"Pasteur has been closed for years. I had dined there before and had a good experience. So, I was pleasantly surprised with the re-opening. The menu is great, with lots of new features and a variety of selections. The new look of the space and the outdoor patio are quite inviting. There is a new energy and feel that charges the space now. I plan to return."

"Food was excellent! Hands down best steak I've had and everything was cooked perfectly. Service was good, but not outstanding. Ambiance was good only cause we were in a private room upstairs. Creative dessert dishes and bartender was great. All in all a pretty great place. My girlfriend and I were very satisfied:-)"

"Having reopend a year ago after being closed for 5 years Pasteur has been completely redsigned and truly combines elegance with a relaxed and inviting atmosphere. Morgan was our waiter, He was extremely knowledgable about the menu and had some great recommendations for us. The Duck Wonton soup was a winner along with Crispy Tofu Dish and the Pineapple Calamari. The banana bread pudding was outstanding some of the best I have ever had. Street parking is easy. The new outdoor patio in back will be great when the weather is warm."

"There were four of us, three too busy talking while the fourth did all the ordering. We did all vegetarian - 3 appetizers and 3 entres. One of the entres included tofu in a clay pot, but not having ordered I am not familiar with the names of what we got. But all agreed enthusiastically with all six choices and especially with the sauces which accompanied the appetizers. And the enjoyment of all six dishes was thoroughly enhanced by our wait person who was completely attentive without being intrusive. It was a wonderful evening of food, friends, service and atmosphere. We'll be back."

"The room was lovely and the food was good but the service was very poor. We waited quite some time for someone to come to the table to take our drink order. The appetizers arrived on a timely basis but then we waited and waited for the entrees. One person ordered the soup that was mentioned in the history of the restaurant on the menu and instead of coming before the entree it was served with it. We also had to follow up several times on a second drink order that seemed to have gone missing. Hopefully it was just an off night for the restaurant."

"Went to Pasteur on a Sunday night during winter, street parking was plentiful, and the restaurant was not too crowded at 8 pm. The server was excellent- thoughtful and provided excellent suggestions from the wine list and menu. The food was fresh and portions appropriate. For two people we had two apps, two small plates of entrees and a full entree and we took a small portion off that home.Additionally, we had a scoop of green tea and vanilla ice cream with caramel sauce.
the server was gracious and answered a lot of our questions about the interior, as well add the back patio. I'd definitely come back with a bigger group in the summer to enjoy the outside dining."

The service was non existant as we sat at our tabernacle staring at or menus for over 20 mins without any service froth wait staff.I brought this up with the hostess after which she talked to someone that was supposed to be or waistaff and then we waited further before walking out. The water was delicious as that's all we had the entire night there."

"I am sure it is not as chaotic there all the time, but when we went for Valentine's Day it was a disaster. The kitchen was behind, orders were all incorrect, and our server was often no where to be found. Disappointing service all around. Specifically we enjoyed the Saigon crepes (best we have had even when compared to our eating experience in saigon itself), special fish presentation and the claypot dishes were unique and very satisfying. The ambience is welcoming and elegant. Great restaurant for a small or larger group as outdoor and additional room space would make a great location for a small party. We will be back to try the other delights the menu has to offer."

"We enjoyed the appetizers, desserts and soups most of all for the value. The entrées seemed a tad expensive for the quantity of food served.
The Nem (ground chicken cooked on sugarcane stalks) was good but too small, the shrimp and crab tempura was a big flattened shrimp with crab, then battered and fried. Our favorite were the Saigon crepe and the lemongrass beef rolls.
Soups are a great value.
The Bo Luc Lac was perfectly cooked beef marinated, grilled and served with a red wine butter sauce. The caramel glazes calamari were not too sweet. The curried beef was tender with a balanced flavor.
Their green tea ice cream was very creamy and no barnyard flavor. Fried bananas were delicious. Bread pudding tasted great - but a bit rub"

"We've been there 4 or 5 times, we keep going back because it's so wonderful. Everything about the place, I love, location, access, parking all good, the place is beautiful but the food is really outstanding. They have a cool Martini list, great wines, did I mention the food is outstanding. Don't let another week go by without paying this place a visit. You will not be dissappointed."

"So wonderful to see Pasteur open again! I always loved their food and was not disappointed. Service was a little slow but it was Valentine's night and they were packed. I did not go for romance as I was in town on vacation with a friend, but I could easily see bringing my husband back for a romantic evening as they have many tables tucked into nice private locations."

After dining many times at Pasteur in the late 90's-early 200's, only to see this family-run Vietnamese eatery close, we were happy to dine there once again.
The food is still good (some dishes, admittedly, better than others)and the service better.
Nick, son of the original and (once again) owners, was our server. A student at UIC, he talked about the former "glory-years" and how the restaurant was on the come-back trail.
They have a 'backyard' patio/bar ready for Chicago's warmer months, even to the extent of (oddly) having to obtain a 2nd liquor license.
We enjoyed our dinner, although I couldn't possibly tell you the names of the dishes sine I don't speak Vietnamese, and look forward to returning once the weather t"

"Fabulous-Outstanding-Exquisite is all I can say for the impeccable service, food & overall experience we had. It is not the kind of place where you will find many kids at dinner tables... however, we wanted kids to accompany for a special occasion so had 2 kids in our party and the staff was very accommodating and kid friendly.
Our waitress (Rosanna) was just a perfect host to guide us through our dine."

"Our waiter Morgan was friendly, helpful and attentive. The food was good, served at a good pace. For appetizers we had spring rolls and a crepe type thing that you can eat in a lettuce wrap. Entrees we all shared included steamed whole fish (perfectly done), tofu and veggies in a coconut sauce (subtly sweet -- not too much, quite delicate, actually) and signature beef (tenderloin beef pieces has been cooked in a teriaki-like sauce was tasty, but I would have preferred it in bigger pieces or as one piece of steak, rather than a bunch of bite size bits). The space is very pretty and it was bustling on Friday night. Was very happy to see that."

"As always, food was fabulous! Service was less than easy and helpful this time (maybe a new waiter??), but the person who brought the food from the kitchen and served it was a great resource to our group! They are in the process of re-doing their wine list, so not all was available, but we managed to find a great choice anyway! This place is consistently very good -- can't go wrong!"

"So glad Pasteur is open again! This was one of my favorites and still is. We tried the nem and Banh Xeo appetizers, both delicious and the cocktails were fabulous! The kumite featuring lychee liquer and the Green Buddha were lovely. Vietnamese style bread pudding with coconut milk was divine."
