Amrheins has been a Boston tradition since 1890. For over a century, diners throughout the city of Boston have been welcomed into Amrheins to enjoy quality meals amongst friends and neighbors. Today that tradition continues in our updated facility. Despite the renovations in 2005, Amrheins is still full of history. Amrheins is the proud home of the oldest hand carved bar in America and still has the first Draft Beer pump in Boston on display. But what really makes Amrheins special is its dedication to quality cuisine and superior service. We hope that you join us again soon.
"Our family frequents Amrheins for their Sunday brunch and decided to spend our Mother's day there. It was similar to the typical Sunday brunch which is consistently very good. Amrheins has yet to disappoint."

"This was our first visit here, the food was excellent. We had the seafood alfredo which was the best we ever had, and the filet. The strawberry shortcake was fresh and was plentiful! We we be back for sure. Also, out waitress Meg was terrific!"

"If I lived in Boston this might become a favorite resturant. Good menu nice atmosphere. As a traverler I wouldn't go again. Food preperation was not very good. Steaks were not cooked to order. when we told the watress shee was indifferent. For a only in town once dining spot I would not recommend it."

"The food was Ok but the service so slow that we finally just asked for the check and skipped dessert. It was way too loud for dinner, more of a strictly bar atmosphere."

"I went for the buffet brunch. I wasn't impressed at all. It's basic foods like bacon, sausage, scrambled eggs, wings, pasta, steak tips, salmon, fruit, dessert and bread. The only thing that stood out was the caramel cheesecake and chocolate cake. They were delicious."

"Amrheins brunch never fails to impress. Fresh raspberries for the yogurt, corn beef hash that is amazing and a dessert table that included bite sized and huge selections. Our waitress was attentive but not overbearing. We never felt rushed even though there was a line of people waiting. It's a plus that they take reservations for parties of 6 or more for brunch."

"We were visiting colleges and took 3 soon to be and current college kids. They were giddy w/ both the quality and quantity of food. Our waitress was fabulous! Parking was easy (with an attendant) and the restaurant has so much character. Great referral from the Hampton Inn Crosstown. Would definitely go again."

"Nice place to meet friends for dinner or drinks. The bar area is roomy and can be loud on a Friday night. Met friends and ate in the dining room so we could talk. Food was so-so and one special appetizer was overpriced: 3 scallops for $11? Our server was great - she was attentive and friendly and didn't rush us. Would go again. Being able to park in the lot was nice."

"I went here on Thursday, 3/14/13 with a group of women who hadn't seen each other in months. We know it's a madhouse to try to get into Amrhein's on St. Patrick's day but with a little advance planning, you can get your fix of shepherd's pie or boiled dinner and good ol' American fare on this solid menu. Good value. Nice friendly server let us linger and get caught up. Of course we'll be back!"

"I met friends for lunch on a Saturday and we all agreed it was a fun new place. The menu was filled with tempting offers of comfort food that made choosing nicely difficult. The specials were fresh and innovative. Although pleasant, our waitstaff wasn't very attentive and needed to be reminded to bring coffee and water (but didn't acknowledge or apologize that she had forgotten). Another bonus was the parking lot adjacent to the restaurant. We will go back. (Wish Open Table points were earned though.)"

"I have celiac issues and need to eat gluten free. I was terribly disappointed to see that they no longer have a separate GF menu. The server said that she could work with the kitchen and they could adjust individual dishes as needed. But looking at the menu I saw pretty much nothing that could be adjusted -- most food was either breaded or fried or included bread or pasta. No broiled or grilled fish. The only item I could eat was salad and they "adjusted" that for me by substituting balsamic dressing. This was a birthday celebration (for me) and I was disappointed to have to order salad. On the positive side, they now have a flourless cake on the dessert menu."

"What a nice surprise. We were a bit off the grid with our hotel while staying in Boston requiring the nine of us to take the T or shuttle busses everywhere. We were all tired the last night of our stay (five of us are under age 10), so I looked on the hotel website for dining options & noticed Amrheins offers a shuttle to & from their place. We took a chance and it paid off! Our driver was a native & super nice. Our food was excellent. I even got to order poutine, which I have been craving along with a Stella and a healthy salad to cut the guilt factor of gravy & fries down a bit! ; ) We loved the ambiance and everyone was friendly. We had a great time and would easily go again when we travel to Boston!"

"Nice find in the South Boston. Not an area we frequent but was ideal for dinner before Boston Lyric Opera performance at Artists for Humanity Epicenter. A short walk from Epicenter."

"We have always enjoyed Amrheins, having eaten there many times in the past. I was disappointed with my dish of Shrimp Scampi, a dish I usually order whenever I dine out. While the shrimp were wonderful, very large and cooked just right, I was disappointed with the flavor, bland to say the least. Years ago Amrheins served a dish called 'Chicken Amrhein'. It was so wonderful I keep looking for that flavor. My son ordered a Hamburger, which he enjoyed and my husband ordered Shepherd's Pie and said that he did not like the taste as much as he has had in other restaurants. He also did not like the presentation, served in a small dish.
My Husband & Son while waiting for me to arrive, had wonderful drinks at the bar."

"The stroganoff was terrible, way to much sherry, had to send it back to the kitchen. The Scallops were cooked well but the butternut squash risotto was near raw and crunchy. The Poutine was big enough to share with two people and filling topped with shredded beef. Was great. I would not go back, however I hear the brunch is good!"

"Very good dinner. I got the lobster pie special and it had big old chunks of lobster. My boyfriend got the clam pizza that had clams and bacon on top. Yup! The service was not the best...but it was a Saturday night so we will cut him some slack. The ambiance is good. I'd definitely go back. Dinner was not as good as their brunch buffet (which is out of the world), but still a good treat if you're in the area."
