"Simple menu with well prepared fish. Shrimp and grits appetizer was flavored well without being spicy. Salads were big and fresh. My wife had the pan seared scallops and they were done just right, very moist without being overlooked and dried out. I had a creole dish in a skillet that was well seasoned but could have used a little more sauce. Service was friendly and attentive. All in all a relaxed evening with good food at moderate prices."

"Had a wonderful meal with great service. we went at 5:00 on a Sat. so it was not crowded at all which meant the noise was very low. I had the crab legs--1 lb serving was about 3 large clusters--very nicely prepared. Husband had raw oysters which he loved and followed that with bbq platter--he said the bbq was great. It was a huge serving; he couldn't even finish it all. We will definitely go again although the prices on draft beer were higher than most places--$7.50 for a craft beer down to 3.50 for a Bud (and who drinks Bud after sampling craft beers."

"We made a reservation and arrived a few minutes early. We were seated promptly and our drink orders were taken almost immediately. My husband ordered the special, Fried Catfish, with a side caesar salad. I ordered the Tuna sashimi with shrimp and the steamed clams. The food was excellent! The steamed clams were amazing and the sashimi was very well done. It was served with an Asian slaw that was very different and very good. The dressing on the caeser salad was very garlickly. It was easy to tell that it was made in house. I will be ordering one of my own next time. This is a great local spot, away from the tourist areas. The focus is one good fish and seafood. We will definitely eat here often."

"My wife and I wanted to try someplace different to celebrate our 44th anniversary and decided to give Holy Mackeral a try. We made reservations for 7pm through Open Table and were quickly seated. We were told the special was not available due to unexpected demand. In fairness, there had ben terrible weather and it seemed everyone was looking to get out ofnthe house and go eat.
So we ordered salmon and fish and chips. Then we were told they were out of baked potatoes?
Appetizer of shrimp was delicious. Main course arrived and sockeye salmon was overcooked. Waitress, co-owner and floor manager did very thing expected to correct the situation promptly.
Overall food was ok, service was excellent and atmosphere enjoyable. We will be back."

"My friend recommended this restaurant to me, she has been several times and is always impressed. I have read some reviews describing the food as average and I couldn't disagree more! I have lived in the area for many years and can't remember the last time I have been to a seafood restaurant with reasonable prices and Fresh Quality Flavorful Food. This restaurant is not a chain and it shows. The staff and management go out of their way to make sure you are well taken care of and you just don't see that anymore. This is by far my new favorite place to eat."

"This was our first visit but not our last. We were first seated in a very noisy back room. We asked and received a booth in the front opposite the windows. Much better. I will request a table in the front from now on. Food was very good and service was fast."

"This was our first time visiting this restaurant. As locals, we had read positive reviews about it. We were a group of 6 which included 4 adults and 2 children. The server was very attentive to the children and offered them a selection of toys to choose. However, the food was somewhat average, overpriced, not seasoned very well and thus a bit tasteless. It reminded me of a typical tourist trap restaurant at the outer banks. There are better fresh seafood places in Williamsburg. Don't think we would return or recommend."

"I met some friends at HM's Saturday early evening.
It was my first visit and I was very pleased with the restaurant, food, and beer selection. I hope they get more craft brews in for selection. I had the steamer plate with crab legs and shrimp because I was trying to keep down the carbs (man I wanted the fish and chips!!). The steamer plate was good. I hope to come back on a Monday evening when they have all you can eat crab legs (and an option for shrimp too). My buddy got the oyster po-boy and it looked awesome!
The oysters on the half-shell and steamed clams we got for apps were very good too."

"My wife was a little apprehensive about going to Holy Mackeral for Mother's Day, the friends reviews were mixed. The visit was quite pleasant, She had snow crab legs and an order of steamed clams. She was impressed. The Alaskan crab legs were meaty and sweet and the clams some of the best she has ever had. I had blackened Ahi Tuna that was very good. The service was outstanding. The ambiance is that of a fish house. It is not a tablecloth place. If you want good food and service, go."

"Good food and excellent service. We appreciate how the manager makes his way to each table to see how the patrons are enjoying their meals or if they have any concernes. They also have a great selection of wines and local brews (draught and bottle). The stuffed flounder and grilled salmon are very good."

"From the delicious and moderately priced menu to the attentive wait staff, Holy Mackeral is a true gem! We got to meet the owners who were featured on tv's " The Travel Chanbel" for their incredible ability to create amazing concoctions from the bar. Fabulous experience!"

"The food was very good. I thought the prices were a bit high for the type of restaurant . For example the paper napkin wrapped silverware was very light weight, the music was not so great. In summary the prices were upscale but the restaurant ambiance , fixtures, etc. we're not."

"Decided to try this place based of reviews on Open Table and I was very happy I did. The place was very inviting with the color scheme and lights and appeared to be very clean. Upon review of the menu and some suggestions from our waiter we decided on the Ahi Tuna entrée and Crab cakes With House smoked wings to start. The wings are by far the best I have ever had and the house made hot sauce gave heat and flavor which is a rare thing. Entrée’s arrived in a timely manner with me and my wife splitting entrees as she likes to do. I really enjoyed the Ahi tuna cooked med rare as it should be and the crab cake was made with big pieces of crabs and little filler. Our server was very at tentative and kept us entertained at times. "Nice theme and decor, but service needs improvement. Our waiter was obviously new and should have had an experianced waitress/waiter working with him. Our childrens meal orders were never placed and our appitizers & main course arrived before their grilled cheese sandwiches. An adjacent table had a similar problem."

"An amazing place with an incredible menu. We are from NYC and know good restaurants and will deeply miss having a place like this to go to. Casual, great service and everything and anything you want, both in seafood and steak. Any don't even forget about dessert, as they have an amazing pastry chef who did this best Apple Carmel Pie. BEST EVER!"

"Great addition to Williamsburg, loved it. I had never tried it before I took a group of ladies for girls night out, all eight of us loved our food. Presentation was beautiful, seafood was fresh, french fries perfect. Lovely, charming staff that made us feel welcome. We all will return and introduce other friends to this new and exciting place."

"We walked in as a party of 10 and they were ready for us. The service was outstanding! The kids had many kid friendly choices and even commented "the best chicken fingers ever! Each child picked out a toy from the treasure chest which kept th busy and happy while we waited. The beer list was ling with a few locals on tap. ihad grilled shrimp very good my sister had pot steamer which she enjoyed great for any size group. It is tucked away in the corner of a shopping strip without a doubt worth finding!! The best dinning experience in Williamsburg"

"This restaurant has not had it's grand opening yet, and is working out "the bugs". Our experience was not a good one, but the management was very attentive to your concerns, and finished the evening by offering us something to entice us to return. He explained the problems, and then tried to remedy the situation. I hope I can convince my husband to give them another chance b/c I was excited about having another seafood option in this area, and this one has alot of potential, if they can work out the server and kitchen problems."

"My wife and I were very impressed with the restaurant as a whole. I had the Fish n' Chips and it was one of the best I've had since we moved to Virginia. A nice thick cod filet that was lightly breaded and cooked to perfection."
