Thank you for checking out Bluebird Barbecue where we celebrate American Regional Barbecue with a Vermont twist! Our all natural meats are slow smoked on premises in our 1.5 ton Souther Pride Smoker and are paired with traditional barbecue sauces and sides made from scratch. Relax, unwind, and enjoy southern style barbecue in one of our many dining rooms that can accommodate groups of all sizes. Our menu offers large "family style" platters perfect for group gatherings. During the summer months dine out on our screened, enclosed porch with Winooski River views. Our entire barbecue menu is also available for take-out.

"Our party of 8 went on a Friday night at 6:00. It was surprisingly not busy when we arrived. Our table was so dimly lit some of our party had real difficulty reading the menu. We mentioned it to the waitress who said she could turn up the light, but that never happened. Four of our party had the ribs, but while the half rack portion is generous, they were not the fall off the bone tender they had expected, and they felt they had had better at local chain restaurants. I had the pulled pork which was delicious and the handcut fries were crispy and hot. The apple sauce tasted like it came from a jar. Husband had the burnt ends with beans and coleslaw which he enjoyed. Over all it was good, but not exceptional."

"We have tried different bbque restaurants, and think that Bluebird was good but is lacking. The food very good, but small quantities for price . The banana cream pie portion very small, not many ribs. Also the atmosphere does not capture a real bbque atmosphere. Dinner was fast and did not feel like a place to linger.
I think that you should visit other places like Blue Ribbon Bbque in Newton Mass or Redbones in Cambridge Mass, Prohibition Pig in Waterbury Vt. to get more ideas for your restaurant.

"The food is always terrific at Bluebird however we are extremely disappointed that they took the sandwiches off of their menu. For a sandwich you now have to buy a platter and they give you a bun with it so you can construct your own.....but of course now you have to buy a platter rather than a sandwich which is significantly more than the sandwich option. Unfortunately we probably won't be visiting as often now. Will probably make the trip to Pro Pig which has more casual BBQ options."

"Though I recently converted to a vegetarian/pescetarian diet, I joined my husband at this restaurant as it was his choice for a birthday dinner. I saw ahead of time that they had blackened catfish on the menu. The only other vegetarian choice on the menu is a barbecued seitan (understandable as it is a barbecue joint). I ordered the catfish and it was decent enough, but unfortunately for me it came on a bed of greens that were braised in chicken broth and also contained bacon. I learned after that they had a vegetarian version of the greens. My fault - I should have asked. My husband had ribs, which he claimed were tasty, but were not fall-off-the-bone tender. Service was good and the pecan pie we had for dessert was delicious."

"We had SUCH a great time and such a great meal. Service was great. We are very picky about service and our server Sam, was great. Ver friendly, always there when we needed another beer and led us in the right direction for our order. We had four of us and Sam suggested we order the family reunion because we just couldn't decide. What a great idea and the food was fantastic. We have been trying to get there since it opened and now we will make sure we return and return. Thanks for a great night."

"Had dinner at the Bluebird BBQ this past Tuesday. The food was great as was the ambiance. Delicious tender brisket and fabulous homemade ketchup for the hand cut fries! One thing I would like to mention was our server Max. He was just about the most attentive and helpful server I've had in quite some time. He tried very hard to make sure our dining experience was a good one (and it was!). He went as far as tasting the coffee we ordered because it was late in the evening and had been sitting for some time. He wanted to be certain it was fresh, it was not, so he brewed a fresh pot for us! He honored our special requests and made for a smooth and enjoyable evening. A special thanks to Max!

"I think "BBQ" might scare those away who are thinking the traditional saucey BBQ sandwiches, as seen down south. Bluebird boasts a great meat selection that you can make your own with your own choice of flavors of sauce (at your table), or you can have your meat prepared "dry" and savor the smokey taste. The sides are wonderful as well, if you have room! I would recommend the Go Big for the first time, to sample it all. A party of 5 women got the amount recommended for 4, and we still had leftovers."

"I've eaten there several times and I think they have a good combination of service, and a pretty decent BBQ. I don't have a lot to compare to in BTV other than Big Fatties (also great) so I'm not an expert on the art. I have found the ribs can be really great, good smokey flavor but can be a little tough to the tooth. I don't want a mushy rib, but not to dry either. good sides, pit beans and ham, mac and cheese, great cornbread with maple butter. good service, sometimes feels a little stiff though, professional staff. great host that definitely cares about the guests (smiley guy. owner?). cool game room with shuffleboard tables. kid friendly. good drinks. it can be pricey but good food costs good money. love it."

"The menu is a bit strange. I had what was listed as a sandwich. I didn't have the bread but the brisket, fried chicken, pulled pork and baked beans were stacked up to provide a great meal and very filling.

"industrial barbecue, well sourced meat, but slightly overcooked (no choice). Sauces are way too sweet. Like pouring candy on chicken. They should label sauces at table. Fun for a group."

"This was our first time at Bluebird Barbecue and they've made customers of us for life! We were glad to have a reservation because the place was relatively busy on a Friday night, many people were waiting at the bar for a table. Service was quick, and very helpful. It was an "all hands on deck" kind of place where you had a main server, but everyone was there to help each other out. The food was the perfect price for the quality and size portions.
Try the mac&cheese! Smoky and delicious!"

"We tried the dinner for four. There was an abundance of food. It was fun trying the barbecue and side varieties. Very reasonable price for the amount of food we received. Our server seemed unfamiliar with the menu, did not explain the various barbecue sauces and seemed a bit overwhelmed. The last time we were there our server was a young lady named Sam and she was outstanding."

"I had the ribs and my wife had the brisket. Her brisket had more flavor overall than the ribs. The ends of the ribs were dry and chewy. The service was excellent.. Maybe add cornbread instead of white bread."
