"My out-of-town friends, my wife and I loved the energy of this place and the to-die-for food. We went with two small and two regular prix fixe dinners and seemed to have tasted the entire menu (not quite), each dish more amazing than the previous one! The chili lime peanuts were great, but then so were the oyster shooters, wonderful blends of incredible flavours -- then the humpback shrimp, dan dan kohirabi noodle salad, mushrooms and snap peas, beef tartare, gnocchi, they were all great. The most amazing dishes came at the end, pork belly rice bowl, scallops and polenta and half duck with carrot cake sauce -- but the crowd favourite was the dessert, meringue with yuzu curd, vanilla and celery, a light decadent piece of heaven. Amazing!"

"creative food - we went with the smaller prix fixe option - all the dishes delicious. Service was very friendly and efficient without being obtrusive. Atmosphere was light and clean. Good value. And there was no hullabaloo from the ne'er-do-wells while we were there."

"The cocktails and the food were simply amazing! The kitchen and the entire operation is run with extreme professionalism. I recommend this to anyone - it is fantastic. We had the oyster shooter (best ever), rice crackers (yummy), duck croquettes with beet ketchup (wow) and elk ssam (elk was beautifully cooked, but the dish lacked "oomph") - we both had late lunches so regretted being unable to eat more. The cocktails were some the BEST I've ever had anywhere, and I travel regularly to major global cities."

"Had another great night at Pidgin on Saturday, definitely one the most interesting menus in town. Loved the humpback shrimp, pork belly rice bowl, roasted peppers. As with our previous visit, we were impressed with the service. It is great to have people that are so knowledgeable about, and actually care about, the food and drinks - I welcome contrast from the beautiful but vaguely vacant servers that are found way too often at Vancouver restaurants."

"My second trip to Pidgin did not disappoint. This time I brought out of town guests and they were super impressed. The al dente potatoes and humpback shrimp are not to be missed. The protestor situation is the only thing that puts a bit of a damper on the situation, but the restaurant handles it well calling ahead to advise of the situation and allowing you to make your own decisions. All in all, one of best restaurant experiences currently available in Vancouver."

"if you have not been to pidgin it's your loss. the food is distinct & special. service top notch & zero demonstrators when we visited. we were five & we unanimously voted pidgin to be at the top of our list. we are all going back ASAP! the humpback shrimp, foie gras, pork belly, uni, scallops, dan dan noodles & the list goes on & on. wait but don't stop there. we tried all 3 desserts & OOOOOOHLALA! all 3 were light and so well worth it. thank you for such a memorable dining experience, pidgin ;)"

"Pidgin is simply wonderful. The room is beautiful, and the service splendid. We were dithering about ordering whilst tucking into the wine, and told the server we wanted a vegetarian meal. He offered to take care of choosing for us, which we accepted, and his choices were fabulous. Creative, tasty, and far different from the usual pastas etc. that are fobbed off on vegetarians in many places. Reasonably priced, too. Nothing not to like about Pidgin."

"Dont be put off by the ongoing undeserved protesters. These folk deserve support. We have been twice so far and plan to return and return.
Once inside you will find an attractive, warm but beautifully lit restaurant. The seating is comfortable, the detailing smashing and all is contemporary yet upbeat.
Once the menu is in hand, it is hard to choose where to begin on this journey of the most amazing tapas/Japanese/fusion treats. The flavors are fresh and somehow each one stands alone making each mouthful a perfect. The food presentation is astoundingly creative too.
As you can see, we cannot compliment this hard working young gang enough. All is harmonious. The diverse clientele covers all ages, every nationality."

The food was inventive, well-presented and tasty, the room fantastic, and if not for those pesky anti-gentrification protesters outside upon arrival, the evening would have been perfect (although on a scale of 1 to 100, it was still at 97, 100 without the protesters)! "The servings were small, overpriced. When one serving had three scallops and we had four in our party we asked if it would be possible to get four scallops. Server said no, we would have to get 2 servings. At the end of the meal we wanted tea and coffee with our desserts. They "do not serve hot drinks"

"We were so excited to try PiDGiN even before it opened and the protesters took up residence, we made a res for my Birthday. Protesters were a non-issue. We showed up a little early and our table was ready, front door staff was friendly. The entire restaurant had great atmosphere. Our first disapointment was the excessive amount of time it took our server to take our drink order, by the time she came we had covered the entire food menu and decided on our food order as well. We had the Chicken Wings, Humpback Shrimp, Roasted Vegetables and the Calamari. All were tiny and bland, none of them were good enough to want more or return again. We ended up going to dinner after because we were still starving. -locals from Coal Harbour"

"Overall, food was good but they were not outstanding. Portion is very small for what they charge. An option to order bread/crostini would be nice. Also I found wine list to be very expensive. Cheapest bottle of wine was $56. They should offer at least one bottle in $40 - $50 range.The restaurant lacked in the ambience –they should have a white linen table cloth. Currently they look like a nice lunch place, not place for special dinner. They should offer amuse-bouche at least, if they are trying to be an upscale restaurant."

"Pidgin's environment enraptured me right from its entry-way: with its understated white millwork, exposed ductwork and unique wrought-metal warmly golden lighting system you immediately feel like you're in the warmest, funnest, most interesting spot in the city. Service was fast and friendly; food wasn't as tasty as expected.(Beef carpaccio was bland; chicken-wings too breaded with gooey sauce that seemed bottled; humpback shrimp was brightly flavoured but annoyingly gummy. Highlight was scallops with polenta frites--excellent!) Dearth of by-the-glass wine choices (nothing bubbly by the glass) was a drag; total lack of coffee or tea made the end of the meal seem incomplete. Keep practising in the kitchen and I'll come back."

"This restaurant which we were eagerly anticipating, disappointed us. constitutes the special, it doesn't bode well for this restaurant. The special that was recommended was a real let down in every way, the Beef Tataki was also a huge letdown, the scallops with polenta fries were very good but couldn't make up for the disappointment of the other 2 dishes. We will likely try it again - maybe it was because it was Monday and the chef was not on site but still, for a birthday celebration it was a huge letdown."

"we enjoyed our dinner here at PiDGiN and was impressed with the drink menu. most meals are more tapas sized and if you enjoyed one, you can order a second plate. one thing i dont understand is why do they give (not just PiDGiN) you 3 scallops when 2 people are sitting at a table...hmmm. anyways...we enjoyed our scallops, steelhead and especially the deep fried dark chocolate balls...will be back to try the other menu items soon."

"Found the service slow and our server lacked knowledge of the menu and was confused on what we ordered, not only at our table, but the table on either side of ours. Oyster shooter was almost frozen, Sea urchin with cauliflower was bland, we liked the calamari but it was on the cold side. The foie gras rice bowl was again on the cold side and we didn't find any chestnuts. When the server asked how our meal was we told her our feedback and that was the last we saw of her. On the positive, the food runners who I'm pretty sure are management did a great job at explaining the dishes when dropping off."

"I went to Pidgin with a friend after a movie. We sat at the bar as it was very crowded. We had a wonderful time interacting with the bar tender and other people sitting at the bar. We were given suggestions by other patrons and enjoyed everything we ate. All five dishes we ordered were excellent. I look forward to going back again. Thank you Pidgin for opening up in this area as I believe we need to pump some new life into the neighbourhood. Apparently some would disagree with that tho!"
