Sen NYC is a classically-rooted Modern Japanese restaurant in the heart of the Flatiron District. A regional expansion from its origins in Sag Harbor , Sen NYC is unique in its balance between classic sushi and a modern approach to otherwise traditional Japanese kitchen cuisine. Calamari tempura was very good, sushi was so-so and overpriced. Had to shout to have a conversation, though it got quieter after 10pm."

"I was expecting a lot more from the food. The menu was rather limited in my opinion, and many of the items I would have ordered they were out of that night. It was a Saturday night and they had a DJ which is not what I was expecting from a presumably upscale sushi place. It was too loud."

"This was our 5th time, and the first time we weren't fussed over as a repeat customer, so I guess they feel they are thoroughly launched and established now. The food was ss reliably terrific as always. My only and first-time complaint, was that in contrast to other times, I felt that the waitress was in a big hurry for us to place an order and get out. She would bring food too quickly, so we deliberately placed our orders piecemeal, and made our lack of rush clear but still it would come out too simultaneously. OpenTable only showed reservations available for 6:45 (which we took) and after 9-9:30, but there were 10 tables open when we arrived, and almost as many still open at 8:15 (at very end, they stopped rushing us to leave)."

"I live in the neighborhood and wish Sen was more then it is. The food is decent but the service is horrible and the staff is clueless to what they're serving and what things actually are. If they were to educate their people better, I would consider going back but until then, I wouldn't recommend it. I also have been there 4 times total, 2 were great because of one knowledgeable waiter, 2 were horrible because of the other uneducated waiters."

"The appetizers were great. We had a tasty salad and delicious calamari tenpura style. The sushi was fresh but the chef selections were on the small side and not as interesting as I would have liked. More on the standard fare. The homemade soy sauce was nice with a flowery layered flavor. There are barely any dessert options - just weird ice cream flavors - not even a green tea ice cream. The service was outstanding - our server, Chris, was friendly, helpful and knowledgable and the rest of the staff including the bus service and hostess were great. Love the decor - very cool with a trendy, loungy atmosphere. The cocktails were great and good selection of wine and saki."

"This was my third time at Sen and the third time that they had run out of multiple menu items, most of which I had wanted to order. This time they took it a step further- accepted our order, served us everything but the one thing I'd said they were out of the last two times so please rush my order, and then when I asked where that dish was said it was on its way, then came back a few minutes later and said they'd run out of it. Beyond that, it took our waitress so long to acknowledge us beyond bringing water that the rest of my party wanted to leave. The food is delicious but they need to sort out their food availability and service issues if they want to keep me as a patron."

"The sushi and other food was fine but the service was terrible and the restaurant does not seem to have its footing yet. We were told that our table was not ready when the restaurant was not even half full and were ultimately seated at a table that had been empty since we walked in. The food came out in an order that made no sense - sushi before appetizers etc. We got the wrong food delivered to our table more than once. We ended up canceling several things we had ordered because the wait became so long or the order of service made no sense. We love Sen in Sag Harbor - this was not the same experience."

"Environment is very inviting and the service very attentive, friendly, and the right balance. Food was fine, with the sea bass standing out. The Sushi/Sashimi combo was ok, but not remarkable. For $48 you could get similar quality (if not better) and much more food at dozens of other sushi houses. Sake selection was good. Overall, a good place and we would go back once every six months."

"They served us uncooked truffle rice and we sent it back and they brought it back another uncooked rice again an hour later. Although I enjoyed my Sushi plate and sushi roll, I was just speechless that one japanese restaurant can't even cook rice right..."

"TERRIBLE DONT GO!!! Open Tables reviews of this restaurant couldn't have even more WRONG. Spare yourself and your wallet TRUST ME service was bad, food was aah, and it was extremely over priced. Very disappointing."

"The atmosphere upon entering is warm and inviting - and very chic! Servers are attentive and highly knowledgeable about the unusual items on the menu. There are many seasonal sushi items from around the world - the tasmanian trout was incredible! Although the sushi rice is well seasoned, I actually enjoyed sashimi more because the fish is so delicate and different and rice almost marred it. I also enjoyed two of the "small bite" items suki maguro, which is a soy tuna item with this incredible wasabi gelee, and the yellowtail tartar - not your usual mound of bland tartare with mashed avocados, but a delicate dish with unusual flavors. The sea bass and truffle rice bowl rounded out a great meal. Loved it!"

"delicious addition to the neighborhood! i was really impressed with almost everything I ate. i highly recommend the chahan garlic fried rice, the kara yuzu chicken skewer, the pickled daikon salad, and the harami garlic beef skewer. the sushi was also incredibly fresh.
i thought the tuna tartare was not that interesting and the portion was way too small. 3 of us shared it and we each got maybe a teaspoon. the curry rice had amazing flavors, but I felt as if the rice was not cooked all the way through. not sure if that was on purpose, but i'm generally not a big fan of "al dente" rice; that's just personal.
the saddest part of the night was that they had run out of the truffle butter rice :( by 8pm!?
i'll be going back to try"

"Wonderful atmosphere to go along with the great food and wonderful service. I am in the service buisness myself it is nice to have a waiter (ryan) who knows everything about the menu and how to help you order. Im not a huge sushi fan but i had their specials, small plates and mains. Everything was fantastic. My boyfriend had the sashimi and said it was fresh and delicious !"
