"Awesome experience, the food wait was a little long, but the chefs were able to accommodate our special dietary restrictions (no onion and garlic). Would definitely go again."

"Packed because of NY Times review, and well deserved. Food was very tasty and more complex, subtle and nuanced than the usual 6th Street fare. We will go back."

"dysfunctional hostess who ran us through the maze of the restaurant and then back again after noticing there was no table and then just generally wasn't prepared, random service with a looooong wait for the appetizers and eventually the main course (though our waiter was very attentive), but the food was really very tasty."

"wonderful wonderful dishes !! we were 5 for dinner and tried 1 dish from each category...very clean tastes denoting fresh ingredients, not too dry nor too saucy. teeny restaurant tastefully decorated. northern indian dishes that we didn't know were pleasant surprises and happy to find a good goat / lamb selection. only negative was that we had several communication issues with staff (language ?) but very personable and eager to help. reservations a must."

"I liked the place. The diners' reviews that I had read said that it was so much better than the other restaurants on 6th St. -- well, that wouldn't take much. But I did think the food was very good -- reminiscent of what 6th St. was like decades ago. My husband had the fish curry, which he loved.I had the lamb skewers, which I described to my husband as really good street food. Actually, it meant it as a complement . The only thing that disappointed me was the paneer, which The Times' reviewer raved about. Service was sweet and prompt -- of course, we went at 5:30 because we were afraid of the crowds (after the Times review); I can't vouch for later. I will go back to sample some of the other dishes, but this first trip was promising"

"Found the food to be disappointing. Pappadum slightly greasy, lamb patty appetizer dry, and saag paneer lacking flavor. Malai murgh bharta was very good. Rice was clumpy and not flavorful like I usually find it to be at Indian restaurants. It was clean and modern, but the food just wasn't up to snuff. Oh well."

"Very pleasant surprise. Food was excellent and the kitchen was not afraid of making things quite spicy. Service was fine, although one of us didn't have a proper chair. Otherwise, everything was great. Loved it and will definitely go back!"

"This place had a couple things going for it. First, the food was excellent. Second, the owner seemed like a sweet man who was working his tail off. Unfortunately, the place was understaffed. We arrived with reservations and waited a half an hour before we were seated. The entrance area was super narrow, so there was nowhere to comfortably await a table. It was basically like being pressed against the wall of a hallway. There was no host or hostess, so people just walked in and started squeezing by people at tables trying to find someone to ask about a table. Once we sat, no one came to our table for about 10 minutes. We finally flagged down an obviously overwhelmed server and put in our orders. Great food, terrible service."

"Several notches above over basic Indian spots in this neighborhood. There is a pretty exposed brick wall, nice lighting and a cozy atmosphere. We were there early, so it was quiet, I can't vouch for the later night scene. Every dish we had was well made. I call out the black lentils and excellent onion naan. I thought mango lassi was right balance of tart and sweet, and we all loved the samosa. Everything was very spicy, which makes it not a great kid spot (at least my American kids). But we loved the copper serving pots and the atmosphere."

"Disappinting. Went based on some good reviews on this site. Bland is not a word that comes to mind when describing Indian food. After Malai Marke, it is now! Everything felt diluted and watery. Service was painfully slow as well. Would not return."

"I was searching for the best Indian food in town, but only on the condition that everybody there would be NYU students and and I would go totally deaf from the noise level. And bingo! Malai Marke, in German, I think, means "Stuff food into plump young Asians and sell them hearing aids after dinner". I arrived and couldn't quite tell where the front door was, tried one, was correct, and stepped up to go in, but the step is so high I practically did a Chevy Chase pratfall. Then I looked in and thought I had entered the rear sphincter of an elephant. I was in a long narrow tube, with a kitchen at the end. Nobody at all was there. I walked all the way in, around a bend, and WHOA!!!, NOISE!!! a tiny dining room filled with screeching creatures."

"We had an excellent dining experience. The food is far superior to the other restaurants on Curry Row at 6th Street. The staff could not have been sweeter and more accommodating. The dishes that were typical of Indian restaurants were all a notch higher and then there were several dishes that we had not sampled before, that we loved. They take spicy to a whole new level and those who indulged, were thrilled."

"There's not anything bad I can say, service was top notch, the place looked great! Probably one of the cleanest places I've ever seen, and it's design is just so impressive/ Food was excellent! Didn't wait long for it and the prices are very reasonable. Will definitely go again, perfect Valentines Day date."

"What a great restaurant. Brand-new on East 6th Street, it's a beautifully designed space that is comfortable and appealing. Open view kitchen and front kitchen for groups - food was great! We shared appetizers and mains, along with delicious onion Nan - wine list is simple, affordable. Great service - can't wait to go back!"

"The food was amazing - lived up to the review we had read. And between the five of us we managed to sample a lot of the menu... perfect for couples and groups of four but over that you really do need to call ahead as space is limited."
