For nearly 40 years, Texas Cattle Company, a family owned and operated restaurant, has been a local favorite serving only select U.S.D.A. Choice and Prime, three-year-old grain-fed beef. Texas Cattle Company steers clear of fancy cooking methods, flame-broiling our steaks on a custom built pit over a natural wood-burning fire made from Florida orange-wood and oak. "While the steak is good the building itself needs am upgrade and cleaning. The carpets smell musty and old. Some of the lights are without bulbs. Overall it hasn't been renovated since 1973 and it needs an overall. Service is excellent though."

"We were not notified of the "change" in stipulations behind the free birthday dinner. It discriminates against those who do not have actual drivers licenses. What if the person can't legally acquire a drivers license due to an extenuating circumstance? Then the manager acknowledged the IDs but then chastised the birthday person. The food was also cold and under cooked BOTH times it was brought out to the table."

"The steaks are huge and have excellent flavor, but they're expensive and include big chunks of fat that would be cut off at every other restaurant. A so-so lettuce salad (no choice of dressing), fries/mashed and cheesy rolls are included; everything else is extra. Baked potato? Free anywhere else, but five bucks here. A steak ordered medium came out between rare and medium rare; had to send it back. Wait staff is OK, but not really personable; they act like they're in a 5-star New York restaurant. The place is popular -- especially for birthdays when you get a free steak (if you have a Florida DL). Wait time on a weekend was just 15 minutes."

"I took my wife here for her birthday and was very dissappointed. it seems a little run down. broken flower pots, cushions missing button, gnats flying around, dirty bathroom. the bread came wrapped in a linen napkin that looked like it had been reused 10 times. silverware had scale or some kind of dirt on it. the bread was delicious and so were the red skin mash potatoes but the steaks were less than impressive. our $7 appetizer was 2 scallops. if you are going to charge the prices you do and consider yourself a fine dinning restaurant then you better pick up the pace or you will not be around long. I did like the old guns hanging on the walls for decor even though several were not consistent with the restaurants theme. I will not be back"

"My only complaint is that I made a reservation and still was sat 30+ minutes after my reservation time and I arrived 10 minutes early. The food was some of the best I have ever had. My waitresses Page and Carrie were the absolute best. Was a very good evening."

"I took my friend for her birthday and she got the Cowgirl steak for free. I like that now you can order anything at that price for those who rather have something other than steak. I ordered the rib eye and still eating on it 3 days later it was huge!! The steaks were cooked excellant. The escargot needs more garlic and some parmasan cheese broiled on top. They were bland. Salad tasted like only oil on it. Some more vinagar would help with the flavor. The resturant still smells moldy/musty. It needs a rehaul.
Collin was an excellant waiter. Looked like he enjoyed the job which is not something I could say about most of the other employers there."

"While the food was great and quite filling, I would only recommend this restaurant for special occasions. The wait staff was extremely courteous and very knowledgeable about the history of the establishment. The hefty $100 price tag for my wife and I will probably make this somewhere I visit only when the occasion warrants."

"First, the wait was not good they were running 20 min behind and I had a reservation for 8:15pm. When we finally was seated the server was rude. It was my birthday!. When we finally got our dinner the steak was not cooked the way I ordered it my wife steak was the same way. The waiter offer to return it to the kitchen were the steak came back over cooked for me and my wife still had blood coming from her steak, she order a well done steak. I told her to send it back she refused to do so she said she will take it home and put it the microwave. After the dinner the waiter did not come to sing happy birthday to me, any other resteraunt they do. All in all did not have a good time here; my first and maybe my last time !"

My damper to an enjoyable evening was the 18% gratuity that was added to my bill for my husband "free" birthday dinner.our party was less than 7 so it was not applied to all the tickets.I would have had a lower ticket if we ordered regular. "Our server Collin was OUTSTANDING!!! He was very knowledgeable and made good recommendations. He was friendly and engaging, and he helped to make my birthday dinner very special indeed! When we come back for my husband's birthday celebration on June 3rd, we will definitely ask for him to be our server.

"The experience was a bit disappointing. It was a special occasion, too. The food was fabulous, but the atmosphere was not vibrant, it was stale. The server had absolutely no personality and when I asked her about some ingredients she had no idea what I was talking about. Maybe that is due to lack of leadership or training? "It was the best steak I've ever eaten! We each had the 24 ounce sirloin. I like my steak between medium well done and well done. Hannah was our waitress and she suggested medium well done plus.It was perfect! The mashed potatoes were great and my husband had seconds on the salad as it was so tasty. The dinner rolls were warm and crunchy on the outside while soft on the inside. Hannah was excellent. She was very helpful (we were first timers), polite, and friendly, respecting our privacy while still checking to see if everything was good. We plan on visiting again next year, making this a regular, on our anniversary."

"I'm very disappointed in my experience at Texas Cattle Company in Lakeland, FL. It was my birthday and I was looking forward to enjoying my free steak as they advertise for your birthday. When the waitress asked for my ID I gave her my Michigan drivers license as I just moved to Florida and did not have a Florida ID. She refused my ID and said that the promotion was only good with a valid FL license. I did not see that anywhere in there restaurant and it made my experience there miserable! I will never recommend this establishment to any of my friends!! They would not budge on there policy and it was a horrible experience. Way to expensive for the quality that is offered. DO NOT GO THERE!!"

"Went expecting the same great expierence from years ago. This is the second and last bad expierence at The Cattle Co. It was so noisy we couldn't hear each other. Our shoes stuck to the floor (very nasty!). The steak we used to love was poor and fatty. Last but least they have changed the salad. So disappointing!! We have to say good bye and farewell to the Cattle Co. of the past. RIP..."

"Parking was poor in a lot too small for the building occupancy. Despite reservation had to wait 30 minutes in a small, crowded, noisy area. All steaks were overcooked and those medium and up were butterflied without notice and REALLY overcooked. Food came out with no prior notice that they had not baked enough potatoes at 6:30 on Saturday night at a steakhouse! Sides were skimpy and overpriced. Noise level precluded conversation. Very disappointing experience, we will not go back again."

"We were a party of 5. I ordered the strip sirloin with the unlimited salad and an ice tea. The drinks came in a reasonable length of time after which the waitress took our orders. There was then a long wait for the entree(s) so by the time they arrived several in our party were ready for refills on the drinks and salad. Here's where the service slowed way down. By the time the salads and refill drinks appeared we pretty much had completed our entrée(s). One other point, you must ask for sugar / sweet n low/ ketchup which meant we had to wait for these items as well. BTW: my sirloin was tough and grisly."

"We were totally turned off when my husband drank is Pepsi and got a big piece of plastic tied in a knot in his drink. The waiter seemed totally unphased by this. Said he would get him another Pepsi. When he came back he said it was a piece of the sugar bag that had fell into the ice cubes. He could have a least offered a free Pepsi. Then when my sister got her cocktail (can't remember the name, but it was one of your specialty cocktails), when he poured it out of the shaker the martini glass was only have full. Most all restaurants give you a drink filled almost to the top of the martini glass. That was a total turn off also.
I will say the bread, salads and our dinners were very good, but then drinks were a total turn off."
