"This place has one of the best brunches (excluding buffets) in the city. The presentation of the food is wonderful and there's a twist to typical fare like tiger prawn benedicts and belgian waffles with bacon bits. The kitchen can be a bit slow when it's busy, but the food is well worth the wait."

"The food was fabulous but it took a long time to be served. Further, when dinner came, what had been promised on the menu was changed. The serving staff had not been advised of the change by the chef. We were offered another entrée but chose to stay with what we had since we were concerned as to how long we would then need to wait again. The wait staff was very good and the reason that we rayed the service as "good" rather than "excellent" was because of the two problems encountered with the kitchen."

"Hubby and I tried The Makk for the first time, and overall had a really nice time. The room is nice, servers were friendly. We would have loved a 1/2 liter option for wine but the cocktail menu was great. The menu however is brief. Appetizer selection isn't bad, but the entrée options were a bit disappointing. Certain things just seemed a little off. Lamb shanks only offered at well done? Prawn/Scallop entrée served with dry barley pilaf? Risotto & pasta dishes both without any real protein? Don't get me wrong - we both had a wonderful meal with the risotto (adding prawns for me, chicken for him), but there was no 2nd option we would come running back for. We'll be back when a new menu is out, which I understand happens every so often."

"The wine selections are on the pricey side and the appetizers are small given the cost. The mains while decent sized did not impress especially the Arctic char which was swimming in a bowl of white rice with a tasteless coconut sauce. It took a while to get our plates cleared and it's difficult to talk over the noisy crowd. The beef appetizer was the highlight, but not sure if it's enough to warrant a second visit."

"My wife and I were very impressed by the high quality, taste, and execution of the food. Our tortellini trio appetizer was excellent, my beef tenderloin was cooked to perfection and the flavor was outstanding. The flour-less chocolate cake and sorbet for dessert were both delicious as well.
We were impressed by the bright yet comfortable decor and ambiance as well. The staff are friendly, courteous, and do no give airs or attitude. A very comfortable place to go and have high end food served professionally but without attitude. I really want to try the scallops next time as they looked fantastic going by our table.
I highly recommend a try!"

"Been meaning to try The Makk for a while & finally got there. Wasn't disappointed - especially since we had just been to a restaurant downtown that had come highly-recommended and turned out to be one of the worst meals we've had in #yeg.
At The Makk, the appetizers, mains and desserts were all delicious and full of flavour, we had a nice bottle of wine, and the service was friendly - we will definitely go back & will defnitely recommend. Nice to also know they are open late!"

"We waited 45 minutes before we got our salad and another 30minutes before we got our main course . When they brought our main course they had not cleared our salad plates and they didn't bring our cutlery. Very bad"

"I've been there three times in the last month. Once for late-night snacks and wine, and twice for lunch. The food is really good. The late-night snacks were especially economical. The dishes have all been good. Tartlet, satay, salads have all been great. The gado-gado was ok. Not the same as I've had before. The service is good, and not too pretentious."

"Started with the tomatoe salad with Brie in puff pastry, had to look hard to find the Brie...we had to ask for bread, it wasn't offered. Main course came and my husbands halibut was off so he sent it back, our server brought him a salad to have while he waited which was great. My main, the char was very good , had to ask if we could havevcoffee and a dessert menu And the food took too long getting to the table. Both the appetizers and the mains, didn't have any dessert , nothing seemed worth it Like the decor very much and the food was plated nicely"

"Dinner for six. One table of three and a table of two. You would think service would be spot on but, 40 min for apps, another hour later for the mains to arrive, another 20 mins for desert. Food was excellent service was sooooo slow. The server was doing his best but lacked the multi tasking skills required to run the show by himself. Tables suffered long bouts of inattention. Not enough attention to the customers and their needs. I understand good fresh food takes time but the server needs to fill the voids and ensure customers have what they until their food arrives."

"I ordered the Makk and Cheese and was disappointed. No seasoning used in that the only taste was the two cheeses. Pasta itself was very boring tasting. Service was ok. My waitress disappeared for long periods of time. It took much longer than expected for a dinner of one."

"Super delicious Mothers Day brunch! We had fritattas, pork tenderloin benedict and beef benedict. Coffee was good and the complimentary chocolate mousse was to die for! We were greeted at the door and made to feel welcome. Decor is warm and trendy. Music was a good mixture and upbeat. Service was attentive. We can't wait to come back for dinner"

"Our group of eight visited the Makk on Mother's Day. The Makk is a pleasant surprise. The location is handy. The staff were friendly and solicitous. The Mother's Day menu was "egg-heavy" with little variety for those not fond of eggs. The food was served HOT! Yay! I shared my extremely large frittata with others. The music was louder than necessary for a Sunday brunch! It made it very difficult to hear conversation from one end of the table to the other. Overall, I will return to the Makk for a regular dinner and try some of the delicious-looking menu items. Thank you to the Makk staff for a mostly pleasant dining experience!"

"We had mothers day brunch at Makk, so not a fair sampling of the regular menu, but the food was excellent. I saw a few items on the lunch menu i would want to go back and try. They had tenderloin or prawn benedict and their chef knows how to make a hollandaise! It definitely would have been nice to have some potatoes or vegetables on the side, especially at the price.
I found the restaurant very loud, its a small place.
The teapots are almost impossible to pour without spilling water everywhere, but fortunately the water wasn't all that hot. My tea never steeped properly and even when i asked for really hot water it barely steamed, after brunch i had a cappuccino which was watery, clearly their espresso machine is not well calibrated."

"Average dinner. We have been to The Makk several times in the past and have always enjoyed the experience. This time, it was average at best. Service was uneven and the food took a long to,e to come out. To top it off, the food was Luke warm at best"

"This was my second time dining at "The Makk" and I would have to say it was much less enjoyable than the last experience. The waitress was very obviously new to the industry and it showed. For a small restaurant it took an unusually long time to receive our food (over an hour), my drink went empty several times and was left waiting for a refill, wasn't offered fresh cracked pepper for our meals as I was on the previous visit, and the waitress was just awkward to deal with in general.
I ordered the duo of alberta beef and requested that it be cooked rare. When I received my meal after a looooong wait, the tenderloin was more in the area of medium. The food was delicious though! They have a nice atmosphere and a very nice menu"

"Definitely exceeded my expectations. You could tell the food is thoughtfully prepared and well presented. I had the lobster salad to start, and this might be one of the best salads I have ever had. I had the mac and cheese which was rich, warm, and filling. My wife had the pad thai, and having just returned from a trip to Thialand, I'd say this was a very well done pad thai by North American standards. Flour-less chocolate for desert and it was exceptional. Great service. Overall great experience."

"April 7/13 We eat out often, have enjoyed many a meal in many countries and know that good food is sometimes just a matter of opinion.Thats why we where pretty disappointed in regards to some simple culinary basics in regards to preparation. My wife had the lobster and avocado salad, the little lobster tail placed on top was so rubbery it was almost like eating beaf jerky .On a good note,I had the mango chilli prawns with basil that actually tasted pretty good, well prepared and presented. For our main course my wife had the prawns and scallops, just ok in taste, I had the smoked duck breast, smoked ? Not ! The fat layer on the breast was barely rendered thus inedible and the meat over done. Not worth the money, nothing special !!"

"We were there for lunch. It was quiet because there was almost no one else there at first, although it filled up a bit. Food was good enough that I will definitely be back, and prices were reasonable. The only drawback to this restaurant that I could see is a serious lack of parking."

"The food here was excellent. Perfectly prepared beef and the whipped potatoes were amazing. On the other side of the table the scallops and shrimp were also a hit. But that fork crossing the table to share the beef dish was evidence of how good that was.
Our server was friendly and helpful and made sure our dining experience was enjoyable. Just the right amount of attention without interruption of our conversation."

"My wife and I checked out the Makk on 124 based on word of mouth reputation. We weren't disappointed. From beginning to end, the service and food were wonderful. I especially appreciated the creativity that went into each of the dishes. Flavor, plating, amount were all spot on!
We will definitely be back, and Makk is just one of a number of fantastic small restaurants that are opening in Edmonton. So long big chain restaurants. Can't say I'll miss you!"

"The young man serving us was very friendly and knowledgeable. The place looks well put together and I would recommend it to others. The satay chicken bowl was delicious but I expected more from the Truffled Mac n Cheese (the top was burnt). We also hit happy hour and were happy to have wine by the glass at 50% off!"

"I went to The Makk for a Sunday book club meeting and didn't realize they don't serve lunch on Sundays. There were two vegans at our table but no vegan brunch options unfortunately. Their lunch menu looks great. Hoping to try again another day. I had the pancakes, they were very filling and tasty but did not come with much fruit or potatoes. I would recommend one less pancake and something on the side. No one at our table was able to finish them. The various options including eggs looked delicious and had good reviews from our table."

"By far the worst place that we've tried this year! We had a party of 7, so of course there was a gratuity of 18% put on our bill already, because this was already added on the waitress ignored our entire table the whole night. Couldn't even get refills on any kind of drink. When it came time to order desserts she only took 2 orders while the rest of the table waited for her to come back, which took another half hour for her to bring 2 scoops of ice cream. The food was bland and boring, the only good thing about the food was the size of the serving on the main course. The appetizer and dessert portions were made for a child under the age of 6. Definitely will not be going back or recommending to any friends."
