"We went there to celebrate Father's Day. It was my husband's choice. Our server, Jared, was fantastic. He was very knowledgable about the menu, and gave great food recommendations. He interacted wonderfully with our two boys. Great attention to detail. A fun evening for all!"

"Siena Tavern is my new favorite spot. The food is fantastic and the service is consistently top-notch. This is a great spot for a date or a special occasion. I recently brought my Dad and his girlfriend for Father's Day and they loved it. On my first visit I went just with my boyfriend. Siena is great for all parties sizes, all ages, all people. New favorite item on my 2nd visit:
- Coccoli crispy dough, stracchino cheese, prosciutto di parma, truffle honey (HEAVEN!)
- Scallop crudo (spicy, zesty, pepper crust on the scallops are amazing)"

"I've been to Siena Tavern twice for lunch and had terrible service both times. Getting a drink refill took more than 15 minutes (from the time I was asked if I wanted one, which was also longer than acceptable) more than once. The food might have been good except it was cold by the time it arrived at our table. This restaurant has a lot of potential but needs to make some serious adjustments to its service before I'd return or recommend it to anyone."

"Love the decor, vibe, the #2 cocktail and especially the Gnocchi with truffle cream, fired sage and crispy pancetta was about the single best thing I ever ate. The beet salad was over-sized and fantastic for sharing. The smoked mozzarella with escarole was excellent. The roasted cauliflower was good and even better after requesting salt and pepper and mixing the ingredients from the bottom of the dish with the top. My only question is why is it so difficult to get a reservation when the restaurant is half empty? We had to eat at 3:45 because there were no reservations available any later and when we left at 5:30 the place was at least half empty still. Makes me wonder if you could just walk up and get in when no reservations are available."

"Highly recommended for brunch on the weekends. Many unique breakfast items as well as a limited lunch menu, but you can avoid the dinner crowds and actually get a reservation."

"The grilled octopus was a highlight. So was the lobster club with the sage parmesan fries. Our kids loved the bolognese sauce and it was hard to not want to eat their dish, too. You can tell the ingredients are top quality."

"We were super excited to try this new spot, as it was rated in the top 20 new restaurants of 2013, but were disappointed in the food and the wait times. Our reservation was for 9:00 pm (late for us but we really wanted to experience this new place). Once we were seated, our waiter was very nice and attentive, however we waited over an hour and a half for our food to arrive. Once it finally did come, all three dishes were just "ok." not very tasteful. We had the proscuitto pear pizza, the truffle mushroom pizza and the ossobuco. We also had the buffala mozarella appetizer."

"Stalked this place for a reservation to open up on a Saturady night and was skeptical to see if the food would be worth the wait....IT WAS. Tried five different pasta dishes with a group of four and all were Amazing. Best was the spaghetti with Crab meat or the gnocchi with crispy pancetta. Would go here again in a heartbeat. Also got the kobe meatball for an appetizer and the mini donughts for dessert. Neither of these disapointed."

"Excellent evening. There were five in our group, and we got there early for our reservation on a Friday night. They seated us right away. Great food, great service, great drinks. The only group complaint was the crust on the pizza was a bit dough-y and soggy. We had two orders of the coccoli (delicious), and shared everything else. Gnocchi was melt in your mouth good, ravioli was amazing, and we all loved the lasagna. We would all go back again!"

"We were a party of 6 for a birthday celebration. The servers could not have been nicer. In fact all of the staff were lovely - whether they were opening the wine, dropping off food or providing helpful menu selections. We had a little of everything - the meatball, the pizza (mushroom) the crab spaghetti, the gnocchi...all of it was very good! Even the parmesan fries were fantastic. And the Bombolini dessert was so delicious - the different "injectable" sauces were all fantastic. I wanted to take the container of whiskey-caramel sauce home with me (I resisted).
We got a cozy corner booth and never felt rushed or crowded.
We're going back soon to try the rest of the menu...the caramelized waffle was so tempting!"

"If you can make a reser in advance ask for one of the tables on the raised level on the west side of the restaurant. It's a little quieter and you can see all the action.
Coccoli - delicious, octopus was small but deep in flavor - some didn't like the celery in it.
Brussell sprout salad lacked salt.
Double cut veal chop was tender and delicious- big enough for two, served with sauteed rapini and an arugula salad.
Osso buco was fall off the bone tender with a great farro risotto.
Short rib ravioli had plenty of beef flavor and a rich brown demi glace sauce.
The pizza with prosciutto and arugula reminded us of many eaten in Italy - fresh.
Orrecchietti with merguez and saffron cream was very intensely flavored - delicious but almost too much!"

"Unfortunately, the food was generally salty and just bad, the pizza overcooked, the pasta undercooked, etc. The poor quality of the food perhaps could have been overlooked if the service had not been so terrible. To top things off, dining here felt like eating in the middle of a night club. "Energetic" does not begin to describe the din. It was impossible to hear anyone at the table without yelling. To sum things up, Sienna Tavern suffers from an identity crisis resulting from an unfortunate melding of a want-to-be Soho hotspot without the street credibility, an after-hours Vegas strip nightclub, and a run-of-the-mill pub without the hospitality given the low-level service. We had looked forward to this dinner, but will not be returning."

"My friend and I came for lunch because of Siena Taverna's reputation. We were not disappointed. The Coccholi and the octopus were incredble. The coccholi, when stuffed with the cheese wrapped with prosciutti, are heavenly - extremely well balanced and harmonious on your palate. The Octopus was tender but firm and the sauce well matched. Our waiter Gregory made wonderful suggestions for the wine pairings. The gnocci were stodgy and really needs to be improved."

"I had high expectations for my meal at Siena Tavern when I finally managed to secure a table. Unfortunately, this is not authentic Italian food like we are led to believe. Chicago doesn't need another pseudo-Italian restaurant where pasta is smothered in an ocean of cream. Not recommended."

"This Memorial Day weekend was no exception. We snagged a reservation for six on Sunday afternoon and couldn't be happier that we did. They were testing out the new weekend brunch menu before rolling it out in early June. Half my party had brunch selections, the other half homemade pasta.

All the food was absolutely delicious. A great variety and the flavors were spot on. Portion sizes were just right for lunch, filling but didn't leave us in a food coma for the rest of the day. There was so many delicious sounding options to choose from, can't wait to return and give the pizza a shot and, of course, that epic looking meatball."

"My husband and I recently dined for lunch on a Sunday. The food was outstanding! The decor of the restaurant is different and very warm....a must see in my opinion. We had the mussels and clams, which were great. The kale salad is TO DIE FOR. I also had the tortellacci, which was fresh and unbelievably flavorable. In all, I would definitely return for the food and ambience.

My disappointment came from the fact that I booked this table online and mentioned it was a birthday lunch. There was no mention of a birthday, and nothing offered. I had read other reviews of celebrants receiving a birthday treat, but this fact was overlooked. What is the point of mentioning it for it to be ignored? Big flaw in my book."

"We had a great time at Siena Tavern! The food was incredible, and our server was friendly, knowledgeable, and paid just the right amount of attention to us. "Siena Tavern has broad appeal. From a vibrant bar scene, with two bars, to outstanding service in the dining room with a menu that can meet many tastes and budgets, it is a terrific choice. The wine list is excellent, with some good modestly priced wines to super-premium selections. When the outdoor dining opens, it will surely be a place not to miss."

"This was my first time eating at this restaurant. I was impressed that I received a phone call confirming my reservation 24 hrs in advance. This was truly an experience. Wonderful atmosphere, wonderful cuisine. So glad I made plans to drive 5 hours to dine. I would highly recommend this restaurant."

"We went to Siena Tavern for lunch on our last day in Chicago. The food was great and in particular two pasta dishes stood out, the gnocchi and the roasted carrot torteloni. Everyone loved these pasta dishes. The food was very fresh, tasty and nicely presented. We all had different flavours of ice cream for desert and we loved them all.
As another treat we met the chef and owner, Fabio Viviani! We're fans of the Chew and have seen Fabio on that show a few times. My teenage daughter loves to cook and was thrilled when we got to meet Fabio and have pictures taken with him. The only disappointment was he didn't have a copy of his cookbook to give to her."

"Booked Siena Tavern on a Friday night and could not have been more pleased. The atmosphere and crowd was lively. Our waitress Casey was very helpful and made some great suggestions. Kale salad was fresh, gnocchi... CRAZY good we ordered a second. Meatball appetizer and chicken and potatoes were a few of the highlights. Our group also had the doughnuts that we all thought were delicious. One of the reasons we will be back is the Chef Fabio stopped by our table to check on dinner and that is what makes a restaurant great. Plus, he is gorgeous!! Go check out Siena Tavern if you want authentic Italian Food in a fun atmosphere.."

"Siena Tavern was delicious!! Loved Fabio on Top Chef and was soo excited to try the restaurant on my trip to Chicago. ..and I wasn't disappointed!! Great atmosphere and staff! Food was delicious. ..must try the gnocchi(melts in your your mouth) and the short rib ravioli!!"

"Refreshing River North addition. Great menu. Recommend: pizzas - still dreaming about prosciutto pizza w/grilled pears and baby arugula -- house-made pasta -- pappardelle w/first rate bolognese, short rib ravioli and butternut squash tortellacci.

Impossible to get a reservation. Must call weeks in advance, even for lunch, unless 1:30 pm or later."

"It is definitely really popular and trendy now since its still new and has a famous chef/owner in Fabio, so it is tough to get in most nights. Weekend days are a breeze if you are in the River North hood (just a tip). Pizza is always great - get the spicy pepperoni. Pasta was amazing, orechetti won me over. The octopus is delicious and the meatball is a definite must every time!!"

"Was in for dinner recently and had a great experience. Hosts were right on top of our reservation, and the bartenders were attentive when we ordered drinks. Hybrid modern/rustic decor with deep wood colors gave the place a cozy feel. Our server was very knowledgeable about the menu and regularly engaged us in conversation! She made up for the fact that the bus boys kept removing our utensils after every course and we had to ask 2 separate times for forks so we could eat our meals.

Kobe meatball app was excellent! For entrees, we had the gnocchi, which was the best I've had to date at any Italian restaurant - a must try! If you are even remotely hungry after the generous dinner portions, try the dessert menu which is also outstanding."

"great birthday lunch Sunday at Siena Tavern. 2:00 pm was not so crowded, I recommend going at a time without the huge crowds..very attentive and good suggestions from knowledge able and friendly waiter. .accommodated our special requests with no problem.
Felt very comfortable and well taken care of. .een the Owner came over to chat with us.. .very sincere guy .. .happy to hear of his Successes !! now he is in Chicago. a great city !! Good Choice!
I will definitely return .. the Brunch Items they had sounded delicious. But we had pastas, pizzas, mozzarella and Cuccioli appetizers. and gelato, Bomboloni and Chocolate butter cake for dessert. . gave a free gelato with bday Candle ! Grazie !!

"We went for a birthday celebration for lunch since we couldn't get a good time for a dinner reservation. The service was fantastic. We started with the grilled octopus appetizer - very tasty. My daughter had the lobster hash on the brunch menu which she liked, and I had the lobster sandwich. The sandwich was loaded with large pieces of lobster - really good. For dessert we couldn't decide on which flavor of gelato we wanted. From reading the menu, it looked like 3 different flavors, so I ordered all 3. However, the menu was deceiving - it was actually 5 flavors. All were good, but our favorites were the olive oil, lemon sea salt, and the lavender. To top off our celebration, celebrity owne rFabio Viviani came in and gave us a wave!"
