Deep dish is as authentically Chicago as Lake Shore Drive traffic, but in the past few years, Neapolitan-style pizza has given it a run for its money. A big reason for its popularity is the pies at Spacca Napoli, a Ravenswood restaurant that opened in 2006 with pies by Nella Grassano, a Naples native who started baking in her family's pizzeria when she was just 12 years old.
After leaving Spacca Napoli in 2007, Grassano reappeared briefly at Nella Pizzeria Napoletana before that restaurant closed. Now, Grassano is back (hopefully for good this time) at her own Lincoln Park restaurant, Pizzeria da Nella Cucina Napoletana.
"The service and pizza are outstanding. The restaurant is a little too loud for my taste, our party of 4 had a hard time hearing each other. The waiter was very knowledgeable of the menu and very fun to deal with. Our pizzas were outstanding, as always. However, my penne pasta was totally overcooked and pretty much fell apart. I would prefer an al dente pasta. This restaurant is turning out to be one of our favorites, we might go later in the evening when there are less children and the noise level might be lower. Can't wait to try out the outdoor seating also."

"Good Neapolitan-style pizza--Margherita with half sausage was better in terms of crust consistency than vegetarian red pizza we had last time; although I loved the taste of it, the center was too soggy. Delicious pear and gorgonzola salad. Very kid-friendly."

"Having tried her pizza at her previous place, we had high expectations, and we were not disappointed. This remains an excellent Neapolitan pizza. The variety of toppings like tuna and shrimp gives it an extra dimension of Italian authenticity. In addition, the pastas are a real surprise with great flavors and textures. The eggplant appetizer is also a winner. So much so that we can't decide what to have when we come."

"Arugula and Parmesan salad is THE BEST! Simple but very yummy. The pizzas are thin and tasty as well. We had the white pizza special, which the waiter told me I would "LOVE" and it just didn't have the flavor I was expecting, so I went with the spicy salami and red pepper and it was AMAZING. The spicy oil spread and bread is amazing too."

"Real Italian pizza - finally! I'm Italian, moved to the States 4 years ago and have found only two great, authentic Italian pizzerias in Chicago, and one of them is Da Nella! Brava Nella! Ci rivedremo presto!"

"I enjoyed my lunch but was not blown away by the pizza. I wish the Margherita were less runny. It was strangely empty for a Sunday lunch. But I know it is hoppin' on warm weekends."

"On par with the more ballyhooed Spaca Di Napoli. Pizza, pasta and salad was very good. Value for the money was ok. The place is loud and attracts families with small kids."

"Gotta say that we've been to Italy a few times and have eaten pizza there in many areas, and Da Nella nails it! The salads, the pizza, the vino - all true to it's Italian roots. This was way cheaper than flying 9 hours to experience the same thing! Go and enjoy a little Italia!"

"I was hoping this pizza would live up to the hype, and replace the much missed Ciao Napoli. While the crust was very good, the rest of the ingredients didn't seem the best quality, but perhaps that's just the execution. The food is fine, mostly passable, but in this city where I've had much better pizza, pasta and salads, I can't rate them too highly. The service was ok, not great; if you don't want a hightop, make sure to request a table. It's family friendly, therefore noisy at times; decor, music, etc. isn't that good."
