"The food ranges from OK to good varying by dish (jerk chicken was quite good, steak and beef burgers were both bland though by no means bad, pulled pork was decent, scallops were good) and considering the choice of other restaurants in the Hinesburg area (or more precisely the lack thereof) this is an easy recommendation.
That said, there is one big caveat: the atmosphere. The restaurant's in a strange almost-steel-prefab sort of building with very high ceilings, and while it look doesn't look great visually because of that the noise level is even worse. It's like being in an echoey warehouse -- at times you can barely hold a conversation. Soundproofing panels on the ceiling, or something, is badly needed."

"our server knew absolutely nothing about the menu or about food in general. my girlfriend's vegetarian option therefore did not have what was expected and fell short. the rice was way overcooked too. as was the brisket. it was unbelievably tough. although grass-fed and tougher by nature, it wasnt cooked low/slow enough or something. could not eat it. no cheese on salad as said on the menu. had been there before and liked it. not good experience at all this time."

"After three visits we had decided that HPH is not worth the money, there are so many other places to go. Brunch on Sunday came out cold, home fires so salty they burned my mouth and it took 20 minutes for coffee to arrive. Management did not seem interested in our satisfaction. HPH seems to be having no trouble attracting customers, they can only hope that this continues."

"We took home a slice o strawberry cheese cake and a slice of their carrot cake. I didn't have the cheese cake but the carrot cake was the best I think I have ever had. The brunch dishes we had were well presented and delicious. This place is worth a try."

"We went for Mother's Day brunch, the table we were sat at gave off the feeling that they were trying to squeeze more people in. The food was excellent, the polenta was the best I have had to date. The downfall; the service. We saw more of other servers than we did of our own. Very inexperienced/ not knowledgeable. I would go again."

"The restaurant has a nice modern, urban meets family friendly feel. Welcoming for couples and families with a positive bar scene.
Good selection of small Vermont brewery beers.

"The food was delicious, the presentation was top shelf, the portions were very reasonable and the staff was very friendly. I ate on the porch which is very nice. They have a new smoker which was evident in the air but not bothersome. It was truly one of the best meals I've had in a long time at a reasonable price. I will definitely be going back!"

"The ambiance of the room is great. The food is OK, but nothing special, especially for the price. It took us 25 minutes to get our drink order taken. Once that happened, the service moved along just fine. It didn't appear there was anyone actually running the restaurant.
My wife had chicken and I had ribs. The chicken was dry and the ribs were really fatty.
We had eaten there before for lunch, had sandwiches. I thought the food did better as pub food than having a more complicated menu."

"Our group of four celebrated my husbands birthday here. We were seated promptly when we arrived and the staff was friendly and competent throughout the evening. The chef even came out for a chat and to ask how we were enjoying our dining experience. The food was excellent; somewhat gourmet without being "over the top"! Everything was perfection and our bill for the evening did not break the bank!"

"We went to the Public House with high hopes, but the experience was disappointing. The service was excellent, but the noise level was so high you could hardly hold a conversation. I can't imagine investing all that money in a new building and not taking into account sound absorbing surfaces. Concrete floor, no carpets, no curtains, and a high ceiling that acts as a megaphone to ricochet all that sound throughout the dining room. The food was only so-so. I ordered fish and chips, but the fries were soggy. The fish was good, but you could hardly call the dish "fish and chips." My husband ordered the chicken pot pie and said that the interior was too runny. We enjoyed ourselves, but we probably won't return."

"I was candidly a little disappointed in my experience and I had heard very positive things about the restaurant.The ambience was not as cozy as I would have preferred and it got quite loud as the dining room filled up.My party was seated at a table by the big bay windows in the back and the sun blinded me for the better part of an hour before falling below the tree line.I was surprised that there were not any blinds or an awning and I can see that area getting very warm in the summer months.The service was attentive and friendly.The food was well prepared(I ordered a burger rare and it came as advertised).I enjoyed the kale and beet salad.I would be willing to try it again but I would not rush back."

"Wow! what a gem in the town of Hinesburg. Everyone is very friendly, pleasant and helpful, the food we had was all exquisite, and I really enjoy the atmosphere: with the gregariousness of a pub, a beautiful view to the Southwest, tables that are spaced properly, and nice old chairs of all kinds that are sturdy, yet have lots of character. I can imagine coming here time and time again. This would be an incredible spot in the summer, as the restaurant is perched up high on the land and overlooks the spire of the church and the town, and you can watch the sunset. There is a happy bustle that is simply a brand new thing for this town."

"We were very disappointed with our trip to HPH. The food was tasteless, poorly presented, and the meals were very bare bones. Veggie burger was mucky on the inside while the outside was dry. Salmon patty had no fixings on it - even a little lettuce and tomato would have been nice. Chicken pot pie was bland and almost devoid of chicken. Meals were very overpriced, especially for portion size and lack of goodies. The pickle that was added to the plate was dry and almost inedible. Dessert presentation was stale and they were out of most of the potential offerings. Service was fine, as we were there when it opened, but as the restaurant got busy, our dessert and check were forgotten."

"Track light blared right into my face. Asked waitstaff if it could be turned down. Staff didn't seem to know what to do. Another staff did come over to ask if it was better, but I said it was not and nothing further was said or done. Despite plenty of room, there was no offer to move us.
Veggie burger and perch were both tasteless; they and quinoa only saved by adequate sauces.
When tea was delivered w/out sugar, I had to get up and find waiter. Then someone came up behind me and slammed the ceramic sugar packet device onto the table under my elbow.
I made res, we were polite and undemanding. No reason for sloppy service which seemed to suggest that customers were lucky to have this place. Live in neighborhood -- won't go ba"

"I had heard mixed reviews, especially about the price. We loved it and found it to be moderately priced - we had 2 couples, each of us had a drink, we shared a bottle of wine, an app and 2 desserts and each had an entree. Our bill was $160.
The food was delicious and it was a wonderful ambiance for hanging with friends. It is in a great location for us. We look forward to enjoying the outdoor seating in the summer."

"The food is much improved since our first visit to Hinesburgh Public House in January. The wait for a table, even though we had reservations, has not improved! Would appreciate an espresso machine and fresher and more varied greens in the house salad, with less dressing. It's a very fun place to take a few friends."

"This is the best new restaurant in Vermont, hands down. Chef is a true pro. Inventive entrees, great wine and beer selection and a bargain for this kind of quality food! Can't wait to go back! Try the poutine and pretzels for apps!

"Four in our group of six ordered the Community supper and though we liked it were not overjoyed by the selection. 5 of us got our meal all at once which was nice but one of us did not get the Salmon for her salad until 15-20 minutes after the rest of us had started eating. The water refil service was exceptional and our waitress was quite pleasant. For a very busy kitchen on a veryl full night at the restaurant I thought it was quite nice."

"Our overall experience was very good. We found the food choices limited as we do not eat beef or pork and we like to see lite options. The salmon was excellent. Rod had the chicken dinner, the chicken had skin and bone, we prefer skinless chicken. The veggie dish was heavy and not an option for us. I was disappointed that the mac and cheese had bacon. I did like the selection of sides dishes, they were reasonably priced, we got a side salad that was wonderful and reasonably price, $3.00. I would recommend, I have, and I would return. I want to check out the bar scene."

"It's great to see a new restaurant dedicated to hyper local food! There were hardly any patrons there during my recent visit for lunch, so it was hard to assess the noise level but it is an interesting interior in an industrial sort of way. I was there on a Sunday, and it would have been nice to see a special with some brunch-y reference - cheese strata, french toast, etc. Granted the menu available online did not indicate that "brunch" would be served. Just my two cents. The pulled pork sandwich and burger we had were good. I would have liked some sort of dressing on the greens that came along side, or an offer of some, perhaps."

"This was our first time visiting the restaurant and the experience was okay. The ambience is very nice, and our waitress was very friendly. The meal took much too long to arrive - well over a half-hour after we ordered. The food was good, but it didn't match the level we expected for the prices. We hope the Public House does well and we will return, but we may try the pub menu next time."

"This was our third time eating at the Public House. Our wait staff person was excellent, very professional and kept us in the loop regarding the arrival of our food. Atmosphere is great, wine affordable, mussels were excellent as were the fish and chips, our salad that night was made with soft croutons of which there were too many but the salad itself was excellent. "Overall The Hinesburg Public House was good. It's still new and therefore still working out some of the kinks. However, I do feel that service could have been better. Refilling water was slow. The quality of the food is good but not great for the price. For $14 mac and cheese, it should have come with a salad. Or something else on the side. Also, a couple of us ordered cheesecake for dessert. Cheesecake should be served cold! Not almost room temp. I would like to try this place again as I do feel they are still working out the kinks any new restaurant has to get out. If I do have another similar experience, I would not go back."
