination restaurants"

"Wow! We had heard great things about Local and had high expectations and no one was disappointed . We were a group of 4 and there was a good deal of sharing !The food was fabulous! Unlike most restaurants of this caliber the portions were generous. My truffle ravioli appetizer was delicious as were the avocado offering on the menu and the crab appitizer special. I had the short ribs and they were perfection on a plate, my husband's had the halibut and it was delicious. The desserts were incredible the chocolate pave was my selection and completely worth the calories! Chef Steven and wife Joan, thank you for such a memorable dining experience. Local deserves the rave reviews that are spreading like wildfire... It is just fabulous!"
