"This was my second visit to 51 Lincoln, the first one being a couple of years ago. The restaurant happens to be within walking distance of my friend's house in Newton Highlands, yet she had never been there. She was favorably impressed with the facilities, bar, food and service. There was just one glitch. My friend ordered the sirloin. The server said it would be 25 minutes for the steak. 40 minutes later we still had not been served our main courses and we had to flag down the server who told us it would be another five minutes. The food was good when it appeared (scallops and mahi mahi as well as the sirloin), but we felt rushed because we were going to a concert and had made a reservation which should have given us plenty of time."

"It was a fun diner. The cheeses are totally overpriced but still delicious.
Room was a bit noisy but it was a game night so the bar on the side surely Didn t help.
Overall a nice restaurant.

"This is aneighborhood restaturant for us. The food and service are consistently good. The noise level can be quite high, which can negatively impact conversation. The cocktails change, and this time they seemed a bit too precious for us, so we had wine instead. We will continue to come regularly."

"Our party of four booked a 7:30 table for a Saturday evening. We arrived a few minutes early and were shown immediately to our table. Our waiter Eddie was informed, efficient, and very pleasant. We were all pleased with our appetizers and main courses: a fish special, duck, and scallops. Even though waitstaff was very busy, they delivered the drinks and food at an appropriate place. One small complaint: the dessert menu seemed limited but the two we chose were fine. This restaurant delivers a totally satisfying experience. Noise level is a bit "energetic," but manageable. Obviously there are more expensive and more elegant restaurants, but 51 Lincoln has the right relationship between price and quality of food and service."

"I like 51 Lincoln very much and dine there a few times a year. They were introducing a new menu which I thought was rather limited in terms of avoiding beef and fat. (Deep fried chicken and no brick-cooked choice?) I had the duck entree a couple of months ago and it was the only thing on the menu that appealed the other night although it was prepared differently with the skin/fat, etc. I had to eat around the skin which wasn't even tasty. The vegetable choice with it was choy which I personally dislike but ate it for the sake of a green vegetable. The polenta fries were--as usual--wonderful and the dessert lava cake with sweet/salty etc. was absolutely divine. And I am not a dessert or chocolate lover. I'll be back when the menu changes."

"This was our second time dining at 51 Lincoln and we weren't as impressed as the first time. Needless to say, we will not be back.
Our server was nice, but she wasn't very personable and she seemed to disappear for moments of time when we needed her. The food was okay, but not as good as it was the first time we went and for the price, I expect consistency. I had the chicken dish which was paired with chorizo and bread. It was actually a very odd combination once I started eating it. The dish had not flow, rhyme or reason.
If you want a good meal and ambiance I'd recommend Il Capricio and La Campania, both in Waltham, but worth the drive and price."

"I have always had a consistently good meal at 51 Lincoln but was a little nervous this time since 4 people I work with had all eaten "just OK" meals there just a few weeks before. However, as usual our meals were excellent and our server, who had just finished her training and was waiting tables her first night on her own, was excellent! The place was packed so I assume others still enjoy 51 Lincoln as well. Recommend."

"The menu is rather limited but every option is delicious the noise level can be a bit loud as well This visit we had several salads Caesar with delicious white anchovies and simple salad which was large enough to share. The charcuterie is great with house cured meats and cheese from wasiks. The homemade pasta special with fiddleheads and wild mushrooms was great although I would like to have seen some more variety of fungus not just Crimini

"51 Lincoln is one of my neighborhood faves. The choices are fresh and tasty ... not over-sauced. This time had the "chicken under a brick" ... ummm, fantastic. Had teh accompanying polenta fries which were also excellent.
They make a great martini ... make reservations well in advance!"

"This is definitely a place to revisit, you can tell by the seasonally adjusted menu they love what they do.
Don't miss the house made Charcuterie plate

"Every May, the season of the soft shell crab, 51 Lincoln's chef has a different soft shell crab special everyday. The preparations are novel and interesting. The regular menu and other specials are also available, but it's worth the trip for the crabs. Their web site tells you what they are doing with the crabs each day.

"My wife and I really enojoyed the first dinner we had here. The menu was exciting (lots of Middle Eastern influence and unique spices), and the waiter was very engaged, and obviously very knowledgeable. The second dinner we had there was very good, but not up to the same level (maybe because of what we chose from the menu). This time, however, we felt the food was quite ordinary, and also had some real flaws (over seasoning of some items and under seasoning of others being one of them). Also, the waiter was not engaged or as knowledgeable about the menu as on previous visits. I did not feel I was getting what I paid for on this visit, and will be less likely to return, although I would probably be willling to give it another shot."

"We went to 51 Lincoln for a Wed night birthday dinner - we were intrigued by soft shell crabs prepared in interesting ways in the month of May. The food was great - everything from salads to entrees to sides to desserts were terrific. Our server was great too. However, the restaurant was extremely noisy making conversation nearly impossible. Those in the restaurant that were trying to converse resorted to screaming to be heard which exacerbated the noise level. All in all it made for a very unpleasant ambiance. We had hoped for something quieter and more intimate. Although the food and service were wonderful, we both decided that we would much prefer to have dinner at a restaurant where we can converse without having to scream to be heard."

"Walking in, 51 Lincoln was noisy and crowded. We were escorted to the downstairs room, 4 tables only, very quiet and lovely. Service initially seemed a bit slow but rectified itself. A lovely evening with exquisite food. Particularly liked the Hake and the Poblano Chili soup."

"Excellent service. We had bad seat near window with table too high cushions too low. Filet of beef overpriced and, though grass fed, very tough. Flan was so tiny it looked like a yolk in a giant eggwhite plate. Cappucino very good, nice house cocktail creations. Very few options made from scratch as custom orders with no garlic were few. Good bar crowd. Apps good. Corn bread Ok though other bread at best, average. Most entrees were liked I'd give it 3.70 stars."

"Went there for their May soft shell crab special. The night we were there they were serving deep fried crabs with Thai peanut noodles and a poached egg. Both crabs and noodles were very good, but I never could figure out why there was a poached egg included. It just didn't seem to fit."

"Based on the online menu descriptions and prices, I was expecting a very different experience from the one I had. The place was quite noisy even when there were some open tables. The service was adequate but nothing more than that. The wine captain raved about a St. Emilion; it was a different vintage from what the wine list said, and it was mediocre. The food was unremarkable; not creative or innovative.
The bar had a large TV screen on a sports channel. I was in the restaurant area, but I could see it far too clearly. From what I could see, no one in the bar was watching it.
I was not put off by the online prices. I was put off by what I got for them."

"My third trip and it was still fabulous. This place has the local neighborhood vibe, but with super high end food. I love the combination of casual setting with an outstanding kitchen; it is just what I would want to open if I had my own restaurant. The Perfect Green Salad is just that - perfect. We actually would have been satisfied with the sweet cream butter (which appears to be mixed with honey and sea salt crystals), slathered on the bread and topped with their tomato jam. But adding the duck entree, and a huge bowl of Chef's Rigatoni Bolognese, and it does not get much better. I had a special evening out with my 13 year old son, and it was just wonderful, especially since he is a real food lover. Highly recommended."

"We were very disappointed in the food. The portions were very small. the papardella dish with Pesto was overcooked so that the dish was almost a paste. We mentioned this to our waitor, who said that he would mention this to the kitchen. My guess that this was a perfuntory efforts and we heard nothing. Can not reccomend this and certainly will not go back."
