"We dined here prior to a Civic Center performance and had a great time. Food was excellent, came on time, and the Chef came out and chatted with our foodie colleagues about how he made the smoked deviled eggs and other things cooking. They loved it. Really pleasant time. we'll go back."

"food was so-so. pasta carbonara was good. heavy with cream, which isn't traditional. gramercy burger was decent. appreciated the smaller size. don't need a half pound burger. fries aren't homemade. found that surprising. real problem was the list of items not available. take them off your menu if you're not serving them anymore. had to re-order after server found yet another item they were "out of" at 6:30pm. then got charged for the item. pathetic. also, is it asking too much to refill a water glass? one more thing to note, and this is knit picking, we had a table of 8, including a baby who didn't eat, was charged the auto 20%. seems peculiar."

"Wonderful food, great service, a happening place to be. The dates stuffed with blue cheese and wrapped in bacon a must. Nice selection of entrees & appetizers as well as an extensive wine list. Wait staff knows their wines. Location in downtown perfect for pre-theatre dinners."

"Fantastic find - will recommend to all our friends living in or visiting Des Moines. The menu was varied and the food fresh, delicious and perfectly presented. The Gramercy Tap feels like a very expensive, happening restaurant. Live music at 9. The best waitstaff we have had - friendly and intelligent. You will love the decor."

"My group of 6 went to The Gramercy Tap for dinner and for the entertainment afterward featuring "The Faculty Lounge." We had a great experience! The food was excellent, although the clam chowder and the lamb was already 'sold out', even though it was barely 6:00p.m. The staff was courteous and professional, but as the late crowd grew in number, there was clearly a shortage of staff to take orders. The ambience is funky and fun, although the energy-saving lightbulbs in the hanging lamps cast a weirdly cold light. Would much prefer the warmer, regular lightbulbs. Overall, The Gramercy Tap provided a great time, the band really rocked and we will definitely go back."

"Reminded me of fun restaurants in NYCity. Great environment. Super food, wait staff very kind and helpful. Chef did an excellent job. We will be back! 5 STARS! Doesn't apply to us -- but I could see this as a great setting to entertain corporate clients (one of my past lives!)"

"Great food and amazing ambience, however our waitress was quite unprofessional, talking badly about her manager and comparing this restaurant to her other job, Django. She was a good waitress overall based on performance however talking badly about your job and other tables is very unprofessional"

"This restaurant was good but not great. Our server seemed fairly inexperienced and did not handle his responsibilities all that well. Nice, but showed inexperience. The food was good tasting, but the presentation was unimpressive. Wine list is fairly weak. The host station was not obviously located and was unstaffed when we arrived. There were several people walking in and out of the kitchen in jackets and hats on their cell phones. One of the cooks was wearing an Abercrombie t-shirt and not a chef's uniform. Overall it just felt like they didn't yet have their act together. This restaurant will need to do a better job creating an impressive experience for patrons to keep people coming back. I hope they do because it has a lot of potentia."

"This was our first experience at this restaurant. Very enjoyable on every level. Nice casual restaurant, but please don't wear your seed hat or team sweatshirts. Service was excellent. A wonderful menu with extensive appetizers, fabulous high quality gourmet food. Also plentiful sandwiches, sides and salads. All four of us were very pleased with our food. Prices are fair for what you are getting. Love the fresh - local selections. Yes, this place is worth your time."

"The wine list is way overpriced. For example, a $22 bottle of Seghesio Sonoma Zinfandel was $60. High end bottles were marked up triple retail and the corkage fee is $15.00. Appetizer prices were also overpriced. We paid $5 for 1.5 deviled eggs. Main courses were on track for similiar restaurants. Quality of the food was good but not great. Our server was friendly but seemed rather new. He knew nothing about wine. So, bottom line, I would not go out of my way to go back. Too much other competition in DSM for higher quality and less price. I am comparing to Splash, DJango, Sbrocco and Alba. I know this is just my opinion. If they were to fix a few of the items I described above I would gladly come back soon."

"Service was outstanding, nice atmosphere, reasonable wine list and bar - this is second time we ate here - 1st time food was great - this time I had the same meal (the braised tritip) - the meat was no where close to the tritip I had about a month earlier. The server even had the meal redone and it was better but still not tender and moist like the original. My husband had the picnic burger - again OK but not great. Correctly done but dry and not particularly flavorful.
This restaurant is close to the Civic Center so nice for a pre-theatre meal- dependable, pleasant service in a quiet spot- they really just need to get the food more consistent."

"I have read a couple unfavorable reviews for this restaurant, however, I still wanted to make my own opinion (I usually do). I am not sure why restaurants do not last at this location. I didn't order anything extravagant, just a burger and fries and I thought it was very tasty. My sister ordered an entree and liked it, wasn't raving, but said it was fine. During our visit, it was slow at that time, but our server seemed even slower in taking our order. He gave us plenty of time to peruse the menu, unfortunately, too much time as I was trying to get his attention he was chatting away with a co-worker. He was very friendly and attentive otherwise. We would go back and try other menu items."

"Great new restaurant..sort of as Chef Meeks is a legend in Des Moines. I had the seared Lamb...very delicious. The Crème Brule was fantastic.
Waitress (Carrie) was an extremely pleasant host. She was able to guide us through the wine selections.
They do not serve bread before the meal (not an issue with me as I have ruined many a meal by over eating the bread). But some at my table were disappointed in this.
Our group was extremely happy with the meal/service/ambiance. A first rate dining experience."

"Our experience was mixed. It was clear from the start that the waitress had no idea what she was doing. She offered no help with the menu, brought out the wrong bottle of wine (one $30 more than the one ordered - good thing we caught it), and couldn't answer a very basic question about the soup without checking with the kitchen. Once we got our food, there was very little follow-up.
The food itself was quite good, though a few complaints here as well - mostly about portion size. Two of us ordered the Gramercy burger, which was fairly tasty; however, the burger was awfully small for $16 (ridiculously, to be frank - a bigger, more loaded burger at Django costs basically the same), and as a result, the blue cheese overwhelmed the beef taste"

"This chef has raving reviews but I was not impressed. Ordered a Manhattan to start and the bar tender poured at least a teaspoon of bitters in, sent it back. The best part of the meal was by far the fried oysters which I recommended to the server should be a staple menu item. I will return from all that I have heard about the chef but I was not impressed with the food... possibly I made poor choices."

"We ate there on Valentine's Day...the initial appetizer was ok, but you could tell it had been sitting for awhile and was hard as a rock. I then ordered the roasted beet salad and my boyfriend had the roasted butternut squash soup. The salad was ok, but the flavor was lacking. The soup was not good at all...way too much tumeric and not enough sweetness that squash naturally has. For my entree I had the lobster risotto and that's finally where my meal turned around...it was amazing! Creamy, plenty of lobster and loaded with flavor! My boyfriend had the aged bone in beef filet and loved it! Ended the meal with Tiramisu which I don't usually love, but this was spot on! Make sure to get dessert and skip the apps!"

"This restaurant has a very cold feel, dark and cavelike. I had requested a booth when I made the reservation. There were plenty available when we arrived (only one was occupied) but we were seated at a table for two right at the entry of the seating space. Pretty much the worst possible seat and the restaurant was fairly empty. It was very cold and I had to keep my coat around me throughout the meal. The burgers were dry and nothing memorable. We both got the squash for a side, which we usually love, but neither of us cared for the taste. It is unlikely we will return."

"Our first visit. We very much enjoyed our food and the Cabernet Franc was very good and reasonably priced. Our only complaint was the service. We arrived as the theatre crowd was heading out to the play. While they were very busy when we arrived, shortly after being seated there were plenty of open tables. Despite that it took 20 minutes after ordering for our wine to arrive. Upon ordering our dinner we waited nearly 45 minutes for what for the most part was sandwiches. And on top of that, the fries with my sandwich took another 5 minutes to arrive. It seemed like the kitchen and to some degree the wait staff was overwhelmed. Would likely give them another shot, however."

"The Gramercy Tap has great appetizers and entrees. Seating was fast when we arrived but looked to slow down greatly as the night went on, even with open tables. The only complaint was that the door breeze was a little much at our table."
