"A potentially great birthday dinner was ruined by a poorly trained waiter and the failure of the hostess to even offer a gluten free menu. To cap off the evening, mgmt. forgot to tell the waiter that this was a birthday dinner, so desert was delivered sans the candle. To be fair, the manager did apologize, but the damage had been done. I would avoid this restaurant if you require any special attention to your food preparation. If you can order anything right off the menu you can have a great meal here."

"After reading reviews for this place it has become evident to me that perhaps people are giving this place such race reviews is because most are not from Orlando. Johnnie's is your typical tourist trap. The food is overpriced and mediocre at best. Nothing to wow about. There are so so so many other restaurants in Orlando that surpass this one. My suggestion as an individual who grew up in Orlando and this area - is to stay away from the heavily tourist centric traps (International Drive, Lake Buena Vista) and perhaps go some place in Downtown Orlando or plan ahead and make reservations at a high end restaurant at a theme park (it's going to run you the same tab)."

"We enjoyed the place so much the first night in Orlando, that we ate there again two days later. We started with the Beef Carpaccio, some Frog Legs, and some raw oysters. The Washington State oysters were small, for $2.50 each. The carpaccio is loaded with shaved Parmesan, capers, and a horseradish sauce. It's very large, enough for 2-3 to share for an appetizer. They also make their own pickles (Fire and Ice), which are sweet, with a bit of kick to them.
My wife and I split a 14 oz tenderloin (only $33), and they were nice enough to cook it rare for her, then take my portion and cook it to medium rare.
We had a flaming desert, made with 151 Rum that was great, and the chocolate cake, that had 1 pound of chocolate chips in the frosting."

"When on business in this area I enjoy Johnnies Hideaway. Location, price and quality of food are all very pleasing. For a Orlando establishment near attractions one can feel certain that the dinning room and bar areas are very casual yet not over filled with families on vacation with children crying from a long day at the parks. For a special evening or a business diner with that special client, Johnnies fits the bill."

"This was like stepping back in time to an era where professionalism and quality were the standard in dining establishments. ALL of the staff were extremely friendly and courteous. I was addressed by name and each team member I encountered introduced themselves as well, including the manager who brought me an appetizer to try.
The bartender Marty was knowledgable, attentive and welcoming.

""Cheesy jalepeno hashbrowns" sounds good right? It's actually just normal breakfast hashbrowns covered in cheese whiz.....I laughed when I saw them - just shocked. Everyone ordered blackened grouper which was so barely blackened it tasted like just plain-unseasoned fish which they didn't offer to fix @ $40.00 per plate.....food overall is average and for what they charge? Below average.
Server was obnoxious and rude - everything was a joke including making obscene remarks to girls at the table...apparently trying to be funny. Its too bad - Fishbones, Moonfish and this place USED to be all So good....but now? Try Ocean Prime or Capital Grill instead."

"We have been to Johnnie's a few times now. Every time we go we have be seated promptly and the service has been great.
The food is amazing and has always been cooked to the proper temp. This past trip the manager stopped by our table to offer us a free sample of a new appetizer just to get our thoughts. Very nice people and a very nice setting. Average meal with drink and dessert will be around $50 give or take."

"I had heard great reviews, but personally I didn't care for the food. For $40, please serve more than cold shredded cabbage with your tiny, overlooked lobster tails. Also, I found it odd that the lobster and cabbage were sitting in what tasted like watered down thousand island dressing....very strange combination. We also ordered a side of asparagus, noted to be enough to share. For $9, there should have been more than 4 stalks. I think they need a new chef , based on all I've just said and the fact that the hollandaise sauce was the worst I have ever had and who in their right mind would put provolone on top of that....strange. Their house salad was cheap iceberg lettuce with a dollop of potato salad hiding in it. We passed on dessert"

"Family of four in town on spring break, looking for a good meal. We didn't find it at Johnnie’s Hideaway, but we spent a lot of money anyway ($132 before tip). Food was overpriced and barely okay ($35 grilled trigger fish was limp). Waitress touted house salad for having two shrimp. They were microscopic popcorn shrimp and slimy! Laughable. Including them only highlighted just how pathetic the salad was. Caesar salad and steak were good. The building had a cool design and ambiance, but the outside, where we sat, was overwhelmed with highway noise. There was a Red Lobster next door. I’d choose that next time over Johnnie’s Hideaway."

"I don't understand the negative local reviews. As a local looking for something different that we had not tried before, this place was fantastic. The food was all excellently prepared, the selections were extensive and, contrary to one post, our server was more than capable of answering all of our questions, was fully knowledgeable of the menu and suggested an excellent wine that was not on the wine list. Johnnie's Hideaway will definitely be a restaurant we look forward to revisiting again in the not too distant future. Laura was a professional who knew how to please guests and the management was interactive, making the visit even more enjoyable. The whole staff made us feel welcomed from arrival to departure."

"My wife and I ordered martinis. The server came back with one shaker filled with a diluted martini and poured it into our glasses. That was surprising since the place looked very upscale. The server was completely unfamilair with the two methods of preparation of the scallops and could not tell me what the difference was between pan roasted and pan fried. My wife ordered her steak medium but even at the end of the meal, one half was still very rare, the server asked if it was okay and my wife did not object. The cappucino was very good as was the dessert. Overall, I've had better."

"We went to Johnnie's twice, once for dinner and once for their Happy Hour. We took the kids for dinner and it was a big mistake! The kids' menu is limited and overpriced in my opinion. As for their Happy Hour, I would highly recommend eating outside and arriving with at least an hour left to enjoy it. Our waiter was awesome and the seafood appetizers are incredible. I would highly recommend it!"

"Outstanding dining experience. The Mixed Grill with shrimp & scallop scampi is truly outstanding. The Dayboat Jumbo Scallops are a wonder.
Members of our party requested the scallops blackened, which is (slightly) off-menu.

"The emperor isn't wearing any clothes at this over-hyped Orlando haunt. Despite the claims and the entryway meat locker, the food is nothing special. The service is rough and wine list knowledge thin on the ground. Objective food and wine advice is replaced by the wait staff's overused "my favorite is..."

"The restaurant, which is located deep in a shopping center, is a gem. The decor is outstanding with lots of interesting spaces for parties and various gatherings. Stone crab is what brought us here and we had lots of it despite a poor season. Oysters in the half shell were also delicious. Apps all looked divine. My husband had a large pork chop which was perfectly grilled but seasoned with too much garlic so that was all you could taste. Dessert - a Florida baked Alaska - was flamed at the table with much fanfare and was delicious. I would love to have this restaurant in our neighborhood at home."

"Fabulous steaks and Laura our waitress was top notch . Took my three kids (well behaved kids) and they were welcome. Huge steaks and crab claws were a highlight . Would definitely go back . Much more upscale than I was expecting .This is no Lone Star."

"I ordered shrimp cocktail which was delicious, but as good as anywhere else. The cocktail sauce could have been more interesting for a place that specializes in this kind of food. The fresh grouper (blackened) was excellent, but pricey ($36) without sides. We were told the sides were big enough to share so ordered asparagus for the table (there were 4 of us) and we received 3 spears (for $8!). The "salted" baked potato had about 5 grains. Still tasted just fine (nothing special). With my 2 glasses of prosecco, I spent $77 on myself before tip. Speaking of tip, I only left 15% because our waitress was horrible! I am a very generous tipper, but she was the most intrusive and annoying server I have ever had. Overall - good, not great."

"We made a reservation for 8pm, got there at 7:30pm, hostess did not give us the time of day!!! Ignore us and won't give us an estimate as to when we will be seated!!! Extremely awful customer service!!! The hostess did not seat us until 8:45pm!!! That's so ridiculous, manager was NOT helpful!"
