Roost
When you settle in, you come home to roost. A roost is a place that feels comfortable. It’s a place where we all have a little something in common. It’s a place that takes a community and builds it into a home. That’s the spirit of ROOST Restaurant located in the new, exciting and vibrant community of NOMA Square on Main Street in downtown Greenville, South Carolina. Situated next to the Hyatt Regency Greenville, ROOST is a casual restaurant featuring the best fresh local bounty that the Piedmont has to offer. Our focus is on giving the community a place to eat local, organic, and seasonal food of the highest quality, cooked with care, and at an honest price. Roost will offer guests a one-of-a-kind dining experience including outdoor seating in NOMA Square, an open kitchen with ringside seating along the Kitchen Counter, an open-air bar area, and a Harvest Table where guests can work with the chef directly to build their own meals.

"I don't think this restaurant's floorplan lends itself to being a buffet brunch sort of place. There are way too many bottlenecks, and the staff are constantly coming and going through the main walkways serving their customers. Unfortunately, the main walkways are where you are standing or crossing to get to the food. It was extremely hectic, but I can understand that as they were ramping up for the mother's day crowd to hit. But, in general, the factors add up to it being a very non-relaxing experience at brunch. I like a more laid back experience at a brunch.
Now, the food was excellent, and I definitely intend to go back and check out their dinner menu, as the layout is more suited to a sit-down meal."

"Roost is a beautiful restaurant with great atmosphere. I have enjoyed lunch and dinner there previously and the food was delicious . Unfortunately, Mother's Day brunch was not good. There was a variety of choices but the food was just not up to Roost regular menu standards. I will go back but not for a buffet."

"We had brunch at Roost on Mothers Day. The inside tables were not full, which was a surprise to me. In fact, we were, at one point, the only diners in our section. Service was okay. It was a buffet, but the server would still disappear for long stretches when a refill of tea was needed. There were omelet menus on the table to fill out and give to the server, but this was never explained to us and we discovered it by accident. The drink set up was a little weird - we had to go to the bar to get a mimosa instead of the server bringing it. The food was excellent, and there was a good variety. I would like to eat there again and sit outside."

"wonderful venue for special occasions. Recently celebrated Mother's Day there. Nice brunch set up. Food was great and selections were plentiful. Nice omelet station. Eat outside, weather permitting. Inside was loud. Would dine there again, but really a special occcasion or cocktails only place -- as far as I am concerned."

"Went for Mother's day brunch and was expecting a lot more -- especially since they charged more per person than other high end downtown restaurants. Some of the hot food s were actually cold, the prime rib was tough and the dessert selection was very weak. Service was very good and great atmosphere -- just wished the food quality matched!"

"The food was of a caliber that you could find a anywhere. Most of the food was dried out from sitting out so long. Outside dining was joined with the inside via open doors. The wind was blowing so much through the inside do jng area that your food was cold before you got from the buffet to your seat. The wait staff was equalled by anywhere else as well. Nothing wrong with the staff, but again, they just brought our drinks. The surprise came when the bill came. 32.00 per person and they automatically added 21% for gratuity. Brunch for three was 125.00! NOT worth it."

"Atmosphere and service was perfect- each Mom got a long stemmed rose. The buffet was good, prime rib, roast chicken, boiled shrimp were the meat offerings and made to order lets.
Although I love Roost, this was my least favorite brunch buffet. At $32 pp, it was just good, not great.

"Loved the oxymoronic atmosphere - New York-style sophistication with a rustic, wholesome charm. The food was great, and everything tasted fresh. "I don't think there is a restaurant downtown that can match the decor and atmosphere. The new spring menu is wonderful and our server was very attentive and personable. Some of my favorites are the Flounder BLT, Cobb Salad, Chicken Chili and the Lobster Flat Bread. They also have a great happy hour-7 days a week!"

"I was very impressed, I did not know what to expect when I made these reservations. I thought the restaurant was wonderful, the decor was awesome and I really liked how the tables were spaced apart. The bar area was nice however, it was very cramped and the bartender had a hard-time reaching around things to serve drinks. The food was great, we had the mussels and clams to start, they were awesome. We also ordered the Fungi pizza, there was nothing to special about it, it was way to cheesy. We were sad to hear that the market steak was sold out at 8:00pm, to bad. I really enjoyed the open kitchen and being able to see inside of the custom wine refrigerators, the ambiance was very elegant and modern. I will definitely return again soon."

"Even though the restaurant is in the Hyatt, one had to walk through the restaurant to get to the hostess table. Wait staff was very slow, inattentive, and did not seem interested. There were a lot of wait staff walking back and forth, yet orders were slow to be taken and water glasses were empty. Never given a wine or drink list. They also did not seem knowledgeable or excited about the menu. Menu very limited. My husband had to get up and ask the chef about the cut of beef (there was only 1 beef option, if you don't want a burger)as the waitress didn't seem sure since she didn't eat beef. The cobblestone chicken was poorly seasoned and dry. For a party of 4 we were given 2 dessert menus. The cheesecake was marginal at best"

"We were impressed with the overall decor of the newly renovated restaurant. Ambiance was great. We were very disappointed with the lack of variety on the menu. "I enjoyed The Roost. I am a fan of sustainable, local foods and prefer humanely raised meat (but unlike my wife it is not a requirement.) And, so the Roost offers another option for those with these values. To start, the Manhattan with pecan bitters was interesting. My wife had a cocktail made with lavender and basil that was fantastic. Great beer list. The food was good, not great, although the lobster flatbread was tasty. I had the pork chop and greens as my entree. My pork chop was satisfying and nicely prepared (but the booze baked beans reminded me of Van Camp). In all it was good, but for the price, I expect something bordering on great. We will return, but probably not soon."

"Roost is urban, chic, yet warm and inviting. The server was knowledgeable, helpful, and attentive. The food was a disappointment. The rolls were dry and tasteless and smacked of freezer to table, not prepared from scratch and fresh-baked. The flatbreads were served only warm, and each was bland-tasting though the described ingredients should have produced flavorful treats. Roost has been open long enough to improve upon it "hotel food" reputation, but so far, it continues to serve below-average food."

"Overall the atmosphere and food were amazing. So many awesome choices to choose from. The only complaint was the food took an extremely long time to come out. Salads took 30 minutes to hit the table after ordering. Also we could never find our waitress to order more drinks , grab the checks etc. I will go back but only if I have nothing to do after and want to linger over dinner with friends."

"I thought breakfast was not all that great for the price. My pancakes were described on menu "with" Bananas and Candied Walnuts.....one I waited like 5 minutes for my entree after rest of my table was served....2. the banana were cooked "in" the pancakes and I did not like the texture....3. no walnuts in sight 4. nothing else came with for $16 5. had to ask for coffee refill and cream like twice
I will try again for lunch or drinks because I do think the ambiance/location is very good but I am still up in the air on food value and service"

"This was my second Sunday brunch at Roost. My first visit was with neighbors. Second time was with out of town guests. They loved it. One of my guests said his omelet was the best he'd ever had. "Roost is our new spot to bring any friends visiting us in Greenville from the Northeast. It has southern charm in their dishes, and more importantly, a phenomenal choice of local produce and fare with their amazing Farm to Table concept. I would be amiss to not also mention they have an incredible wine and beer selection. But to really experience a great dish, I would stick to one of their cocktails, and showcase the amazing offerings from fields and farms nearby, and how truly great they can be when in the hands of well trained chefs."

"Hostess was rude bc we were late for reservation yet the restaurant was fairly empty until very late in my dining experience. Ambiance was nice but food was bland flavorless . They will have to step up the food quality to match their location and improve the service. Nothing worse than a rude hostess to start off your evening and our waitress disappeared for long periods of time. We suspected she was out back taking a smoke."

"I love Roost! I'm a local foodie and this is one of the few places in town that cooks better than I do so it's a nice place to go before the theater or to take people who are visiting Greenville for the first time. The service is great! I've never had to wait very long for food, and eating at Roost has never made me late for an event later in the evening! I love that there is something new on the menu every time I eat at Roost!"

"We enjoyed our first visit to Roost in the North Main Street area of downtown Greenville. The blue crab beignets were fantastic, and my favorite dish of our lunch. "The service levels were GREAT! The appetizers were delicious and the drinks were really good. The entrees weren't good at all. I ordered a brisket and it was over cooked and rubbery. The server came back and offered me something else so I got the pork chop (which was going to be my choice originally but I decided to try the brisket) and it was over cooked and tough. Very difficult to chew and had no seasoning on it. The sides were delicious."

"Three of us rated the food as average. It took forever to get the specially-made omelet for my friend; I didn't ask if it was hot. The salad bar looked good, although I didn't try it. The dessert station was sorely lacking -- two cakes and one cookie. There was a shrimp dish, which I presume should have been hot; however, it was cold. Even at that, it was not tasty. There was also something in a stew pot that we had to ask what it was -- some sort of chili. None of us wanted to try it ... After being seated, which happened quickly, it took about 5 minutes before our waitress came over; even then, I had to flag her down. She was very pleasant and obviously not new to her job; however, she frequently forgot drink refill orders."

"Had so much fun and the food was great. We had a reservation, but weren't seated for almost an hour after. We didn't mind too much though because we were having fun at the bar. I just kept worrying that they forgot us! I had a lot of fun there and I know sometimes new restaurants have little kinks that need to be worked out, so I will definitely be back."

"Roost was a great change from our usual large Easter Buffet that we attend at the Embassy Suites. Dishes ranged from the expected to the un-expected. The selection of foods was quite good. Some of the flavors such as Anise should be a real treat. Wait Staff did a great job and the Mimosa/BloodyMary bar was a great addition. The Buffet was spread out in different sections but was easy to navigate after the first trip.

"Average to poor experience. Crowded buffet lines, not well maintained/cleaned, especially dessert areas. Beef from carving station was so tough/chewy it was inedible. The distribution of the serving stations was hodge-podge and had no flow or reason to it; hard to find the food selections that were available and with the large number of people, movement to/from the stations was very difficult and not worth the effort to try other things. We ordered sweet tea and were served unsweet. There were five of us and only four silverware services at the table; took awhile to get someone's attention to get another set of silverware. At $30/per person we expected a bit more from the experience. May go back when it isn't Easter and try again."

"Service was really slow. The food was not great 2 of the 4 were not happy. The place is really nice inside. It was a bit warm in the back however. The table next to us had food issues as well. Need better service, a new menu with flavor and more wait staff. SLOW SLOW. They also charged me $1.00 extra for more chips for a fondue. We had 4 people and they gave chips for 2 people. Strange to be charged $1.00 and not told. WOW!!"

"The entree food and portion size was great, but you do have to order sides separate - menu selection is limited to one page so hopefully this will grow with time - Had the hot brie chili fondu appetizer, and while it was good, it was not great. Had the pork shank bucco, which was very good, however had I not asked the waiter about the sides for this dish, I woud have been dissapointed as it only comes with baked apples, so I added the smoked bacon and potato gratin - perfect! My wife had the "special" flounder which we found out to be $24 which topped out over my entree and added side item. She enjoyed the meal.
Want to visit the Roost again as the atmosphere was hip but prefer to wait until the menu has gained some more variety."

"The server was very nice and friendly. Immediately started by asking what we would like to drink. We were with a group so I think we just needed time to review the drink menu and settle in. We're expecting a few others to arrive as well. The food menus were plentiful however the beer menus and signature cocktails menus were limited so we had to share and wait on others to view it. This slowed ordering down.
When it came to ordering a second round of drinks, service was slow. Two of our guests actually decided to go to the bar to get theirs and service was faster. For ordering food, we had to approach the server letting him know we were all ready. I think if we didn't tell him, we would have been waiting another half hour."

"I went to Roost expecting better. The design of the restaurant is outstanding, with an open kitchen and a variety of seating options. We ordered the "Chicken Coop" from the Brunch Menu (eggs, bacon, potatoes, and cheese all rolled up in a giant burrito and covered with sausage gravy). It was definitely big enough to split (as was indicated on the menu), but very bland. Some herbs and spices would have helped."

"The items we ordered -- the pork knuckle and the filet were delicious, but we found the menu somewhat limited--short on different selections. I would have loved duck confit, nut not on flatbread. The dessert menu primarily lacked imagination, the the one exception -- the chocolate mousse dish, with a Mud moniker reminding us that it is farm to table restaurant -- still needs some refinement. Someday might be fit for foodies, but not quite yet."
