D Bar San Diego
The D in D Bar stands for Drinks, Dining, and Dessert.
Drinks: We have an excellent wine, beer and cocktail menu that suits all price ranges and occasions. Not to toot our own horn (toot toot), but we even have a wine made just for us called Mr. Cupcake by Charles Smith, so fun! We also have an awesome Happy Hour called Nibbles and Sips with great food and drink specials (6 days a week from 3pm-6pm).
Dining: D Bar isn't based on one particular "type" of dining. As chefs, we pull from what we personally enjoy eating. Thus, our menu is based on our childhood favorites, inspiration from travels, and just simply things we like to eat!
Dessert: Our passion and background is pastry and that is why we have our very own dessert bar! It's kind of like when you go to a sushi bar, but instead of raw fish, we have delicious desserts being made right in front of you.

"I loved the ambience and feel of this restaurant. It had a very open and airy feel. The fires were too die for..the best thing we had. Both my sister and I had the Caesar salad and it was very good and my salmon was cooked to perfection. The staff is very friendly and our server Cali was excellent and very knowledgeable about the food. The shrimp appetizer was just so so . We had the cake and shake and ice cream sundae for dessert. The shake was great and ice cream sundae was good too. I will definitely return to this restaurant!"

"Best fries in the whole wide world! Killer Mac n' Cheese! Delicious Ahi! Cool ambience, love the vibe here. Ridiculously friendly and attentive servers, they are all just so incredibly nice. Fantastic dessert bar AND amazing desserts! Cake and Shake ROCKS!!! But then again ... so does the Chocolate Soufflé, and the Faux Bananas Foster, and the Milk and Cookies, and the list goes on. Love this place!"

"The look is clean & modern, the music eclectic but fun, the staff is friendly. The food choices are diverse with something for everyone. The appetizer was super (the bacon-wrapped dates); we will have to go back and try more appetizers! My husband had the buttermilk fried chicken with the savory waffle. This is a sandwich (which the menu does not make clear), and it was wonderful! I had the rib eye on a bed of white cheddar vanilla mashed potatoes...the potatoes were out of this world fantastic! The steak was a little troublesome; I ordered medium rare, and it came out well done (no pink at all). They made another, and this one was too rare. The flavor was very good, but not sure I'd order steak again. Overall a great place and good value."

"Food was great and better than the dessert, which was surprising based on all the desert pictures you find on yelp. Great atmosphere and lovely design. Only issue was server that took her time (a little too much time) but was very pleasant when she paid attention to you. We will return and hope that was an isolated incident."

"I've been to D Bar numerous times and have always had a great experience. It's one of my favorite neighborhood restaurants. It's appreciated that they change their menu with sufficient frequency to keep the regulars happy with new items, in addition to highlighting seasonal items. Chef Keegan is always very friendly and willing to share the secret ingredients that make his dishes unique. The desserts are amazing..."

"We came here for a birthday celebration. Our group was excited, but the service was so dismal our sense of joy disappeared immediately. We told the hosts that we were meeting up with three others were already be there. We spent a lot of time changing tables, reordering from a different server, etc. They had no idea that they already had them waiting for us. When all was corrected, we placed orders that took forever to arrive and orders that never came. We felt ignored. Even when the "celebrity chef" came to our table he was dismissive and we were just saying hi. We will not be back after such shoddy treatment."

"I went for Easter brunch. The Mimosas were great. Had the koby beef sliders with garlic steak Frits that were mouthwatering. The blue cheese and bacon salad with beets rocked. I stuffed down the sinfully delicious chocolate lava cake with a scoop of pistachio and a truffle in the middle. The chef paid us a visit and I couldn't compliment him enough. Go there!!"

"Been here twice now & it's mainly disappointing because of the prices, main courses, and slower service for a place that costs so much for a night out. Was with my wife & we had 2 beers, 1 app, 2 mains, and 1 dessert. After tip the bill was close to $100. For that kind of money, we expect great things. Negatives: 1. Price 2. Taste of Main Courses 3. "Horrible service, but really cool place. We would have ordered a lot more food and drinks if the waitress ever came over. Took 20 minutes to get our drinks (no fancy cocktails) and there were only a few people in the restaurant. Cool ambiance, but they need to take those cheap looking flowers off of the side wall. Only came for happy hour but the food was great!"

"The food was great as well as the service. We even asked to move from our table to the dessert bar to enjoy our dessert. They had several pastry chef's back there whipping up deicious treats and they were very friendly and interactive. It would definitely be a lot of fun for the dessert part of a group birthday outting. And the Crue Fries are a must have!"

"Been here twice, now, and I've enjoyed both experiences very much. Our most recent trip (on Saturday, 2/23) was a bit less satisfying than the first, due wholly to the service we received. Our server seemed distracted and rushed -- though not rude -- and she seemed not quite up to the pace of the meal itself. She never retook drink orders, waited much too long between courses to take food orders, and dessert took an inordinately long time to arrive. The check, naturally, appeared immediately.
Bottom line: love the place, but this server was not great."

"While we had a reservation, we had to wait at the bar. The greeting was less than enthusiastic and she was was dressed like she was going to wash her car. The bartender was not friendly. Service was less than stellar...slow. Ambience is cold. Will not be returning."

"Truly a wonderful experience. The menu is truly unique, but each dish wd ordered seemed familiar. Everything was perfectly cooked a d was served hot. The staff was friendly and our waiter appeared whenever we needed anything. I strongly recommend saving room for dessert. No matter what I write here you will be pleasantly amazed. We went cor the combination and shared it. It was out of this world. In summary, we liked Dbar and will be back."

"This is my second time going to D Bar and this time I took my parents. Knowing that my parents can be somewhat traditional (they would normally go to chain restaurants when they eat out), I was pleasantly surprised that they enjoyed the food and ambiance of D Bar. My father ordered the Chicken and Waffles and was impressed at the portion size and taste. My mother ordered the Kobe Beef Sliders and she was excited because they were three bite size sliders. I ordered the Crue Fries and for dessert we shared the Chocolate Souffle (it's my favorite and a must try). My parents also loved the plating and presentation of the food. Parking is street parking and can be tough, but there is a pay lot adjacent and across the street to the restaurant."

"February 13, 2013
Midweek dinner for three; one halibut, one salmon and one tuna.
All three dishes prepared and presented with care. Exceptional staff, covering for each other as needed, flawlessly.
The halibut was undercooked for my tablemate. Correction was immediate and handled by the host rather than our waitress, simply because the host was closest.
Dinner cost approximately $20/person, including two glasses of wine.
My reason for downgrading 'ambiance' is personal. I'm uncomfortable in metal chairs and at metal tables. They're simply too cold for me. This does not seem to concern others.
In all, a dining location that should be on your recurring list."
