"Went for Sunday brunch with an OpenTable reservation. Hostess couldn't find our reservation and said she was only seating those with reservations even though the entire inside portion of the place was empty, and the patio was about 1 /3 full. After showing her my reservation confirmation email she did seat us. She seemed annoyed that people were actually showing up and wanted to be seated.
Patio is nice but I got the impression that the place is more of a beer garden type spot. The steps and outside patio area are DIRTY with grease and well...dirt... which doesn't smell too great when a breeze comes through. I assume the dirt isn't as noticeable at night with the beer garden atmosphere, but for Sunday brunch it's kind of disgusting."

"The beginning of the experience was very pleasant but then it rapidly took a nose dive. Food came out cold, with significant time in between each person at our tables plates. Service was sporadic and showed a sense of impatience. The food was not savory or special. The whole experience was quite disappointing, especially when it came recommended. I will not be recommending this spot. Sorry."

"I went for dinner. This is one of the best patio restaurants in wickerpark/bucktown. Cocktails are amazing with great variety. Food could be better -- the menu items are excellent but for some reason there is just something missing in the presentation and taste. I go for brunch often and their brunch is fantastic all the way around. Enjoy!"

"I normally love Red Door and have had many good experiences, but this past Sunday was awful. When they called to confirm the reservation, I specifically asked if they would still be running their bottomless mimosa special, since that was the whole reason I made the reservation in the first place. The hostess spoke with the chef and they confirmed that the special would be taking place. The hostess on Sunday also confirmed the special as we were being seated. When the waitress came to the table, she completely contradicted everything we had been told and was very rude about it. I'm not sure what is going on there, but the hostess and chef seem to be on a different page from the wait staff and it was very frustrating as a frequent customer."

"I was just amazed by their spirits and beer selection ... the bartender will make recommendations fit to your taste. Enjoy the environment and sit outside, large tables, heat lamps if needed. Staff was so attentive and helpful ... wonderful service. I will definitely go back again."

"Extensive beer selection, fast and friendly service, and a trendy, romantic atmosphere. My boyfriend and I shared the ricotta gnocchi, which was delicious but definitely too small a serving for sharing. He ordered the Red Door burger, and it was fantastic! I got the lamb neck sloppy joe (it was interesting, but not to die for--next time I'll probably order something else). Both meals came with fries that were seasoned and delicious. I would definitely recommend this place for dates, or even group outings. Additionally, here's a really awesome-looking patio that probably has a great atmosphere during warmer months."

"On our first visit during restaurant week, we found the service to be inordinately slow. However, we enjoyed the food and decided to come back for brunch give Red Door a second try. We were incredibly disappointed. Once our food came, it was again excellent, but we didn't receive our meal until over 75 minutes after our reservation time. They weren't ready to seat us and then pretty much ignored us while we waited for food. The waitress never came back to update us on the status of our food until we asked her, and then she became defensive saying it was because we ordered a burger that took a long time to cook. Come on. Chicago has many restaurants with good food that offer much faster and friendly service. We won't be going back."

"My boyfriend and I really enjoyed our dinner at Red Door. We stuck to sharing small plates because we like to try as many different things as possible, so we started off with the poutine and the baked goat cheese. Both were delicious - the peas and gooey cheese on the poutine were great and I loved the tart apples with the creamy goat cheese. Then, we tried the bone marrow (pretty good, but I found the marrow at Longman & Eagle to be more flavorful) and the bulgogi pork belly, which was really flavorful. We ended the night with a great blueberry cobbler that even my blueberry-skeptic BF enjoyed. The highlight, though, is the bar: the cocktails, the bartender, the selection - all outstanding. Tip: get the 5th Percenter."

"As a member of this industry, I was disappointed. After being there for 15 min we were told that the kitchen was closing. We had to order everything all at once at 830 in the evening! Felt rushed and that our business wasn't wanted. Our server, Danielle, didn't seem to be knowledgable about the menu and definitely wasn't personable. After dinner and dessert we continued to finished our bottle of wine. 45 minutes after being seated, Danielle dropped off our check not even bothering to ask if we wanted anything else. Decided we didn't want to order another bottle and would continue to check out. Server cashed us out and then proceeded to sit and drink at the bar."

Small but cozy restaurant with a very warm vibe to it. Great beer list.

"We had a reservation for a Saturday at 7pm for 4 people. As the host sat us, she said Red Door was on a tight reservation schedule, which I found rude. It was Restaurant Week so they were offering a 3-course meal. My friend received his dessert course 15 min. after the rest of us. The waitress left the bill on the table as he was eating his dessert and came to see if we had paid the bill approximately 2 min. later, which we hadn't. We felt pressure to pay the bill. Shortly after 8:30, my friend had just finished his dessert and two of us still had full drinks. Then the chef asked us to give up the table and move to the bar. All seats in the small bar area were taken and there were at least 10 people standing so there was no room for us."

"The management staff was very down to earth and friendly. This is a face paced energetic spot, with tasty offbeat menu items. Our waitress was very nice, but also very busy. A bit more attention from her would have been great, but regardless we will go back to Red Door. A seat at the bar might be more interesting and also might earn you a homemade cocktail devised by their amazing bar staff- the spirits list here is lovely!"

"This was one of the worst restaurant experiences my bf and I have had in years! We had heard bad reviews, but thought we'd give it a try ourselves. In short, we waited over 30 minutes for our reservation. The bar staff were slow, although the drinks were good. There was one waiter for the entire front half of the restaurant and gave us the worst service I have maybe ever had. He got my order wrong so we ended up eating by ourselves separately. I ordered the gnocchi and had (I counted bc it looked so pathetic!!) 9 gnocchi on my plate. My bf's food was way too salty. All this for around $90! Do not, I repeat, do not go there-EVER!"

"Restaurant week menu was amazing, and our server, Jay, was very knowledgable and explained each course and selection we made to let us know how each selection was prepared. The food was sensational and cannot wait to go back and try other menu items. The ambiance at the restaurant was amazing...gem of a restaurant. Cannot wait for their outdoor patio to be open in the summer, and for the Red Door martini to come back. (I highly recommend this drink!)"

"We had a reservation at 9:00 and did not get seated until 10:00 yet they were still taking Open Table reservations. Also, when we were finally sat, the server informed us that they were out of two of the nine items on their menu. When I politely expressed frustration, I was met with extreme defensiveness from the server. I would not recommend."

"Went for restaurant week. To our luck they had run out of the skate and were substituting scallops. They came with a butternut squash purée and lemons. It was delicious. The gnocchi was alright, needed something a bit more. The truffle broth didn't stick to the gnocchi well. Portions were small, which we were fine with, since we were getting a great deal but they didn't offer anything from their normal menu. We ended up leaving and getting food somewhere else after. Great service and drink menu. Would go back!"

"I was very impressed by both the food and service. I went for restaurant week and was happy with the variety of choices available and they were all delicious! The Bulgogi pork belly appetizer was amazing. We also had great short ribs and scallops for our entree. The desserts were unique and tasty. Our server was knowledgeable and friendly. The only negative part of the experience was that it was so loud. It really did affect the dining experience in a negative way but apart from that, it was amazing food!"

"Went for Restaurant Week. Had a delicious three course meal; baked goat cheese, Hoisin glazed short ribs and Nutella dessert. Extensive, unique drink selection. The waitress was very good, however, I don't think the restaurant was quite prepared for the influx of customers during Restaurant Week, as it took a long time to get our food, and other tables waited significantly longer than us. I am assuming this is not the norm. As said, the food was great, especially the Hoisin glazed short ribs. I would definitely go back for the short ribs alone, however, when looking at the regular menu, we noticed the short ribs are no longer on the menu, which is very disappointing. Cute place, kind of noisy, but a nice find!!"

"I went here for my birthday yesterday with 12 girls. We had order the unlimited mimosas + entree for $22. The waiter took forever to take our order and it took about an hour for him to bring our second round of drinks. I went to the bar to inquire about our drinks and the bartender told me they had ran out of champagne and they needed to get more. This was frustrating because they knew in advance a big group would be coming in to celebrate a birthday. We were finally brought our second drink which our waiter said would be on the house but we had all ordered the UNLIMITED package. He then brought us shots of pure vodka with no one at the table took.He also charged us all for the unlimited package and we each only had two drinks.Disappointed."

"Nice neighborhood place. The food was very good and service outstanding! I'm a bourbon/whiskey drinker and they had a very respectable list to choose from. All in all, this is a nice place to eat and drink. I would recommend it and will likely go back."
