"We went her for Mother's Day brunch. We were only able to select from their dinner menu and they had seating times at 12, 3 and 6. Average price was about thirty dollars for a main course, fifteen for appetizer and dessert. Seating is limited and not good for large parties. The food was great. My salmon and my wife's sea bass were cooked to perfection as was my mother-in-laws beef tenderloin.
This is a very nice place and highly recommend."

"My family and friends have enjoyed dining at The Ranch House for more than 35 years. The gardens are always breath taking, the service is always superb and the food is always too fantastic to adequately describe with mere words. In the last 45 years, I have enjoyed dinning in the very best restaurants in major cities throughout the U.S. (including Hawaii), yet I have never, ever found any place that can come close to the extraordinary experience of The Ranch House."

"This restaurant is by far the best restaurant we have every been to. It has the most delicious food, superb wine list, exceptional service, and great ambience. It is in a most beautiful setting, set in the garden and trees. We love coming here, we just don't get to too often as we live in San Diego. But we will certainly come again."

"We were a party of six..there was a slight problem with one of the meals and the staff and chef handled it immediately to our satisfaction. I would reccommend going in the early evening when the gardens are lighted it really adds to the view and atmosphere. As always we enjoyed ourselves."

"While the food was good I didn't find it exceptional for the price. It was actually quite ordinary and the servings were small. My daughter ordered scallops for $32.00 and received 3 of them. My salad was good - ordinary and my husband's steak was really tasty. The ambiance is not to be beaten anywhere - I just wish the food quality and wow factor matched the prices."

"Love the setting and the food was good. The service needs help...the waiter got the drink order all mixed up and didn't return after serving the meal to see if we needed anything else or of everything was alright. He should have written down our order instead of trying to do it from memory. We had to ask for the wine menu and then waited a long time for the waiter to take that order. We also had to ask for the desert menu after dinner. The setting is so special that this remains one of our favorite places to take visiting guests, but hope the service improves."

"My steak was incorrectly cooked and when I pointed it out to the waitress she said "Are you sure?" When the steak came back, corrected, she went on about how the chef said the original steak had been cooked the it was ordered. No apology, ever. I've been ordering steak for 35 years and I know the difference between medium rare and medium. I would expect this kind of service from a Denny's maybe, not from an alleged 5 star restaurant."

"This was the second meal at The Ranch House and I have to say that the service was not as good as the first visit. We never got a bread basket and we had to ask three times to have our non-alcoholic drinks refilled. The food was good and the setting is marvelous so I would still recommend that people visit. I hope that this was a temporary problem as service was excellent on my first visit."

"There are a number of areas to sit. Each has a different view. We overlooked the "back yard" and watched hummingbirds in the flowered bushes. Next time, I want to sit closer to the bubbling fountain. Our waitress was very efficient and friendly. Pricey, so we can't do it often-but certainly worth it for special occasions! I had scallops that Cat Cora said was the "best thing" she had ever eaten. They WERE tender and delicious, as were the vegetables (asparagus & carrots with lemon butter sauce) and mashed potatoes (too small a portion for me). The pate was lacking in flavor for my taste, but accompanied by crisp pickle chips and olives that added flavor. My husband really enjoyed the Nest salad but the portion was small for a big man."

"Seriously, you are only going to the Ranch House, because it's pretty. Sad service. Meh, food. If I notify you in my opentable reservation that it's our 19th anniversary, yes, I expect a romantic table close to the garden and a Happy Anniversary when we arrive, not a table in the back by the kitchen door. It's an insult. Really, Ranch House, really? And 1 carrot cut into 4 pieces, a sprig of broccoli and 3 small scallops should never cost $30, but I would allow it if it taste really good. It wasn't really good. And tossing a small complimentary bottle of champagne unopened on the table w/o glasses after our meal, does not make up for poor service. I tipped you well, but you made me sad."

"We had never been here before, so we were very pleasantly surprised by the ambience. We had a table right near the garden, where we could see our waiter cutting herbs for our lunch dishes. All that was missing were rabbits sitting in the grassy area. Food was great, prices reasonable, and quantities quite acceptable. We will return."

"beautiful setting.. possibly an off night but the seabass and asparagus were both overcooked.. the fish being soggy and limp. both could use more seasoning.. would try it again because of the atmosphere but tell them of my previous bad experience"

"Every time that I go to the Ranch House, I expect a gorgeous outdoor setting, attentive service and really good food. We tried the baked potato soup and the crab cakes. They were both good but the crab cakes were to die for, so light and full of flavor. Our steaks were perfect and the overall atmosphere was excellent."

"We had not been to the Ranch House for a while and were disappointed to find the menu seemed just the same. There seemed to be less food portions and choice limiting and the sweets seemed to be exactly as they have been for years. We also had to wait quite a while (20 minutes) for the check at the end - having to find someone to ask for the check.
There was a party at the next table of quite a few people and they seemed to be drawing all the attention."

"When we arrived the parking lot was full, so we had to park on the street, not a problem as the restaurant is in a residential neighborhood. We checked in at the bar, told them we had a reservation, we were immediately brought to our table outside in a beautiful garden setting. Koi Fish, fountains, lots of trees & bamboo. This is when I found out why the parking lot was full... There was a wedding reception going on with about 80 guests. I said to my wife "I bet service is going to be slow because of this". Well, I was wrong... Service was top notch! The food was great, The water glasses were continually filled. A great evening!

"This is one old-timer that is still clicking! We had been there when it first opened in 1971 at the beginning of the natural foods movement. The grounds are the same although the herb garden is smaller (could have been the time of year) and the decor unchanged. The food was excellent. My rack of lamb was a first class cut and cooked exactly as I ordered it. Husband had the scallops and he said they were also great. Out of the way but if you're staying in Ojai an excellent choice."
