In 1949, Joe Moreno opened the doors to his restaurant, temporarily calling it "Broadway Joe" - because his name was Joe and he was on block away from Broadway. In 1953 looking for a typical New York restaurant, a film crew shooting the "FBI Story" with Jimmy Stewart, choose to feature "Broadway Joe" in an unforgettable scene.
In 1970, Joe Namath, famous quarterback of the New York Jets, acquired the nickname "Broadway Joe" and frequented the restaurant and brought sports legends, as well as stars from Broadway shows to dine here. Over the years, Broadway Joe Steakhouse has been immortalized in books and described as a famous New York landmark.

"We went for lunch before a matinee show on a Wednesday. I was a little leary of the dining experience seeing that we were the only diners in the restaurant, My fears were put to rest when our order arrived. The food (we had a beef dish, pork dish and chicken) was great and the service wonderful. Will definitely will plan on going there again."

"The food was ok... Streaks were good but side dishes were sub standard. But what really ruined the dinner was the poor service. We waited over 20 minutes before we even ordered and then watched as they messed up another customers dish. The two servers then argued in the back and three different parties had to request checks several times. To top it off the food was expensive... We ate the next night at Bistecca Florentine for far less with excellent service and food 100 percent tastier."

"Broadway Joe's is a classic dining experience. Right in the theatre district and tucked away downstairs under a beautiful old apartment building. This place is full of history and class. If you are going to a broadway show, I recommend it because we walked past at least four theaters on the way back to times square. The food was very good and the wait staff was very attentive."

"The service was very good and fast, but the steaks were not so good. For a NY steakhouse we expected much better. I ordered the 18 ounce ribeye and expected a nice big thick steak. It looked more like 10 ounces and was pounded flat to about 1/2 inch. Tasted like it was cooked in a skillet. My coworker got the filet, and was not happy with it either."

"The steak was very good and so was the salmon, if a bit plain. The rice and veggies were very blah but fine if you doctored them up yourself. The cheesecake was delicious. Just enough food because we were going to a show and didn't want any to take home. It was a good spot to go before a show but don't think we would return as it just didn't do enough for us in light of all the other choices in NYC. Waiter was pleasant enough but again didn't do enough to make us want to go back."

"My wife and I enjoyed a nice steak dinner. The food was great and the service was good. The steak was prepared perfectly. It is in an old part of town in a building fitting for the neighborhood. However, the decor and tables were nicely prepared. We would definitely go back for the outstanding food and the good service."

"We decided on Broadway Joe's based on many online reviews and seeing it on our last trip to NYC and walking along Restaurant Row. The food and staff were very good and the overall atmosphere had solid neighborhood charm. However, the pace of the evening was very, very rushed, even for a pre-show dinner. We noticed that to be true for all the surrounding diners. The time from sitting to ordering was minutes. From that point, the food was out minutes later. The staff also seemed a bit confused and at times it was difficult to find a waiter once the food arrived. That said, we would try Broadway Joe's again but would find a way to slow down the pace of the evening."

"The food was horrible. I ordered Rib Eye Steak and it was so tough, I had great difficulty cutting it into bite sized pieces. My jaw was aching from trying to chew these bite sized pieces. Side mixed veggies were very good, as was the creme caramel (dessert). I will not return to this restaurant."

"Haven't been to Joe's Steak House in years and now I remember why,,,,,I go to Broadway shows a few times @ month and always have great restaurants and service,,,,,This time, Joe's steak House messed up the reservation, gave us a horrible table, ( we were 6 with a special birthday request) although the restaurant was almost empty @ 6:00 PM, service was deplorable and food was less than mediocre,,,,,We ordered coffees, that came after almost 25 minutes,,,,,we had to leave to make a show, so we couldn't drink the coffee,,,,,Maitre D id not even apologize,,,,,,Will NEVER EVER go back there,,,,,,,,,"

"Being a steakhouse Broadway Joe's should know how to cook a superb steak. There were five of us at dinner and the two of us who ordered the filet mignon were very disappointed. Both filets were to be cooked well-done however they were served rare. Everyone felt that the overall taste of all the food was mediocre. We choose to bring our friends to Broadway Joe's because we had gotten good food there in the past. We were so embarrassed in our selection of this restaurant. With all of the other great restaurants in NYC we certainly won't be back. For the best steak in NYC go to The Strip House."

"We found this wonderful spot on the internet. It is convenient to the shows on Broadway and Time Square. The atmospere was warm and inviting. They also have dining outside for the nicer days. Every single person that works at this enjoyable spot was caring and helpful. We felt special and important as customers. The food prices are reasonable and an exceptional value. I can not say enough about the food. We had a party of five and had a good selection of the menu. We had salads, pasta, side dishes, steak and dessert. I am not much of a red meat eater but I had the filet and ate every last bit of the steak. The meals are large enough to share of enjoy all on your own. A must for dining!"

"We ordered the tomatoe and mozzarella salad which was very good. Then, ordered the filet mignon and scalloped potatoes. Steak had good flavor but was a bit tough. The potatoes arrived late, but our waiter comped us two dinner drinks. Overall good experience. Would recommend.

"The service was great and very accommodating. First they tried to rush us upon being seated but we requested to slow it down and they did. Garden salad was lettuce and oil and vinegar unimaginitive. We order the signature dish prime rib it was tasteless. The Flan was delicious. The wine was very good. I don't feel that for 160.00 the meal was that memorable. Would not go back too many great restaurants in New York to return."

"I realize that this is a restaurant in the theatre district, and they want to get you in and out and turn the tables over, but the amount of rushing they do in this restaurant is unbelievable! From the minute you sit down they are asking if you are ready to order. There were 3 different guys asking if you were ready to order at approximately 2 minute intervals! It was terrible. Then, even though you are still eating, and the fork is in your hand, the same guys are asking if you are finished, if you want dessert and they bring you the check before you ask for it, without any offer to see if you wanted anything else. I would not recommend this restaurant."
