Edgar Bar + Kitchen at Mayflower Renaissance
An upscale, modern eatery, EDGAR features traditional American brasserie cuisine and authentically crafted cocktails. Handcrafted "cocktail culture" marks The Mayflower's return to the iconic bar scene. EDGAR will be the place to toast with a classic beverage, but a creative and artisanal menu is the new star.
Located in the footprint of the original restaurant space with entrances in the lobby and on Connecticut Avenue, EDGAR replaces the former Town & Country and Cafe Promenade and promises a contemporary twist to the iconic hotel. Bringing the spirit of the grand bar back to Connecticut Avenue, EDGAR embraces the history of its legendary location and is poised to be a iconic yet modern fixture within DC's social and cultural scene.
Our team is dedicated to making your experience at EDGAR as special as possible and we thrive on opportunities to create wonderful memories for our guests.
"I ordered "Duck and Eggs". The whites of my poached eggs were runny even though I ordered them "medium" which every other restaurant serves as cooked whites. When the food was brought to our table the eggs were missing and I have to flag someone down to ask for them. Edgar advertises a "Bottomless Champagne Brunch" for Sunday. Both my and my friends glasses were several times empty and we had to ask the glasses to be filled. Certainly not the level of service I expect for a restaurant associated with the Mayflower Hotel."

Review 2 for Edgar Bar + Kitchen at Mayflower Renaissance
"Service was exceedingly slow. Salmon was terribly overcooked... we sent back both to the kitchen and the next two were also very overcooked. Appetizers were well done and the couple with us had good steak... cooked well. Overall experience was disappointing, especially for the price point."

Review 3 for Edgar Bar + Kitchen at Mayflower Renaissance
"Had a nice meal with a business colleague at the Edgar. Convenient location. Tables are not too close together and noise level is fine (at least at lunchtime) so we could have a decent conversation. Food was good. Our server was cheerful but a little confused; perhaps he was new."

Review 4 for Edgar Bar + Kitchen at Mayflower Renaissance
"Going in I was hopeful that the Mayflower's renovation would be an exciting new restaurant to add to the list of places I frequent, but after comically bad service (our waiter brought the wrong food to the table next to us four times), and an uninspired menu, I can honestly say it was one of my worst dining experiences in DC. Sadly eating at Edgar was about as good as you could expect from a Marriott restaurant in some Podunk town, not worth trying."

Review 5 for Edgar Bar + Kitchen at Mayflower Renaissance
"The old Mayflower hotel restaurant was an ideal location for a breakfast meeting. Good food, good service and relatively quiet with space between tables. All that, is now gone. Might as well have a business breakfast at McDonalds."

Review 7 for Edgar Bar + Kitchen at Mayflower Renaissance
"I think EDGAR is a great place for a business lunch, though the service was sub par. The server came over to tell us the soup of the day- only saying that- walking away so that we had to "chase" her to request water. I also had to ask three times for condiments. The ambiance is so-so- the hotel lobby is wonderful! The food was decent and reasonably priced. I wouldn't hesitate to send a business associate there for a meal or drink when staying at the hotel."

Review 8 for Edgar Bar + Kitchen at Mayflower Renaissance
"We were seated and then no one ever came to the table to serve us. There were wait and bar staff around the nearly empty restaurant but we were completely ignored. We finally got up and left the restaurant without eating. Food rating of poor only indicates we never ate."

"Total confusion at reservation desk. "Energetic" is hardly the word. The place is incredibly noisy. Unlikely to go again. Restaurant needs some adult supervision."

Review 11 for Edgar Bar + Kitchen at Mayflower Renaissance
"After reading several reviews on this spot I was skeptical as to how my experience would be but I must say I was pleasantly surprised. Food was great, drinks were good, and the wait staff was a but slow at first but once we got our drinks they picked up the pace. Overall a great experience and I would definitely return."

Review 12 for Edgar Bar + Kitchen at Mayflower Renaissance
"I was wary of Edgar based upon some reviews, but I was pleasantly surprised. I reserved a table for 3 at noon and we were seated by the hostess right away. Our server was a little difficult to understand, but he was nice and, with a little effort, we were able to understand him. We ordered the arugula salad, the farmers market sandwich, and the mussels, and the food was ready remarkably quickly. We were all satisfied with the food, and the lunch prices were reasonable. Service was on the whole very good, with the manager even coming by to check that we were okay. The redesign of the restaurant is also a delight, and we enjoyed the ambiance. I will return to Edgar in the future as a convenient, reasonably priced lunch destination."

Review 13 for Edgar Bar + Kitchen at Mayflower Renaissance
"I visited Edgar for lunch with 3 friends. This restaurant just underwent a nice renovation, and it looks great. Unfortunately the food was not good at all, and the service was worse. On the positive side, we mentioned the specific problems to a manager, who was very apologetic."

Review 14 for Edgar Bar + Kitchen at Mayflower Renaissance
"As many recent reviewers have noted, the service was not good. The cheese plate and brussel sprouts arrived at the same time because our server didn't ask if we wanted the brussel sprouts with the main meal. Our server also forgot to enter our individual appetizers into the system so our entrees were brought instead. The manager and others scrambled to make up for the oversight with the appetizers, apologizing and comping the appetizers, which we appreciated. But our server never acknowledged his mistake. The food was average but there were some standouts: the butternut squash soup was very good; two of the three cheeses were hard to push away. This place has potential; let's hope they can get their service straight."

Review 16 for Edgar Bar + Kitchen at Mayflower Renaissance
"Horrible service. It felt like an hour passed between when we were seated and when we were asked our order and in that time we saw other groups get up and walk out. Then again, our food took forever and a day to come out. As we waited the ages it took to flag down a waiter for the check the couple next to us, who had been seated around the time we put in our order, STILL hadn't even been asked their order. The food was nice enough. The decore was cool. It could have been a great place for groups but I would never take someone there."

"Hostess distracted to hear I had a reservation. Menu is appealling. Sweet potato and brussel spouts lacked seasoning. Portions generous. Pricing OK for downtown lunch. Comfortable seating/spacing. Server quite abrupt."

Review 18 for Edgar Bar + Kitchen at Mayflower Renaissance
"ASide from cold crab cakes, the service, drinks (amazing), and entrees were quite good. I was expecting a bad experience base upon other comments but this place is worth a try as they sort out their growing pains. Our server couldn't have been nicer and only wanted to help and was truly thrilled that I loved the cocktail that he suggested I order. It was authentic and refreshing to have a server who cared so much,"

Review 19 for Edgar Bar + Kitchen at Mayflower Renaissance
"I was a fan of the old Town and Country bar and very curious about the new Edgar. Ugh -- never going back. The room-temp food is generic and unremarkable except for the excessive salting. A humdrum glass of wine is $18 and the somewhat loud Muzak completes the general vibe of bland, you-could-be-anywhere hotel bar.
This is Dupont Circle, and one block away in any direction is better food, drink and atmosphere at any price. There's no excuse for this place -- which has a very heavy, cruisey, businessman-on-the-make pickup vibe btw -- to be this bad.
The service, however, was very nice."

Review 20 for Edgar Bar + Kitchen at Mayflower Renaissance
"Had a great time at Edgar's. Went with another couple and really enjoyed it. The ambience was nice, great cocktail and wine list. The menu was small but was decent. I had the hanger steak which I enjoyed. It's attached to the Maylower Hotel which was absolutely gorgeous. I recommend it, good for couples but also groups."

"I'd heard so much about Edgar that I was disappointed. The breakfast is clearly designed for those who want the buffet (alternates implicitly discouraged). Service was indifferent at best, especially considering the cost."

Review 23 for Edgar Bar + Kitchen at Mayflower Renaissance
"Until they fix teh service (been 3 times and the service is fair to horrible. First time-- one of 4 lunches was just forgotten. Second time- -waited at a table in teh bar area for 20 minute to get a menu and then waiter never came back- walked out. Last time- waited forever to get menu and then waited forever for order to be taken.
Waiters need to pick up the pace adn be attentive or it will never work."

Review 26 for Edgar Bar + Kitchen at Mayflower Renaissance
"The roasted beet salad was very flavorful, although I would prefer actually lettuce with the beets. The farmer's market vegetable sandwich was absolutely delicious with the fresh veggies on the ciabatta bread. You can keep that on the menu all of the time! The ice cream sandwich dessert was fabulous!"

Review 28 for Edgar Bar + Kitchen at Mayflower Renaissance
"The food wasn't special, considering you are in one of the classic hotels in DC. I am willing to try again and encourage others because the restaurant certainly looks nice. I had read poor reviews on service but that seems to be ok. The waiters are a little awkward in some areas but nothing obnoxious. Need some fine tuning. But they need to jazz up the food a bit. Sort of mediocre."

Review 29 for Edgar Bar + Kitchen at Mayflower Renaissance
"Salad looked like it came from a cafeteria. Crab cakes tasted like frozen food. Drinks took 30 minutes to get to me, and half the ice had melted (I had to ask for them, otherwise the server forgot). Server was difficult to communicate with and was very disorganized. At one point, instead of bringing us some butter on a plate, one server just brought a whole stick of butter cut into chunks. It was extremely expensive for what it was. Took more than 2 hours to eat appetizers (no main meals) and one round of drinks."

"Our server was not customer service oriented. She forgot to bring out our beverages, we had to continue to remind her. She took too long to take our food order and she got the order incorrect. Very poor service and the restaurant was not crowded."

Review 31 for Edgar Bar + Kitchen at Mayflower Renaissance
"The service was awful - very unprofessional. The food was awful - even the ice tea was terrible. It was obvious that it wasn't a "privately" owned and operated restaurant. Seemed more like the attitude of having a captive audience in a hotel - likely that no one would return."

Review 32 for Edgar Bar + Kitchen at Mayflower Renaissance
"Food was good, the space is very nice. Service was a little on the slow side, from start to finish (hostess through server). Guessing it may be due to the restaurant still being new. Only complaint--our table was a bit awkward. We were seated at a table for two, that was narrow but long, as if it was intended to be a part of larger table or even a side table. The legs made it impossible to cross your legs. Luckily, this did not appear to be the standard table. Look forward to trying the restaurant again."

Review 33 for Edgar Bar + Kitchen at Mayflower Renaissance
"The food was great and loved the scene, especially the wrap-around bar and standing tables. However, as many Yelpers expressed in their reviews, the service is pretty substandard. Our waitress seemed to have short-term memory loss and was unfamiliar with several items on the menu and most on the drink menus. For those with low tolerance, I would not recommend. However, if you come with the right expectations and a bit of humor, it is a great meal and date spot."
