Casual and elegant... vegetables locally sourced, proteins are hormone and antibiotic free...seafood is "Safe Harbor" certified...and we are in the process of developing our own farm to become totally self-sufficient. The dinner menu changes daily and reflects seasonality on a daily, not monthly, basis. The lunch menu is simplified in order to deliver quickly, while maintaining high standards in quality. Our chef trained under David Kinch, Stephan Pyles and David Burke and has assisted in the openings in numerous bars and restaurants in New York City, Chicago, Connecticut, Florida and, of course, California before returning home to Willow Glen to open Hay Market. We offer an eclectic wine list and numerous craft beers and limited mark-up to keep all costs down for our customers. Relax and Enjoy.
"We were at a baccalaureate service nearby and used Open Table to find Hay Market for dinner afterwards. Seating is at long tables with high chairs, and you could be next to a stranger, so if private intimacy is your goal head elsewhere! The wait staff was friendly and helpful, though I had to remind our waiter to bring our wine. The food was wonderful. We started with a green garlic fondue, very tasty, and a tasty salad. I had a pork chop, bone-in, that was huge and prepared perfectly. My wife had quail and lamb, and while that would not be her normal choice, she loved the meal. We had no room for dessert. This would be a fun place to go with another couple or a group, extremely casual, and we'll likely head back when in the neighborhood."

"Enjoyed our twin daughter's 26th birthday at Haymarket and they did not disappoint. Great, always interesting menu that you won't find anywhere else along with a very clever wine list makes for a perfect meal. This was my fourth or fifth visit and each time they do an excellent job."

"We quickly warmed up to the communal table idea, but the décor was really strange. It was like we were in a deli with an upright piano. If the food had been better, we could have overlooked the ambiance. For the price, there are other restaraunts around. good beer though."

"There is a tractor in the eating area. There are long tables where you can sit next to your special person - or - next to someone you have never met. And the FOOD - WOW! This is a master chef. The celery soup was to die for - perfectly balanced tart and sweet and flavors. The halibut in a delicious tomato sauce - ummmm. The desserts are varied. The menu changes at every meal. The food is all from the farm - they are building their own farm. And the portions are not overwhelming in size so you can enjoy the appetizer and dessert. The Rum cake was a little dry. So its not perfect. Its new, its easy to get to, so get there before it gets overcrowded.
Almost like my favorite restaurant in Paris on the island Île de la Cité."

"I took my wife for her birthday on Saturday night. The wait staff was unattentive. She asked if we would like water, then never got them. She did not ever ask if we wanted refills. The food was lack luster, especially the ginger cake and gelato. The gelato was grainy and my wife had a while piece of ginger. I ordered the ribs. They were over cooked and partially burned. W had high hopes - I had to promise my wife a redo for her birthday."

"Good concept, poor execution. Seating at communal tables were uncomfortable. You're too far away from your partner but too close to your neighbors. Small menu with not a lot of great options. Probably wouldn't go back."
