When diners enter this stylish restaurant in the heart of Boston’s Back Bay – steps away from the South End & Theater District – they are immediately enveloped in earth tones, rich dark wood and the airiness of high ceilings reverberating with the energy and excitement of the space. The lively bar area is a popular gathering spot offering a selection of cocktails, sake, wine and beer. Guests look on as the team of chefs create cutting-edge sushi dishes, or they settle into an experience of award-winning cuisine in the main dining area. From the knowledgeable and attentive waitstaff to charismatic owner Jack Huang’s pleasure at meeting diners, expect the comfort of being warmly welcomed at Douzo. Like the atmosphere, Douzo’s healthy and fresh cuisine seamlessly combines warm tradition and modern innovation of Japanese classics. Douzo offers inventive dishes that make the restaurant both a neighborhood fixture and a critically acclaimed destination, signature items.
"The appetizers were amazingly delicious - esp the amberjack w/ chardonnay gelee (only ours was substituted w/ baby yellowtail which I prefer); the miso black cod; and the miso eggplant. The rolls have nice descriptions & sound amazing, but somehow lacked flavor. Normally a roll w/ spicy mayo and lots of trimmings would have enough flavor on its own to avoid soy sauce, but I needed the soy. (I can't remember what we had - back bay and the torch maybe?)
I'd go back for the appetizers alone though - we ended up ordering a second miso black cod b/c it was so delicious."

"The food was great--everything very fresh tasting--and the service was prompt and helpful, until the end when it took just too much time to get the bill and pay it."

"Douzo has always been one of my favorite sushi places in the city. It's great for girls' night or date night. I haven't been in a couple years and I was pleased to find they still had a few of my favorites on the menu, including the Snow Mountain Roll and Naruto appetizer. We also ordered one of the special rolls, which had jalepeno and salmon and it was okay. The salmon tartar was also okay, but kind of plain and I think they're old dish was better. It's always busy and energetic, drinks are good - especially the Saketini. We caught a good buzz and had a good dinner overall. The service was a little slow, but I could tell our waiter was covering a lot of tables. Overall it was great as usual."

"A few friends and I were looking for a good place to eat while out in Boston and found this place quite accidentally. We made a reservation for 8, but when we showed up much earlier (there was only an 8pm available) they took us right away. We were perhaps slightly underdressed and I presume that's what caused the hostess to sneer at us and treat us like trash but the rest of the wait staff was kind. The food, for the most part, was delicious. My one sushi roll was rather bland and mild, but the salad and other food we ordered was fantastic. If I were to go back her, I suppose I wouldn't wear my running shoes and a hoodie. But how was I to know it was a nice dress place to eat?"

"Although above categories mostly good we had a very uncomfortable situation come up which is bad enough NOT TO GO BACK. I called the restaurant to increase the reservation to 10. We each asked about parking and were told that there was no valet parking on weekends but the restaurant would validate our parking in the same building and it would cost us $5.00. Unfortunately the staff came over to the table to tell us that because we had a 4:00 reservation (which they obviously knew since I added to the number of diners) the garage would not honor the validated ticket!! The parking cost $29 times four, unaffordable and unacceptable. They said it was the garage's problem, not theirs. They lost good customer + bad reputation for good service,"

"Our waiter, Luke, was fantastic. He was personable, knowledgeable and just enjoyable to have as part of our experience. The food is always very good although the beef wrapped asparagus we felt was over cooked and not that tasty. Other than that the food was delicious!"

"This restaurant was so highly reviewed I just had to check it out, I found mediocre fresh fish and way overpriced everything. I will not be returning as there are far better and cheaper sushi places a short walk away!"

"First time at Douzo and I have nothing but good things to say. Both the service and the food were exceptional! Our waitress was attentive but not overbearing and did offer recommendations at our request. The tuna tataki was amazing! The sushi was so fresh. Overall, we spent a bit of money on this dinner - 4 drinks, 2 appetizers & 4 sushi rolls totaling $125 - but it was well worth it."

"Sushi was amazing, the Kobe beef was also top notch, I recommend Douzo to anyone who is a seafood lover and to anyone who wants to have one of the best pieces of steak."

"This is by far the best sushi in Boston. Its not even up for discussion. I dont know what they do, or where they source their fish, but OMG this place is next level."

"The food here is amazing. Days later and my mind still goes back to the taste of the great food. I'd recommend the Winter white Sangria it was a surprisingly unique taste that goes very well with sushi. I can't wait to go back."
