Carpe Diem Restaurant
Carpe Diem has been open since 1989. We have moved twice due to downtown business developments, but are now in our third incarnation at 1535 Elizabeth Avenue. Our interior is done in a beautiful art nouveau style. Mahogany doors, copper lighting that vines around the wood work, and marble floors are just a few details that will engage you in the surroundings. We, the proprietors, sisters Tricia Maddrey and Bonnie Warford, are from Miami, Florida. Our interest in food grew from a love of the Latin and tropical flavors that influenced us growing up. Our menu offers a variety of dishes reflecting "new American" cuisine.

"We have been here several times and we are never disappointed. This time we came early (6pm) because we were meeting out of town guests. The bar and restaurant were quiet but inviting. Our waitress (Laura?) was fabulous. I will come back again soon just to be able to sit and enjoy a drink in the bar."

"My wife and I have been to Carpe Diem a couple times for dinner (love the butter milk fried chicken) and loved it...great food, romantic setting for date night, great service. So, we thought we'd give it a shot fot Mothers' Day brunch with our two kids. Once again the food was great - veggie omelette was amazing and the salmon was fantastic. The atmosphere and service made it a Mothers' Day brunch to remember."

"My husband and I are Carpe Diem fans -- here's why: Truly wonderful meals prepared by a chef who KNOWS what they are doing; a lovely, relaxed atmosphere and attentive, knowledgeable servers. You'll be equally thrilled with their seafood or meat options -- and their to-die-for side dishes are prepared with the same level of love as given to the star of your plate. Can't wait for the warmer months when they open those gorgeous, windowed-doors -- creating a wonderful indoor / outdoor bar and serving area. "I can't say enough for the food at Carpe Diem. The best quality meats and vegetables--farm to table. The food was cooked to perfection with ingredients that made this a most memorable dining experience. The complexity of the tastes was awesome.
I don't remember having such excellent side dishes anywhere in Charlotte before. This was our first trip and won't be the last. We drove an hour to get here and it was sure worth it. We haven't stopped talking about the food since we went there 2 days ago. Incredibly great."

"We love the originality of the menu. The wait staff are personable without being overbearing. The tables are not crowded so diners have privacy. We had filet mignon with broccolini and polenta frites. All were prepared to our taste and well presented. The arugula salad with melon, pistachio nuts, and prosciuto was really delicious - the dressing complimented the flavors and was not an afterthought. We shared a banana bread pudding for dessert and that really capped off the evening."

"My girlfriend and I found Carpe Diem on the internet and we were thrilled to find a place with actual quality gluten-free and vegetarian options. My girlfriend got the veggie cous cous and I got the pork chop (that night's special). The food was incredible. Probably the best food we've ever had in Charlotte. We finished our meal with a flourless chocolate cake with blackberry icecream. It was a truly unique dessert that was perfectly sweet and satisfying. "My husband and I have been going to this restaurant for years. We love the ambiance, often one of the owners is greeting people at the door, and the food is delicious. I love the way the chef creatively mixes flavors to surprise my palate. I often order the duck; It is always tender, moist, and perfectly cooked. The duck sits on top of something else, but that something else changes, so over the years I have enjoyed the changes made to my favorite entree. (Last time it was a swiss chard, cherry marsala demi-glace with sweet potato polenta cakes). My husband ALWAYS orders the fried chicken, which is like no other. It is one of their most popular menu items. I also highly recommend the goat cheese salad. -Our favorite restaurant in Charlotte!"

"I have been going to Carpe Diem ever since its first incarnation nearly twenty years ago. Their menu is alway varied and interesting. My wife and I especially enjoy sitting at the bar or in the lounge to drink wine and ramble through the appetizer list. The restaurant is a favorite spot for meeting others and having a splendid meal. It is a fine place for special occasions or just a good night out. It is fine dining, but reasonably priced for what you get. The wait staff is very good and professional. The setting is lovely, the ambience lively but not loud."

"This was a first time visit for me and my husband. The atmosphere is great with unique and beautiful decor. We were seated right away, and served bread and water. It took 10 minutes for our waitress to tell us the dinner specials and take our drink order. When our meal came, she spilled the wine sauce from the steak dish all over my husbands jeans. She did apologize and tried to help clean up. She didn't get flustered, and even made a few jokes about the mishap. The food was as tasty as Outback, just with a fancy wine sauce and cheesy potatoes. I dont feel the quality of the dishes are up to par with the atmosphere. There was no discount on the bill, to potentially offset dry cleaning bills. Overall, just ok."

"Service and Food were FANTASTIC! We had a short wait because we were kindly given the option of our table immediately, or a better table location in 10 minutes (which we opted for!). Service was seamless and courteous, and the food was wonderful! My husband had the scallops over risotto and I had the pork chop over polenta with cabbage....both were PERFECT!!! We hope to be back soon!"

"Carpe Diem has always been one of our favorites. We always have an excellent meal, great service, and enjoy the relaxed, warm atmosphere. My husband got the scallops and I got the salmon. "We came two nights in a row!!! Wednesday night for cocktails and apps in the bar....great bartender. Already had our reservation to return for dinner on Thursday. Service was terrific both nights. The food is absolutely on the mark every time. We ran the gambit...salmon, fried chicken and scallops and risotto....exquisite flavors. As a native Charlottean we know restaurants very thoroughly and this is consistently always a top consideration when we are making the suggestion. A not to miss experience.
We always ask for one of the tables in the bar as we love the intimacy of that experience. One of Charlotte's Finest if not the best!
