Caña, SF is a high-casual, Cuban neighborhood and destination restaurant with Club/Live-Music/DJ components/ supper club options. Our concept is to serve well articulated Cuban classics with an eye for locally grown and sourced products. Our overall concept involves the use of real “Caña,” that is crushing our own sugar cane to produce syrups, glazes and tinctures with a special emphasis on creating a novel cock-tailing environment in the great Cuban tradition of rum-based bar-tending. Our concept involves a cultural component that integrates Cuban food, art, dance, music and ethnographic appeal that allows for penetration into Afro-centric, Latin and “Cubaphiles” who consume and/or have interest in anything Cuban…”Cuban Chic” or “La Furandula”…refers to the place to be.
"the reviews on yelp were mixed. So we were pleasantly surprised by the wonderful, fresh food and the fantastic service. What more is there to say? We live very close by so we will definitely go there often. And who knew they had a full bar? We ordered the burger and the fish of the day and were both very happy with our choices. That burger was phenomenal actually. The beet salad was generous and very tasty. And our waitress provided wonderful service. We are hoping that this restaurant continues to be a success because we want to continue going to it. So go now!"

"Love the decor, and the live music. But the food was over-seasoned with overpowering flavors. I love Cuban food, but this was not like any I had eaten before."

"We came for a friend's bday/going away party. Group of 8 of us. Sunday is their day for dancing. The music was great for giving high energetic feel but was also a little too loud to enjoy plain conversation. Looking over the balcony at the dancers was alot of fun. Our server, Danielle, was great. The sweet plaintains with honey butter were the best thing we ate there. I was addicted to them!! Great drinks too!"

"The food was delicious as expected. I've been here before during slow hours so got very attentive service. On my last visit however, the quality of service started optimistically with the hostess supporting my main server who had his hands full with too many tables. There appeared to be only two servers for this bi-level restaurant, so they were probably under staffed. The support fell off after appetizers were delivered. They forgot to bring out the first order of drinks, glasses for the bottle of water, did not check up to see if the food or beverages were to our liking. VERY long wait for entrees which tasted average. It tasted rushed. Couldn't flag our server down for anything, especially the check. In a rush to leave. Disappointing."

"Cana was a delightful gem--the service was attentive but not intrusive, the food was flavorful and delicious, the music set a mellow yet festive atmosphere, and the mojitos were simple, crisp and refreshing. The space is open and well designed--great for groups. I cannot wait to return--especially to check out the brunch. I appreciated the kindness of the bartender when my date was stuck in traffic and I was sitting alone at the bar for 45 minutes. He was friendly but did not hover and checked in with me periodically which made me feel comfortable and looked after."

"Still good, but not as good as our first time. They need to pay attention to the details. Several things that we requested were not delivered. Drinks were subpar. Staff is all very friendly. We'll give it one more try."

"Brunch is inventive and food is carefully prepared. Really liked the steak and eggs, and their benedict is good too. Staff were super helpful, but didn't venture outside to our table often enough to give really good service. Kitchen was good enough to include hollondaise with steak dish at my request for no extra charge, which was great."

"We had a 7pm reservation on a Friday night. It was relatively quiet then and slowly picked up after that. The music was the perfect accompaniment to great food and great service. I had read all the previous reviews and was prepared for the worst (and I brought cash). Turns out my concerns were unwarranted and I brought barely enough cash even though I brought my own bottle of wine ($20 corkage). Mojitos then Tuna tartare, empenadas, quinoa/garbanzo stew, seafood special, and the bread pudding (yum) were all superb."

"Waited 30 minutes for drinks and about an hour and 15 minutes for food. We were only 1 ffour top out of 5 tables. And half of our orders were incorrect. Sevrer argued over menu insisting things listed as a component of a dish were not included. When we arrived, we were looking forward to live music and were disappointed to find there wouldn't be any music or dancing as advertised. We were also a bit miffed by the cash only requirement for such a spendy brunch ($50pp) When we left we just wished we had gone somewhere else. Cana really needs to find their rhythm."

"I grew up in Florida eating cuban food at the famous Columbia restaurant...best outside of cuba.and Cana over exceeded my expectations ! The staff was very attentiive and I cant say enough about the food and specialty drinks. There was nothing on the menu we ordered that was a bad dish. Having a live band that played authentic cuban music added to the atmospehere.I would have liked to seen the band play past 845pm...our res was at 8pm. I love the fact this restaurant is my hood and plan on many more dining expierences at Cana. Oh and Daniel the manager is fantastic !"

"Loved the live music, but it was very loud. There was a draft every time the door opened, so it was chilly. We don't eat pork, so the menu was very limited. The prices were high for the quality, and the wines were all high - especially since there are many wonderful Spanish wines that are quite inexpensive. It was okay, but not stellar."

"We went on Valentine ’s Day hoping to have a pleasant meal at a new restaurant. It appeared that no-one on the staff really wanted to be there. We arrived early to have a drink at the bar. It took over ten minutes to get service, the bar staff was not busy. We settled the bar tab and proceeded to our table. Again, it took over ten minutes to get served. We ordered (five course dinner) and received each course in an un-timely manner. We were never asked how our meal was, service was basically placing the plates on our table with no conversation. We received our tab which included drinks from the bar we already paid for and a 20% gratuity both of which I refused to pay for. Enjoyed the food but it is doubtful if we go back."

"There were definitely some kinks to work out because the restaurant is new - like the drinks taking 10-15 minutes to arrive from the bar. The hostess and waitstaff were very friendly (and apologetic about the wait for the drinks, which makes up for a lot in my book). Food was pretty good, but not amazing. My biggest critique is the "cash only" policy. I understand "cash only" at less expensive places, but for three of us, the bill was $200 with tip. I just happened to have the cash on me, but typically wouldn't. It was a business dinner, so I want to pay with credit card for tax purposes. Unless a place is amazing, I would rather pick among the hundreds of other great SF restaurants that take credit."

"Cana was a last minute decision. It was Saturday night at 7pm and we had no plans. Never fear, Open Table pointed us to Cana SF. The restaurant is fairly new, which is the only reason I can see that it wasn't completely booked.
The cuban food was great. We ate a bunch of small plates- ceviche, spare ribs, shredded pork sliders, empanadas were all delicious. The drinks were even better. We had a spicy tequila cocktail that was super delicious. The mojito was good (refreshingly not too sweet) and the boys ended the night with a rum tasting.
It was a bit loud for casual conversation, but there was a live band with music. People were dancing and having a great time. They do take cash only, which is a bit of a pain."

"We really liked Cana. It's hard to say too much because it was only its 3rd or 4th night open ... but the food was really really good - especially a kind of combo ceviche/salad that had perfectly fresh seafood along with greens & surprising tiny bits like grilled pineapple and avocado - best salad I've had in a restaurant in ages. We also tried the empanadas, black bean/cacao bisque and as main courses the oxtail and shredded pork. All delicious. The service was great, too - a bit uneven on the timing as it was clear they are still working out some kinks, but everyone was warm and friendly and clearly excited about "their" new restaurant. I suspect it will be hard to get a table here once the word gets out!"
