"We were a party of 6 and were seated in a corner booth so we could only talk with the person sitting next to us. Our server was very attentive and because this was our first time to your restaurant, we had questions about the wine and the menu items. She was very good at explaining every dish we asked about. Unfortunately, the background noise was so loud that we had a hard time hearing everything she said. The food was absolutely delicious and we would all go back for the food but the noise level put a damper on our evening.

Two groups of 16 each just outside our corner booth created an unbearable noise. When leaving, we all noticed the sound level was down elsewhere."

"The calimari antipasti was overly salty. The ahi ahi tuna steak special was appropriately rare, but was tasteless. It was served on a bed of tasteless green beans. The breaded veal scaloppine was overly salty and tatsted of old grease. The balsamic carrots. The sauce was unremarkable to tasteless. The carrots were hard as rocks."

"Wow! The rooftop bar is the best. Happy hour everyday - even weekends. Sweeping views - hip crowd of many ages. Fun drinks - 6 TVs - interesting food menu that is NOT "bar food". We had these giant risotto and sausage and cheese balls that were deep fried and served with red sauce. Amazing. I also had a Mojito that was great. We ended up eating dinner in the dining room after several drinks on the deck. My husband had the linguini in clam and I had the brick chicken and spinach. superb! a complimentary creme brulees for my husbands birthday also. This would be a great spot for a business dinner with people from out of town because you can practically reach out and touch the St. Paul Cathedral from the deck. Breathtaking!"

"We had dinner at Louis on a Saturday night.
We ordered the Bruschetta. It was cold, like right out of a refrigerator, and the underlying bread was very soggy, leading us to believe that this item is made in the morning and then sits in a refrigerator until it is served in the evening, The topping had cannellini beans in it---really? I have never, never seen beans on bruschetta. Weird.
The rest of our meal was fair to poor--my husband had the veal scallopini and could barely cut through it. I had the chicken florentine and it was very, very salty.
After dinner we went out to the rooftop patio--this is a gem. Great location, great energy.
So, skip dinner. Go to the rooftop bar."

"This was your first time at Louis the found has a real Italian feel and flavor. I had the Mama C Family Sugo with the Italian sausage. The sausage was very good and had the right spices and flavor. As my grandparents came from Sicily this is the first time I have ever seen a menu say Sugo."

"My wife had the chicken Marsala and was disappointed in the lack of flavor. My veal was good, as were the anti-pasta. Service was good, and the ambiance is fine. However, to justify the prices the food must be excellent every time."

"Overall, just okay at best. Salads and bread were good. Server warned the All' Arrabbiata sauce was going to be spicy, which is why I ordered it, however, it had no kick at all. My mom removed all the clams from the shells in her linguine and clams, but found more shells with no clams mixed into the pasta and she almost broke a tooth (they did remove it from the bill). My husband thought his chicken was good, but it appeared he got a different chicken dish than the one he ordered (realized later), and my father loved his spaghetti that came with a large sausage link. Our server was okay, but didn't mention the special until we asked if there were any specials. Also, it was very difficult to hear him because of the noise level."

"We went on a Friday night and had dinner reservations at 6:15, if was very pack. The noise level inside the restaurant was very loud it was hard to carry a conversation. The food and staff were excellent, but the sound level needs to be worked on."

"The food was wonderful. We enjoyed the seafood/vegetable plate, as well as the cheese and fruit plate for an appetizer. Both were delicious. The porterhouse steak was huge, so if you choose it, then make sure that you are very hungry! All of the entree portions are generous and in fact 4 out of the 5 of us took home part of our meals in a box. Our son was the only one who could finish his veal chop entree. I had the brick chicken and my husband and one of our daughters had the lasagna. Everything was beautifully presented and tasty. The men enjoyed several different beers, and I enjoyed a fabulous Cosmo. For dessert the table shared the Chocolate offering and a piece of cheesecake. Both pleased."

"Considering the money that was spent on upgrading Cossettas, I was so disappointed in the food. My veal scallopini was tough which suggested the veal had not been pounded before it was cooked - the carrots were way too el dente. The prices were reasonable however I would have been happy to pay more for better. Does not hold a candle to LaGrolla up the street."

"The cheese and fruit appetizer was great. There was an excellent selection of cheeses and the fruit was fresh. We had to order extra crostini because too few were provided with the plate. Gelato dessert was tasty, too! Our two entrees were adequate (steak and spaghetti with sausage), but not exceptional. Dining atmosphere was comfortable and patio view was great! We'll be back."

"We have always loved Cosetta's and were excited to try the new rooftop restaurant, Louis. Since the pizza and food downstairs has always been good, we expected no less from the sit down experience. The food was just ok. We had the Bruschetta, Chicken Marsala and Lasagna. The lasagna was incredibly salty and burnt on the sides. The Bruschetta was good but it had some undercooked white beans on it that could have been left out. The Chicken Marsala lacked flavor and was served with some sort of grits that also were quite flavorless. The wait staff was friendly and attentive and the ambiance was great, but considering the food being sub par we will stick with eating downstairs at Cosetta's from now on."

"We had a group of 6 on a Tuesday night. The table was too big for 6, and the noise level was so loud we could not visit easily. One member of our group wears a hearing aid and he couldn't hear at all with all the noise.
Our service was good and the food was as stated on the menu. I think I will use the lower level cafeteria style restaurant from now on since that level was wide open and we could have moved to a more suitable area.
Parking is also a challenge. Signage could be better for lots and ramps available for after six parking."

"First time at Louis, it was fabulous! Great cosmo's, great appetizers, we especially loved the sausage with peppers and the beet salad! Wonderful dinner! We went with 4 people, each of us had a different meal and we all LOVED them! Also, great dessert! Can't wait to go on a warmer evening and really enjoy the outdoor bar/deck. We did have a drink out there and the heaters were great, but looking forward to doing this on a warm summer eve!"

"We came to Louis for our anniversary dinner. The food was good, service quite good, and the room is attractive, but way too noisy. We ate in the same room as the bar. Maybe the room off to the side & down a few steps might be better, but where we were was too noisy to have a conversation without raising your voice. Since we are senior citizens, it won't be on our list of regular places to eat, maybe the younger crowd is more likely to enjoy that atmosphere."

"I have enjoyed the deli food area for years. The restaurant was very nice but the food is very overpriced and moderate serving size. The side salads were $8 and small. I had the spaghetti with 2 meatballs and the meatballs were very small, but the sausage that was served with the spaghetti was a generous size. I would only go back to eat at the deli area."

"The food was good albeit a bit pricey but the service was great. "We expected more attentive service and higher quality food. The beet salad was merely ok, and I love beets. It lacked the seasoning of dressing and the goat cheese, both of which were minimal. The seafood pasta was fine but not extraordinary. It ifs raining outside and you're near the deck door, you're going to get wet as diners pour in and out as the weather changes. The general ambience was noisy."

"Yes the place is very noisy but a fun place to go. Great outdoor bar with a look over St Paul. Enjoyed going to the pastry bar on first floor after dinner. "Loved the space, particularly the rooftop bar and patio. But the food was just so-so. Had bruschetta, orecchiette with sausage and broccoli rave, and the fish of e day (grilled tuna with tomato and jalapeño sauce). All were fine, but I would never pay that much for them again. I'll definitely be back for drinks on the patio, probably not back for a meal any time soon. Service was very good."

"Food was great but went on a Saturday night and it was so noisy that you couldn't carry on a conversation at the table without straining to hear. On a weeknight when less crowded it was less crowded. The biggest "bad" that I cannot believe they did not plan for during the remodel was the parking situation.er re

If you want to pay $8 to valet (which I did after realizing I was going to have to wait 10 minutes to turn off of 7th street due to the line of cars waiting to get into the lot) it is not an issue, but just wasn't used to having to pay to park at the "old" Cosettas.

Word to the wise....go on a weeknight and parking might not be a problem??"

"This was my first time at Cassettas since their remodel. It was beautiful! Our meal was great. The only downside to our dinner was the table of four next to us was very loud! Sometimes we had to shout to each other to be heard. Food was great and I would go back again!"

"By far the best Linguini and Clams I ever had in this state...Caesar salad was awesome as well. If you have never been to Cosetta before...Now is definitely the time to get there!!!

"overall experience was wonderful, two dear friends who were allowed to converse and enjoy the evening at our own speed. Waitresses knowledge of the menu was excellent. Two entirely different entrees, both which were tremendous ! My tuna was perfectly done, her short ribs were the best I've ever tasted. I'm sitting here now thinking of the different occasions I can celebrate at Louis'. A great evening from 7:30 to almost 11:00, exactly what we had hoped for."

"The food was very good and our waiter made excellent suggestions. The restaurant is VERY loud. We were a party of four and we often could not hear across the table. I will try again, maybe on a week night, to see if it's possible to carry on a conversation. The patio is beautiful and may be less noisy."

"They didn't heed my request for a table instead of a booth...I should have left at that point. The noise was excessive. Case in point one of my guests asked for an espresso after dinner and the waitress said they didn't offer that and then came back and asked if anyone would like an espresso or dessert! Service was slow to sporadic...I rarely tip less that 20% but I felt that 10% this time was almost condoning bad service."

"The atmosphere was fabulous, energetic and electric! Lots of activity going on, great people watching! Excellent food, again, this is a repeat for my husband and I. Met friends from Eden Prairie, they were super pleased too. This will be a regular spot for us! Can't wait for warmer weather to experience the deck top patio."

"Being new to the area I asked a friend whose family is from Italy where he goes when he wants to eat Italian. Without hesitation he said Cosettas. When he's cooking at home he gets the ingredients from their market. We were not dissapointed! The food and service were both excellent. I was delighted to find they had a gluten free menu. This has been added to our list of favorite restaurants in the Twin Cities!"

"Carpaccio good but sliced so thin it was like paste on the plate. Ahi tuna very good, but not a very flavor-filled coating/crust.
Asked twice for bread, never asked if we wanted a second round of drinks. Nearly 'shout to have a conversation' noise level."

"Louis had a lot to offer, but not for everyone. They have a fine dining menu, excellent service, and a good selection of wines. The one big draw back is the noise level. I could not hear what was being said on the other side of the table. The menu, wines and service are fine dining. The environment is sports bar. The hike up the multiple flights of stairs my send some away. It was not apparent if there is an elevator service. My father was a restaurateur in New York and Florida. Our restaurants were New York two stars, which were very hard to get. Louis could be a three star if it were not for the noise. The casual loud environment might be the best fit for leveraging the Cossettta's current following."

"We recently had dinner there. The food and service was very good, however the restaurant was so noisy, I could barely hear the person with me. I also think that the parking situation is so bad . If you are going to go there for dinner, plan on parking at the pay lot on smith."

"The lack of tablecloths and comfortable chairs - plus the intrusive noise levels - keep this restaurant very much in the cafe/bistro category, not in the "restaurante" category. Also, in Italy, the pasta course is a small course served prior to the main course (that's why it is labeled "Primi" on the menu). At Louis, pastas are served in the huge American style, but still labeled "Primi". Anyone looking for a true Italian experience would be misled by the label, and end up with far too much food if ordering an entree as well. The entrees (labeled "Secundi") are a bit pricey for the veal and beef options, given the cafe nature of the place."

"Had great expectations for Louis but did not really enjoy the meal. It was almost impossible to get into the free parking lot - cars were piled up waiting to enter. we did not find out until too late that parking is validated at a nearby ramp.

Service was pretty slow, because the place was very busy. We did get our dessert for free due to a long wait. My pasta was good but not great. My wife's chicken "Rizzo" with sausage, fried potatoes and peppers was excellent and enough to make 3 meals. The salads were good, the tiramisu was not flavorful and slightly dry.

My biggest complaint was the noise level. I could barely hear my wife seated across a small table!

Next time I will go back to Cosetta's ground level."

"We did not sit outside on the roof top, however I will definitely go back for the Rooftop Happy Hour. It looked lovely. I was not happy to discover that we could not take advantage of the Happy Hour specials because we had reservations in the Dining Area. There was no information on the website stating that the Happy Hour was limited to the bar. Both of my companions reported that their entrees, off the menu, were salty. I had the fish special, an Ahi Tuna, and it was excellent. Our waiter seemed knowledgable about the menu, however introducing each section by identifying what he likes and not giving any other information was not helpful. The restaurant was extremely noisy. I would cautiously recommend Louis to a friend."

"Food was excellent all around. Service was very good. Only bad thing (and it was bad) was the noise level which prevented us from having a good conversation with our friends. I would not recommend this place for that reason. If noise doesn't bother you, it'd be just fine."

"My wife and I are big fans of Cossetta's, so we were excited to try this. Overall the experience was a B+. Service was very good, but the food is not as good as the atmosphere. Seafood is the standout so far (clams appetizer, cioppino), but other entree's were too heavy handed with the salt... even by restaurant standards (veal saltimboca, bucatini amatriciana).

If they could figure out the salt it would be a very good traditional Italian restaurant."

"I went with a group of foodies and we tried many dishes in a family style nature. The 2 pastas dishes were both EXCELLENT and I would go there again for the pasta. The shrimp was well over cooked in the shrimp entree. The braised beef had the party split. 2 people loved it, I wish it would have been cooked slower and lower so it would have a more tender fall apart taste. The brick chicken was the last to be decided on as a order and in the end everyone loved it. The chicken was juicy and it had wonderful flavor balance. The resturant was also great for the 2 small children we had along and the kids pasta was just as good as the adults. It was a bit loud. For a group of 6 we could not hear from on end of the table to the other."

"We had a very fun experience with your new place. The food was fabulous, especially the Cipino(spelling?) fish stew.

"We first sat out on the patio for a drink before our dinner reservation and the service or, at least our server was very, very slow. Our beer took at least 15 minutes to get it. The service inside the Louis bar was also slow. The food was great but if you are in a hurry, not the place to go."
