"The evening started with a complimentary shot of vodka and appetizer brought to our table. We had the smoked fish and appetizer and the herring and potato appetizers. They were outstanding! The friend I was with was hesitant she hadn't tried Russian food before and doesn't venture out side traditional food often. After one bite all her hesitations were gone and so was the food we cleaned our plates! We finished our meals like we started with another shot of vodka. These we choose off their infused vodka menu of over 75 infused vodkas. I highly recommend the Mint and Lime infused vodka the perfect way to end the perfect meal.
This is now one of my favorite spots in Austin!"

"We consider ourselves adventurous eaters, but we're unaware of this restaurant until finding it on Open Table. Who knew you could find authentic, traditional Russian cuisine right in the heart of Austin. Our Russians peaking server gave us great suggestions for our meal, a shot of vodka to kick things off, and was very attentive despite the packed dining room. We sampled the caviar, specialty soups, and an outrageous salad with fried duck and cooked pears over greens. Our entrees were delicious too, all enhanced by the nearly fifty flavors of houses fused vodkas we could choose from! Definitely a gem, and one we'll be back to soon."

"We dined in the back room. It was lovely and interesting at the same time. The light over the buffet table is way too dim. The servers are friendly and helpful. A lovely girl played a (looked like a dulcimer)like a harp and it was a wonderful note to a good meal. We are taking relatives there."

"Awesome place, getting better and better with improved service, food selection and ambience. Busy at night, but private rooms make it perfect if you need quiet time."

"Did not have a good experience at all. Wished we could have gone somewhere else. Was there for a Sunday brunch. Food was mediocre. Service was non-existent. Buffet line was confusing - no beginning or end - customers were confused including me. They were cheap with their servings. Usually at the buffet line, you serve yourself. Well they served you instead but gave small portions. I had to make several requests for more meat etc."

"We had a lot of fun at The Russian House. The infused vodkas were very good and I'd really like to try more flavors (there were about 100 flavors all together). The ambiance made us feel like we were in Russia and they have a lot of fun Russian Clothes at the front of the restaurant to play dress-up with. So that was a lot of fun. However, the food was good and comforting, but not worth the price. My beef stroganoff good, but I don't think it warranted it's $23 price tag. The Golubtsy (stuffed cabbage) was around the same price. If I go again, I will go for drinks and appetizers only as we spent way too much money for food that was just okay. Overall, it's a fun new experience and I don't regret going. The vodkas are great!"

"I have spent a great deal of time in Russia. This was as authentic as it could be in the USA. I very much enjoyed the vodka, caviar, wine, and beef stroganoff. I will visit again during one of my next trips to Austin."

"We had a blast at Russian House. It was our monthly GNOMES meeeting (20+ years of once a month dinners) and it was fun. Most of our food was great with a few things being average or not to someone's taste. The free vodka shots to start the meal, the eclectic menu and the fun waitstaff made it a place I would go back."

"The food was good but not at the quality for the price. It felt and tasted home hooked but didn't wow us. The wait staff was friendly but not professional. Was worth trying Russian food but now that the novelty is over I won't likely go back."

"The food was very good and so was the service. My only complain is that the bar is next to the dining area an the music is absolutely annoying. It is too loud and not appropriate to have a nice dinner. It's like trying to eat in a disco. At the beginning you barely notice it but after a while it can drive you crazy. Anyway, the menu is extensive, everything we had was delicious and the service was great."

"While the food was interesting because of its ethnicity, it was overpriced. Also, though I made my reservation through the Restaurant Week website, that offer was not honored. We saw a couple groups leave because of this."

"This was a quaint well-decorated establishment. The waitress was knowledgable, helpful, and kind. During this vist there was a special seasonal lunch offering. We tried a typical russian sandwich filled with meat on a large home-made bun. Also, we sampled the orange salad, and a rolled beef dish. The salad was crab and salmon with a sour cream dressing served in an orange with red caviar for garnish. It was tasty. The rolled beef had gorgonzola cheese inside, a mushroom sauce over top, and was served with buttered egg noodles. The flavor was good but the meat a bit tough. We also tried a blini with nutella. This was a bit disappointing, since the dessert was served with two of the tiniest dollops of nutella for two crepes."

"Went on a Sunday night. The dining area is charming and reminds me of my great-grandmother's house. Food was abundant, delicious and some courses were served with vodka. My friends whole trout came deboned though it wasn't mentioned or I would have tried it. My stuffed chicken cutlet was very good. Trying infused vodka is fun. Unfortunately, the loud music from their DJ is distracting when the door is opened to allow people in the restaurant part. Without the noise, it would be very romantic. As it is, I'd go back for lunch and hope there isn't music at that time."

"We were there for lunch and the lunch menu that they showed us was different from the lunch menu on the website. It was much more limited. So we asked instead for the dinner menu and ordered from the dinner menu. The food was very good. There were hardly any people there, so it was very quiet (nearly too quiet)."

"The restaurant is getting better and better each time we visit. The menu is expanding, service is improving and guys do a great job with the selection of events. At least half of visitors are non-Russian, which is a great sign. Awesome job on introducing Slavic food to Austin! Check out the store to the left with some goodies to go."

"All in all a great place. Very lively, a lot of fun. The menu is intersting and the food was very good. The service was a little slow and inattentive, but did not lessen our experience. Not a place we would go to weekly, but for the right occassion, we will return."

"A very unique place to visit , very Russian fashion details in the decoration, the dining room very quiet they were so lovely with my 2 years baby boy and super different as just outside of the restaurant is a bar with a dj ... Unfortunately I couldn't stay longer in the bar but I will recommend to any don't carry babies at that time. The manager very nice as well."

"It had a very cool theme as you felt you were going backin time. The service was great and while the food was authentic(I have a very developed palate), I felt as though for Russianfood, I'm sure that while in Russia you can find better qualityfood for what we spent. If someone wanted Russian cuisine, I'd suggest it but for myself, I'll pick a different locale next time."

"We enjoyed our dinner at The Russian House but not the extremely loud music playing out in their bar area. We had the Cheburek appetizer which was hot and tasty. My wife had the Golubtsy which she enjoyed very much. I had the Pelmeni. The pasta did not seem fresh but tasted fine, especially with the sauces served on the side so each bite could be different. The Belgium Chocolate cake was a great dessert. There are many items on the menu we still want to try so we will return soon."

"An interesting place to experience Russian cuisine. Having not been exposed to Russian cuisine before, I didn't really know what to expect. The Pelmeni was very good as was the lamb, but the sides and the rest, not so much to my liking. The experience seemed very authentic, and to those that like Russian cuisine, I am sure this place will be a hit."

"Interesting mix of a typical Sixth Street-type gloomy bar (containing a full-size stuffed bear), behind which is a dining room full of kitsch and lace table cloths that looks straight our of your (Russian) grandmother's house. Menu is narrow, but we sampled several dishes and all were very good in an earthy, home-cooked kind of way. Particularly liked the stuffed vegetables. The infused vodkas look worth trying (we were here for a biz lunch and did not), but the tea is weak and terrible."

"A truly unique and interesting find, combining in front, a dark, hole-in-the-wall dive bar, equipped with a stuffed bear, and Soviet uniforms to wear, with your grandmother's house in back. It is half crazy excitement, especially on Friday and Saturday nights. The food is classic, hearty fare, so much like the food I ate at my best friend Alexander's house that when combined with the decor, I am instantly filled with a sense of comfort, and wistful belonging. The bar, with its' LOUD Russian folk and rock music and FIFTY different infused vodkas (in large jars over the bar ) is a. Exciting way to end your night."

"A fun, if noisy, twist on Austin dining. Loved the vodka selections and browsing the exotic menu. Food was tasty and well prepared, but much less exotic than expected (think mom's cabbage rolls). Decor was well on the right side of kitschy or overly precious. Lots of fun."
